AFL Considering fixture changes which will benefit WA teams in particular.

AFL will do whatever it can to gift more flags to their beloved Eagles. They might as well just come right out and be their major sponsor.
There is no financial incentive for the AFL to help WCE. They are the financial juggernaut of the league. If the AFL ‘could assist’ a new market team or a disenfranchised Victorian team, there would be a significant incentive.

Will there still be quarantine? I don’t see NFL going into hubs.

AFL needs to put the acid on state govts. It’s either quarantin and full houses or the opposite. At the moment we have quarantine AND small crowds.

any state govt not ‘playing ball’, those clubs get relocated for the entire season

NSW never had border restrictions beyond the first month of lockdown and for Viccos after they screwed the pooch with their shambles quarantining.

We have pushed for open borders for months.

Victoria was cleaner than any US state probably, yet the NFL is operation as normal (no crowds though). We didn’t actually have full crowds despite it being talked about a lot

We have had crowds for up to 2 months. Certainly more than a month. I dont follow Rugby so dont know exactly.

Half crowds is still plenty as few Home and Away games are sellouts anyway.

supposedly suppressed? Victoria is trying to play catch up for an entirely Covid clean country, so why not full crowds as in NZ and other clean places? We are being sold the worst of all worlds

Talking next year don’t forget

As long as the game time goes back to how it was. The game needs to flow, as soon as the players get into it the quarters over and as a spectator I feel like there is something missing.
More adds and less game time is not a good thing.
Soccer game time is 2 x 45 min which gives the players plenty of time to get into it.

Next year with no vaccine they would have to go half crowds unless everywhere is zero transmission. Having internal open borders is far more important than some closed states alloqing full crowds.

‘unless there’s a radical rethink by our governments, we won’t get either. But you sum up the feds response precisely ‘when there’s a vaccine’ but what if there isnt just repeating ‘when there’s a vaccine’ isn’t an actual policy

As I said, the NFL (USA) is operating normal home and away with no crowds. Their Covid is way above ours. They aren’t getting crowd income but they aren’t being whacked with hubbing costs. Afl copped both and there’s no sign it won’t be repeated in 2021.

if we did get a situation where wa continues it’s quarantine policy, as an a example, but the rest of australia is open, then the AFL should simply reloaded those teams for as long as it takes.

They want our money. Thats the incentive.

We are giving them 65 mill. A few fixture additions is the least they can do

....to spend in Queensland. Do we all see the absurdity of the situation? Apparently we are working to eradication of the disease, but won’t be given the benefits of that.

This will help out Vic clubs more than anything. The only club official I've heard speak about it is Eddie.

Clubs will be lining up to hub at the start if the season, get their handful of travel games done, and stay at home for the rest of the season.

There is no need for Vic clubs to even be offered this as an option as they don't have a 'travel burden' to deal with. SA teams have to travel, but it's a short hop to most places from there. NSW and Qld teams are in a similar boat.

If the AFL wanted to help out WA teams they'd let struggling Vic teams play home games in Perth, this reducing the travel burden for the WA clubs and putting some much needed cash into poorer clubs.

‘those clubs aren’t quite so poor because of the MCG/marvel deal, didnt you hear?

anyway if the proposal made sense, they would have done it already. Don’t need a crisis to see the ‘benefits’
