Let's be honest here. If Richmond DON'T take Cousin's tommorrow it is an EPIC FAIL by the AFL and their treating of Ben Cousin's. It will not look good for them at all if Cousin's doesn't play AFL next year.

If we take Goo or Klemke, we take Goo or Klemke, if it's Cuz, it's Cuz, theres nothing we can do about it now.

But I'm pretty sure it won't be Cousins now...

All Clubs could have picked up Cousins only last month. Cousins has had his name in lights and could have been picked up by any of the 16 AFL Clubs. He wasn't.

All thats happened today is the AFL has said no to a bending of the rules.

Cousins only has himself to blame.

So 100% that that player we are looking at in the PSD is Gourdis. With CC saying the player we are looking at will probably be gone by our pick in the rookie draft.

Well I might be my own on this, but would think that the best marketer, and slyest operator possibly ever in the AFL, Sheedy, would have a plan " B " .
Must say I really feel for Graham Polak, who would possibly be feeling like sh!t at the moment, especially given the positive hype this saga has created.
Still think and have said for days we may take Cousins and gamble on what we get in rookie draft to elevate for Polak, out of interest how many players % wise make a name for themselves in the year they were elevated from the rookie list, it isn't as though the player we may miss on's value is going to sky rocket in one season so much that we can't trade to get them at the end of the season during trade week, or that he would play a huge part in our side in 09 anyway ??

Gee Pick 6 in the PSD , I have said it before if this club is serious about improving then they need to get Cousins.

You can not tell me that which ever kid we choose to go with at pick 6 will be better than Ben Cousins. Seriously if this kid was so good then why didnt he get picked up in the national draft ?

So this kid we get is going to play for the next 10 years? I bet who ever it is they wont last 3 years, bookmark it.

If its the same kid we just delisted, well that makes our recruitment department a laughing joke.

Seriously how good can pick 6 be???? Every kid in the PSD has been overlooked in the National Draft and that sort of tells you something, there has been exeptions though but i heavily doubt any kid in this years PSD will be better than Cousins will be in the time he is at your club.

I must say this is about THE FUNNIEST thread I have EVER read !!!!!!!!!!!!!! You people cant decide what you are actually upset about .................. You say you are upset that Polak wasn't allowed to be placed onto the Rookie list like rama was, but you knew about his condition for MONTHS and did NOTHING about placing him there before the List Management lodgements were closed, so you REALLY couldn't have been too concerned about it........... Then you talk about how this decision is an obvious sign that the AFL doesn;t want Cousins to play, yet there is nothing to stop you from using pick #6 to grab him and hope which ever kid you were originally after is still available in the Rookie draft. Then you complain that the Rookie Draft isn;t an option for said kid because the Dockers will recruit him first ........... lmfao, how dare another club recruit a player you are interested in !!!!!!!!!!!


This whole saga is all about having your cake and eating it too ............ The RFC obviously only became interested in Cousins AFTER Sheedy started to talk him up, and you realised that there was only 6 other teams in the PSD with yourselves having pick #6 (the last pick of the draft). So how can we get Cousins but still get the player we originally had in mind for pick #6 ??? I know, lets try and put Polak onto the Rookie list, get an extra pick in the PSD (effectively handing the RFC pick #1 in the Rookie draft) and hopefully be able to elevate Polak back to the senior list after rd 11 .........................

God if it was the CFC trying to pull this one off then EVERY other club would be calling us cheats, saying we are rorting the salary cap and demending the application be denied ...............


The truth of the matter is that you could have applied for Polak to be moved onto the rookie list months ago, and the motion probably would have been granted. Instead you lodges the application only days before the PSD and effectively tried to bully the AFL into buckling under the media hype to let you recruit both Cousins and a kid .............. And if you honestly deny this is what has happened then you are truely kidding youselves .............

You are in the EXACT same position as 6 other clubs in the AFL. You have an opportunity to draft Cousins in the PSD or take a punt on a kid. Now the only question remaining isn't if the AFL doesn;t want Cousins to play, or why the AFL are being big fat meanies and not letting you place Polak onto the the Rookie list, but how badly do you want to recruit Cousins, and is it a bigger risk to recruit him and possibly lose a kid or not recruit him and possibly miss the 8 next year. And what ever decision you make is YOUR choice, not the AFL, not Eddie's who you seem to be using as scape goat #1, but the RFC ....................

P.S The ONLY person who I feel sorry for here is Polak. If you guys REALLY wanted to protect him then you would have put this idea of moving him to the Rookie list MONTHS ago instead of bring the idea up when you had something to gain from it...................

Correct decision was certainly made and Richmond had plenty of time before the National Draft to take some assertive action but deicded to rest on their laurels. Clubs picked up on them trying to take advantage of the Polak situation and the AFL rightly closed that avenue promptly. Sad that Cousins career may now be over but the right decision was made most importantly.
