Try this to get a more even game.

I have done this with every AFL game, and it creates the most realistic scores.

1. Sim the first quarter (in "select side", put the controller in the middle, not to the left or the right).
2. Play as one team in the second quarter.
3. Play as the other team in the third quarter.
4. Sim the last quarter.

This often throws up some very interesting scores and results, as simming the first and last quarters make it harder for you to thrash a team (since you are not playing four quarters with one team).

I find playing it like this is much more fun, as the mistakes you make and the outmarking the AI makes turn around when you play as the other team, so both teams get similar advantages or disadvantages, and it is based more on a tussle between you and the AI than the glitches in the game benefiting one side.

You can also play all the quarters, and play two quarters as one side, and two as the other.

I have done this for every AFL game, and it makes it more fun, including this game.

I can completely understand why people don't like this game, but if you don't like it, why spend so much of your life posting about it?

It'd be like me constantly posting on the Richmond board about how much I hate Richmond. I do hate Richmond, but that's why I don't read their board, let alone post there 300 times.

I appreciate the criticism but the constant name-calling is pretty lame. It's about as childish as using 'Norf' on a regular basis

I love beating heated rivals, also got the "I see it but don't believe it achievement" for being 50 points down at half time and winning the game :D. Hawthorn remain on top of the ladder and Geelong are actually dead last right now :D :D. Increasing the quarter length was a master stroke, I only wish I was thumping teams more to boost my percentage to 400%. I'd love to see if I can go through the season undefeated and get the achievement for it but my luck will run out eventually.

Thats weird, coz you are not down by 50 points at half time.

What quarter length are you using?

I'm pretty sure the trophy is just come back from 50 points behind doesn't matter what stage of the game you fall that 50 points behind.

Correct I checked it before and thought I posted the reply :)

I've floated between 5 and 10 minute quarters the past few days.

I just checked on achievements website, it's "come from 50 points down to win"

I was losing by 63 points late in the second quarter.

I don't understand why people are starting careers or seasons before the patch to fix all the glitches and bugs. Its a waste of time because when the patch comes out in the next week you'll just have to start all over again.

Next week might be a bit ambitious

I'd imagine sometime in the next 4 weeks at most though

Tac cup gameplay is pretty woeful as the players have shit ratings but at AFL level it's pretty good

I've seen the AI do some amazing things I've not been able to do, I've only done a few speccies (did the first by fluke recently and have repeated it a handful of times since).

Game play is pretty cool, I love doing the evades/fake left, go right etc. I did something pretty fluky (was probably a glitch in itself), I kicked the ball to my goal square, bounced and was heading through the point and goal post area..... gained control of the closest team mate that was running to the ball, he was at full pace so would take the ball with him over the line once he gained possession. So on instinct I pressed the handpass button and he handballed it backwards to another player behind him, when I had the ball in hand I kicked the goal. In live action it looked amazing (almost Eddie Betts-esque in that it felt as though he was already over the line when it happened). Still a pretty cool moment that resulted in a goal.

I will be interested to see how they fix things with the patch because I am pretty certain that the marking and the free kicks are CPU cheese that are deliberately used as a cheap way to increase the difficulty.

After looking at the various difficultly levels the only changes I can see is the CPU is slower, easier to mark against and the frees aren't as common in the lower difficulty levels. The whole basis of the AI is based around giving the CPU cheese in the harder levels so I can't see how they can fix the marking and the free kicks without breaking the AI within the game.

Don't love the game but one thing I'll say is that Grand Finals in this are better than any other AFL game. They have the teams logo's on the 50 metre mark, the crowd full, feels pretty good.
I played an AFLW grand final (full house at the g) and the crowd seemed pretty loud as well

I don't need to do that to keep my interest in the game at this stage any way. My concentration and the ebbs and flows of the game keep it interesting enough. Some games have lulls where I've taken it to my end, get stopped by my opponent who marks on the last line of defence, then proceeds to zoom it down to their forward end of the ground (always seems to be able to do it faster than I can) before I mark on the last line of defence.... then I take it to my end.... rinse and repeat - I can certainly see why people call it aerial ping pong sometimes lol.

I've had many favourite games that were exciting to play throughout, over taking and winning at the end. I'm yet to put all four quarters together and have a massive win. I've won by 98 points previously............ but that still wasn't a complete game (in the sense that I was stopped from scoring many times). I've now seen that if all things go well my benchmark can be 10 goals in a quarter. I reckon as with the Geelong game, it could have easily been 12-13 goals if the AI didn't defend a few of my forward 50 entries and then eat up the clock while on the mark.

I'm finding the hard difficulty good as I'm not either winning or losing every game.

In my career mode with the Lions I'm 3-3, results are as follows:

R1: 26 point loss to the Suns
R2: 27 point win over the Bombers
R3: 37 point loss to the Saints
R4: 8 point win over the Tigers
R5: 68 point loss to the Dogs
R6: 33 point win over the Power

The GABBA is becoming somewhat of a fortress, undefeated at home and winless on the road so far.

Gameplay is way more fun once you learn how to mark actually really starting to enjoy it now. Disappointing though looking at the screenshots of RLL4 you wonder what could of been.

I bumped the difficulty down to easy so I could mark on a regular basis. It makes it a bit too easy to move the ball, but at least now if i'm in position I get the mark. I'll bump it back up once i've got the timing down.

I'm really enjoying this game

Really annoying I can't access online community fanhub... always "unavailable" and absolutely no clue how to fix!

The free kicks are a huge bugbear though.

As soon as you play at medium or above when you tackle the CPU one of three things will happen; it's a ball up, the ball spills out directly to a teammate or they pay a free for a push in the back/high tackle.

When you're tackled, even with no prior opportunity, it's called holding the ball or throwing the ball pretty much every time without fail.
