Can you provide any info on the mior leagues involvement in the game? VFL, SANFL, WAFL etc? Will they play a role? How accurate will lists be if they do?

Also, drafting, will there be a way to eye youngsters throughout the year? Or will it be here's the players come draft time?

Thanks in advance BigAnt.

Thanks for the feedback Ross. The game is sounding great so far.

Are there player specific animations eg players have different kicking styles, running styles etc. So O'hailpin has his awkward kicking style, Gilbee has a more polished style and so on. I understand that this may be difficult to implement, but it would add to the realism. Not a big deal if they aren't in though, just wondering as "signature style" seems to be common in sports titles these days. :)

Cheers

I would imagine this is something that could be implemented after getting all the basics of the game down. I'm all for these types of visuals, but would guess that it's not a high priority atm (just my opinion ). In my fantasy land there would not only be different kicking styles but RUNNING styles also, so that Sandilands and Rodan would move differently.

I have a vague kinda question: can you tell the difference between the top players as opposed to the average player when you're controlling them? For example, attempting to extract the ball with a Bartel or a Hayes as opposed to a Cale Morton? Or taking a contested mark with Jon Brown as opposed to .... Cale Morton?

And how will kicking accuracy work? Is it dependant on the player's ratings, the controller's skill, or a mix of both?

I ask because in the past the only real difference between players was how fast they moved. Everything else kind of evened out.

Cheers in advance, no worries if that can't be answered for one reason or another.

Two questions (sorry if they've been answered, can't see them in the sticky):

Can you create a player?
Can you improve player's stats to emulate development & training?

Great that manual bounce is in, I think that it worked really well in one of the earlier titles.

Ross something I'm guessing won't be in the this release but I think it would add a lot for the die hards out there in a future version, is a 'super edit mode' in single player where you can play a season and change absolutely anything, stats, player positions etc, for every team in the comp. This will allow tragics to tweak to their heart's content and play a season where opposition teams more realistically line up to how they are playing now, as opposed to the default 'best 22' style line ups that always age so terribly as the season progresses.

I hope you know what I mean by this. Thanks!

Hi Ross

I thought I'd throw out a few questions in the one post -

We haven't heard anything about taking speccies. I assume these are included in the game? If so, can we expect to see a variety of different ones depending on the player's position and the situation?

Will we have a tribunal system, brownlow medal, rising star etc?

What sort of animation system are you guys using? eg motion capture, real time physics etc and will you have branching animations (animations you can break out of) as opposed to canned animations you have to wait to play out.

Will the game have adjustable sliders to give us the option to tweak the gameplay to our liking?

Also, will there be weather effects in the game?

I understand if you can't answer these right now though. :)

Cheers

Yeah, I don't expect signature animations to be included this year (but you never know :)). I'd rather they get the basics right first.

I'd also like to know whether the star players play differently to the average ones. I feel this one is a must. I want Buddy Franklin to demonstrate more skill than Rhys Stanley otherwise what's the incentive for trying to draft/trade for a good player? Nick Riewoldt should stand out as being a better mark than Zac Dawson etc.

Hey Ross, I have a more finnicky technical question.

Framerate.

If there is that much detail on the texture of Dane Swan's arm, then is the game going to get choppy when you have that much detail on 36 players running around the ground at once? I fear it may. Please dispel this fear for me and everyone.

Otherwise, great job on teasing us with what you have!:thumbsu:

Like NBA 2k10 where they had huge amounts of detail and massive moving crowds. The framerate is so bad on the 360 version it's unplayable.

Getting the camera right is actually the hardest part of making the game.

I struggle watching on TV, the coverage is too "cameo" and tight for my liking, so much is happening off the ball you lose at least 50% of the action in my opinion.

So while there is a "broadcast like" camera, the default will be further back. I personally play it with the same view as if you were in the Southern stand, second level, front row. Playing it any closer doesn't allow you to see what's on offer far enough down the field.

In any case, you will have many camera options. I know it will be a very personal thing as to which one you like most.

That's excellent, I remember AFL '99 working well with a similar sort of view, and I find it a critically important aspect to the game, probably why it was/is the hardest part of making the game. Thanks for the quick reply.

God some of you people ask the most ridiculous questions.. the sort of questions you ask is the reason EA don't want to make an AFL game because it takes things like the SANFL and bloody confidence levels to make you happy. As long as we get some good game play with up to date rosters and ratings with a few different modes and a decent camera angle that is all we need. Stop being so bloody spoilt.

I don't think a few questions would be the reason EA make or don't make a game Fairley. As long as the questions are polite I'm sure the guys at BigAnt are willing to answer.

Having bells and whistles is not the main priority here, we are looking forward to a Footy game that is fun to play first.

Rofl no one here wants a SANFL Game so they should stop asking questions about it.

Done with your little tantrum? There's nothing wrong with asking questions about features which could improve the game, so pull your head in and let people ask whatever the hell they like.

Theres nothing wrong with asking questions about features in the game, but some things brought up are very well unachievable and many huge budget games couldnt inlcude....is SANFL really necessary to have fun?

Quick question for Ross are there any like old guernseys available to play in like in afl 2007, so if you play as brisbane you can use the fitzroy or bears guernsey?

EA Sports won't take it up because their is not a big enough market for the game. Much the same with Cricket now (despite that being a good 15 country sport) and why it's being made by a local company. They just can't sell enough copies - after 1 week Ashes Cricket 2009 sold approx. 60,000 units across PS3 and 360 compared to FIFA 10's 1.4 million first week over PS3 and 360, now consider a 1 country market - to warrant multi-million dollar budgets towards the games.

It's certainly not due to expectations, EA Sports' record at making great sports games is second to none and if they were to take up the challenge they would probably be able to do it. 2 of the best AFL games are still AFL 98 and 99.

That being said, we should just be happy that an AFL game is being made since we've had nothing but the PSP titles to tide us over for 4 years and it sounds like there's a good amount of actual AFL fans too in the development studio so they will want it to be just as good as we do. And I love that BigAnt have a long term development plan, IMO that is one of the best things you can do with sports games to make sure you don't start with incremental updates. Have a good set out plan of development for the future and you should have a good game for years to come.

They've already answered this one. As it's a licensed game only the current licensed guernseys will be available.

I agree, the gameplay rates above all, although I don't think all the AFL whiners are the reason EA don't want to make an AFL game.

Anyone with common sense knows that gameplay is the most important thing, that goes without saying, but additional features can add depth to the game. Personally the SANFL isn't high on my list, but the ability to control more than one team in career mode (if they have a career mode in the game) so you can go against some mates would be cool, the ability to save replays is also cool imo. I don't see how giving us these options would be "unachievable" or require a huge budget.

IMO some requests seem pretty silly but people have different priorities and I'm not going to criticise them because they want a feature I'm not crazy about, I'm sure everyone puts gameplay first anyway. :)
