Alright, fair to say I've been one of the more positive ones on this thread, saying don't judge the game till it comes out or at least get a trailer yadda yadda yadda.

After seeing the trailer, my confidence has taken a huge blow. It appears that gameplay will struggle if features such as
- Players bending over before the specky has been taken
- 5 players chasing a single player
- The apparent ability of players to bounce off then materialize back to the players again
that have been seen in the trailer are reflected in the game. Graphics look average at best, tried it in HD which resulted in a little improvement but not much. One of the real things I noticed is how close players get to the man on the mark when kicking, they usually end up kicking around the man on the mark rather than over them given how close they are.

Verdict: What we should be hoping for is a fun, almost arcade style game that's not as close to realism as Big Ants. I still maintain high hopes that career mode will make this game fun to play over a long period of time, although I am considering cancelling my preorder.

Just an extra point, speckies generally look shithouse in AFL trailers as (in this case at least) they are overused and don't look realistic. BigAntStudios when you're put in charge of AFL Live 3 after the dismal reports of AFL Live 2 feel free to make a note of this :p

Graphics and animations look appalling. Incredibly weird seeing 5 players onto one other, hopefully this doesn't affect the gameplay too much. What I will say that is positive though is I am a fan of the overall pace increase and openness of play, hopefully that transcends to a more 'AFL' like speed of game. I wait with baited breath.

Early impressions are it aint great but it could be worse. The 5 players to one is concerning and the kicking and marking animations are as clunky as they were in AFL Wii but graphically it's better than AFL Live 1 and there is improvements from Wii with the speed of play much faster and it seems you can actually handball properly now.

....Day 65.
We have finally reached the summit! Doesn't look so good up here, the pot of gold we were promised has turned out to be a pile of shit.

Also WW were obviously the cheaper option, If this game sells bad then Tru Blu won't go running back to BigAnt they will just see it that there is no demand for an AFL Franchise game and probably won't fund another one.

You have to remember, all the AFL Live trailer is composed from is camera adjustments on the game creation software for close ups and views from replay.

AFL Live 2 is all gameplay with exactly how the game will look.

Big Ant = an edited trailer (what you see is what you expect but don't get)
Wicked Witch = what you see is what you get.

Sorry, but its the truth. In the end AFL Live 2 compared to AFL Live... AFL Live 2 is better.
wow - you're the only one I know to have played both. Awesome.

Of course the trailer is edited, they both are. If they weren't you'd just get a minute of uninterrupted gameplay. The BA trailer is stylized as you would expect, but the animations used in the BA trailer are the same as those in the final game (as far as I can see). The view is zoomed in and looks more dynamic in the trailer than in the final but it's the same gear (correct me if I'm wrong Ross) and it would be unplayable like that anyway.
All 100% correct.

Looks choppy and cheap. Really wish BA had another crack at it, their game wasn't perfect but it was fun and I would've liked to see them build on it

I'll still be picking up a copy though

You're the problem.

What the hell was with the animation at the :11 mark? Did he teleport? Also lol at the horrible face melting screen glitch.

Will not buy, will not support a shite game and shitty publishers.
Sorry bro, won't buy the game because you don't like it, I apologise. :thumbsu:

I think we are all being too harsh. Tru Blu released a trailer of that (read: terrible) quality 1 or 2 days after the latest GTA V trailer. That's the sort of ballsy, inept timing that we Australians love. Sure the game probably isn't great, but look beyond that. In this country we don't honour people that work hard and steadily rise to the top. We admire the bloke that gets into work at 10.30, has a nap, does a half arsed job and then gets promoted because he was the only person that didnt oppose working weekends - he'd fallen asleep in the meeting.

That bloke is WW and its our duty as Australians to respect their inability to perform even the simplest of tasks efficiently.

Hey Ross....given all the time and money that would be required are you able / allowed to do an update on AFL Live or are you restricted because the second game is coming out? Do you still have the licensing ability? Just curious.

By the look of things imuch prefer your effort.....but still buying this one in two weeks time. The game needs the support.

Stop pretending like you aren't involved in the game. Does it have adjustable sock lengths?
In two minds.... there are certainly some suspicions... almost only posts on AFL game threads and talks about stadia as if he has "reference" material that he's studied... and probably the biggest of all who really likes both GWS and the Swans? Wouldn't that be like liking both Port and the Crows or Freo and the Eagles. (Only someone a Swans supporter could tell me if this is true, it's just a guess.)

In the same way he says "sorry" to me... I would say "sorry" mate, your posts read like someone who's read the rules of the game, studied some stadia from reference and done a bit of QA, but my "spidey sense" tells me to very much doubt you know anything about footy...

Our AFL Live will not be updated again.

If you want to play an up to date AFL game then this is the only choice.

I am a footy fan, I'll be buying it.

Essentially it looks like AFL Wii with the stupid mini games and button indicators taken out of it. I don't know how anyone can possibly think the animations looks better the players are setting their opponents up for speckies and sliding around everywhere (that evaded tackle around 0:12 isn't getting enough of a mention).

But yeah... I know I'm still gonna buy it.

That's the scariest possibility here. That this game is so shit that word spreads and sales die in the arse, and TruBlu use that as evidence that the public simply doesn't want AFL games. Rather than looking at why it was so bad.

Also I'm seeing a lot of the criticisms directed towards AFLL1 being that handballing was impossible? Once you get the hang of it they're actually pretty easy. Just because you're shit at a game doesn't make it the game's fault.

The biggest factor I see here is how AFLL2 is going to age. AFLL1 still holds up today gameplay wise, whereas AFLL2 already looks outdated and clunky by today's standards and it's not even out yet.

I prefer the handballs to autoaim like it did in the AFL Live 2 trailer. Short passes shouldn't be something you have to think about.

I'm going to assume the mechanics of career mode will be very similar to the Wii version. Can someone familiar with that game tell me how it works. Say I create a player (which will, of course, be me :D). Do I start off in the TAC Cup? Do I then get drafted by a random VFL side or do I choose which one I go to? Then moving to the AFL, do you get drafted (ie if you dominate the VFL will you end up at a crappy club like Melbourne which will have a high draft pick) or can you choose?

Basically I want to know if it's easy to end up at the club you support in career mode or is it random (thanks to the draft)?

Are there any VFL clubs that aren't aligned with an AFL club? Because as an Eagles fan I don't want my created player playing for say Essendon's reserves!
