Reading some of the posts on the AFL Live 2 Facebook page. Wish I hadn't. Some of these poor souls.

"I have a question for you AFL LIVE 2 some people may think its silly tho should be apart of the game with the players foot wear are we going to see brands names on our footy boots like Nike or puma and adadas boots?"

Poor souls.

They obviously didn't get to live through "sockgate" 2 years ago with AFL Live like the rest of us here did.

AFL Live had faults, sure, however it is a video game and so needed balance, you can't have players just running away and beating everyone because of their stats alone, if I want to win a flag with Melbourne then I need to be able too. The AI is notoriously difficult to code in AFL, so many variables to consider, despite what people have posted about our AI, in my opinion the AI and resultant positioning in AFL Live is it's strongest feature. I certainly look forward to your comments on the AI in AFL Live 2 (I am yet to see anything other than the screenshots and trailer myself).

I know from the number of games played online that people got good value for their money with AFL Live and am content with what we produced. It is the best AFL game to date of that I am sure.

Oh for sure, it is the best AFL game I've ever played too. But it's not perfect and I hope AFL Live 2 can improve on the areas I disliked the most with the original (while keeping the parts I liked!)

Played it again yesterday (smashed Adelaide, made me feel a bit better after being at the game on Saturday night :() and another aspect I dislike is that sometimes the game actually takes control away from you. You push the stick one way and your player refuses to obey your command. Frustrating.

I think the difficulty is about right for 2min quarters. Any longer and it becomes a snoozefest as you win against anyone by 20+ goals. Which is OK, I think 2 min quarters is a good length for a game. But it means I'm never going to get all the achievements because playing an entire season with 20 min quarters will take forever when you're piling on 20 goals a quarter at the hardest difficulty! I got the achievement for doing the NAB Cup like that, madness!

In all honesty the thing that means the most to me is if AFLL2 doesn't freeze as much as AFLL1. I bloody love AFLL1 and still play it semi regularly but it gets a bit annoying consistently having games freeze at the start of the fourth quarter. Socks, gameplay etc i can get used to but actually being able to finish every game is important to me!

That video looks poor. I can't believe they left that glitch in during the players faces.
The animations are a step backwards, although the stadiums do like pretty nice.

AFL Live 1 had it's issues. Tacklefest basically, and the goal kicking was easy when you worked out how to aim. It was a great start, and it's a shame this game couldn't build on it.
It'll still sell well though, no matter what. I hope I'm wrong, hopefully it plays better than it looks.

Looks like they've just made AFL Live problems and all with a career mode and that's enough for me I guess.

Still it hurts to think about what we'd be about to devour from Big Ant if that contract had gone through. Imagine the DBC13 treatment on an AFL Game...

The experience and improvements gained with RLL2 and Bradman 14 will no doubt help BA for any future possible AFL games.

That'd be the plan. Buy this version to keep the prospect of an AFL game viable, but make enough noise to TB about BA doing the next version and AFL Live 2015 for PS4 will be the pinnacle of AFL simulations.

The pinnacle of AFL simulations... where everyone gets slowly disenchanted as the virtual rules committee keeps ruining the game and drugs and salary cap rorting runs free.

Sounds like a hoot, I look forward to breaching the cap as Carlton and seeing what happens :p

I have been following this thread since page 1, I did similar for AFL Live 1 and have played AFL games since AFL 99 when I was a kid, where you could make the players mini!

Anyway after seeing the trailer, I like the rest of you had reservations. The graphics especially reminded me of AFL 07 on the ps2, which isnt great for a next gen console in 2013. Many people mentioned that it looked very similar to the Wii game, so I investigated, borrowing a mates copy and giving it a brief (all I could tolerate) play.

The following two images are the key images from playing it that will have relevance to the new game, which seems to be an upgrade on the wii engine of AFL live. Teams.jpg Crowd Size.jpg

I will comment on the aspects of the wii game that have relevance to the new game:
- Crowd sizes: as seen in the picture you can decide the size of the crowd. it was obvious when playing but due to the sketchy graphics and iphone camera, the pictures I took showed no obvious difference. The differences were evident when playing, and to be honest the crowd looked good in the new trailer so I am optimistic about this feature. Hopefully you have some say during season & career modes so we dont see a full MCG for gws v melbourne.
- The teams: The picture above shows the best team (All Aus) and worst (Western Jets) in the Wii Game. This is a two edged sword, it is realistic how there is such a significant difference in stats. However I could literally run the entire field with gary ablett without getting caught, simply due to his superior stats. I know it was impossible to get away at all in AFL Live 1, but to never get caught is on the other end of the spectrum, hopefully in Live 2 it is somewhere in between.
- The team selection menu is exactly the same as that seen in the trailer. It is an improvement on the lists of 3 per position in Live 1, but still is a list where you can see about a third of the team before needing to scroll down. The list is on the left of the exact field view seen in the trailer. An improvement on Live 1, but they should have taken note of the effectiveness of the full field view from AFL 2007 etc.
- Career mode was pretty good! Hopefully the gameplay is good enough to tolerate as this feature will maintain the longevity of this game. The Wii version had all the features mentioned for the new game, including tribunal (Some long 6 week suspensions..) and injury (hospital/physio - Dale Morris was out 42 weeks with a knee, realistic I guess..). On this version you don't recieve trade offers, however you can make them, with a 2 way, or 3 way trade. Draft picks can be included. The draft was VERY similar to that in AFL 07. Players were random names (I noticed both AFL names and non - TAC teams seemed to have some new names), and players potential was there. What was a worry was that Eddie Prato (On dogs list in 2011 when the game came out), had the highest potential of anyone in the draft, 99.. Wikipedia him to see if that is realistic.

Of course all of this is presuming the new version is similar to the Wii game. Overall after seeing the advertised new features and buildup for the new game, it to me seems to be simply the Wii version adapted to 360/Ps3. They have improved graphics (Still seems inferior to Live 1), and will have to have created new gameplay, as the Wii version is absolute rubbish, relying on the motion control and poor mini games. All in all, I will be purchasing as the career mode and 4 leagues worth of teams will justify the $65 for me. Heres hoping for good gameplay :thumbsu:
