I'm so bloody sick of Jezza's mark being replayed and replayed and replayed.
It wasn't anything special.

I'm all for Lou Richards legend status. Has done way more than Jezza and he's a bloody ripper of a bloke to top it off!

A short analysis comparing the relative achievements of the two will provide an insight to your mind. Judging by previous posts lots of us will find it amusing.

Any chance you were actually born when jezza was playing???????

If you were you would know that THAT mark was only a small bit in a sensational highlight reel that was his career.

Doesn't mean much to you that he played in 4 premiership sides (1 as captain coach), kicked 115 goals in 1970, 444 career goals (20 St Kilda), played 279 VFL/AFL games, represented Victoria on numerous occassions, All Aust twice and AFL Team of the Century.

Superstar, even by todays standards.

There was nothing over-rated about that mark! I wasn't old enough to be there, but my old man, as a neutral, said the entire MCG inhaled. He reckons the TV replay doesn't do it justice. It's not an iconic image of the game by accident.

On the subject of the tread, leaving Jezza out of it, I'd love to see Louie get the nod while he's still with us. No-one did more to promote the game of Aussie Rules than Louie, and his work in 'The Club' is A1!

He shouldn't be a legend. He is only a legend because of his mark which clearly is not the best that I have ever seen. I have seen many more better.

Yet another moron!
To actually write "he is only a legend because of his mark" and then not go back and erase it as the most stupid piece of logic ever written would seem to suggest that this poster is without a prayer.

I have just checked out other Babybomber postings and this is NOT the most stupid piece of logic - it seems that many otheres posted by him/her are EQUALLY stupid. Definitely, without a prayer!

We now have a tie for possibly the single most stupid comment I have ever seen on BigFooty, along with a Collingwood supporter who said the same thing on another thread.

The reason why lou richards has not been elevated is because you can only be elevated as a player or a coach. Yes he was a great player and a great tv personality, but u cant become a legend through media commitments

What an embarrassing statement:o Jezza was a freak with amazing skills and balance... a worthy inductee.

I posted elsewhere that Lou deserves the honour for the totality of his contribution to footy. If however the posts are correct regarding the fact it is assessed only on playing and/or coaching ability, Lou will never be inducted as a legend as his playing record simply doesn't stack up against a lot of others. Buckley would have a better chance than Lou in time.

LMAO ..

Lou Richards is the 'Grampa Simpson' of the AFL/football scene, cause he is a funny old (and at times clueless) old man, doesn't give him the right to legend status.

FWIW I don't think (based on the criteria) lou richards deserves to be an legend, if anyone from Collingwood does it was Bob Rose FFS, he actually warranted it for his brilliant on-field career ..

Based on his footballing career and statistics, Lou Richards hasn't earned the right for 'legend' status ..
And forgetting his age or not (and the likelyhood he won't be around much longer) I can think of at least 10 more players more worthy of legend status then Lou Richards - IE Royce Hart, Bob Rose, Bruce Doull, Tony Lockett, Wayne Carey, Jason Dunstall, Greg Williams, Kevin Murray, Gary Ablett Snr, Steve Silvangi) ...

The all time greatest champions or great coaches should always be recognised first IMHO, and on that criteria, Richards doesn't not qualify.

That's crap, I would say Jezza is certainly a better player then Bill Hutchinson, who is also a legend in the HOF (anyone who disagress is a liar or totally ignorant)

Jezza was one of, if not the GREATEST Finals/Grand final player of all time ..

His performances in all of the 4 Carlton premierships he played in speak for themselves.
After Wallsy, he was just about BOG for Carlton in the 1972 GF ..

But don't let your football ignorance get in the way of a good story.

The contribution of a 250 game player, club captain, premiership captain, premiership player, 3rd most goals kicked by a rover in the history of the game, putting football on the electronic media map in the late 50s and 60s. His contribution to media over 50 years. World of Sport is an institution, League Teams inspired the footy show, lous handball, kiss of death. Things that are football royalty.

You do realise that none of these things have any bearing on whether ot not he makes it into legend status in the hall of fame? Might want to check the criteria before you come up with such things.

There are a lot of players who are far more deserving than Lou and i would suggest that it will be a long time if ever that he is inducted as a legend. He was a good player who served his club well over a long period of time but was not a champion player. You really are overated how good a player he was.

Being a good bloke doesn't make him more deserving.

SO if someone doesn't agree with your opinion they are a liar or ignorant?

You are a tool of the highest order!

FWIW there are a lot of people who rate Hutchison as a better player than Dick Reynolds. These are people who actually saw them play and are in a position to comment.

You are the ignorant one if you think you can comment on a player you never saw play. How can you be so certain that Jezza was a better player than Hutchy? You don't even know the guy's correct name yet you seem to think you know about what sort of player he was.

It seems you have no idea about the guy so here is his career in a nutshell:

Hutchison played in the VFL from 1942-1957, his career entirely with the Essendon Football Club. He play 290 VFL games and kicked 496 goals. He captained Essendon for 7 years, from 1951 to 1957.
Generally considered one of the finest rovers ever to play the game, he was a vital part of the Bombers' premiership sides in 1942, 1946, 1949 and 1950. He was a dual Brownlow Medal winner, claiming victory in 1952 and 1953. He was typically high on the Brownlow medal points table, finishing 3rd in 1948, 6th in 1950, 3rd in 1951 and 2nd in 1955.
In 2002 at a "champions of essendon" gala event, Hutchison was voted the 4th greatest Essendon player of all time.[1]
Hutchison is a member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame with Legend status.

I never saw Jezza or Hutchy play so i am not going to be as stupid as you and claim that Hutch was clearly a better player but i think those stats stack up pretty well against any player to have ever played the game.

It is no wonder you have the reputation that you do. :thumbsu:;)

He shouldn't be a legend. He is only a legend because of his mark which clearly is not the best that I have ever seen. I have seen many more better.

I would like to stress very much that this fools comment does not reflect the views of Essendon supporters on Jezza being a legend.
Thankyou :thumbsu:

No I have already told u Richards has made a greater contribution to football over a longer time.

so what. who cares what YOU said?

doesn't make it fact. besides the hall of fame committee have just told you that he did NOT make a greater contribution to football over a longer time.

I'm taking them over a half witted nuff nuff.

Jezza was the greatest big game/finals/GF games player ever (or would be in the top two or 3) he was close to BOG in each of the 4 Carlton premierships he played in ..

I have no doubt that fact alone pushes him ahead of Hutchinson, so stop talking garbage ..
I bet if u asked most respected media commentators and journos, they would say Jezza was a better player then Hutchinson ..
