There's no way SoO doesn't have a game at the MCG if they bring it back. Plus, both WA and SA will want a Vic team to play. VM will win anywhere, period, so let them win in the biggest stadium in Australia
So Origin just more like the kids version (U18s).

No. I'm a Port Adelaide-ian and don't give two brown biscuits about South Australia.

Loved origin as a kid but not sure we need it currently.
To make it happen the AFL would need to offer up a very generous compensation package to clubs for players injured
I'm sure they could do that with extra tv rights deal for those games.
Bearing in mind the AFL basically owns most clubs these days.

One too powerful team would kill the concept off like it did last time. Vic metro at home for that reason, doesn't make sense. The only team that would even come close to metro is Vic country.

The best part of Origin was that the big V did not rule supreme.

The bastardisation of who played where was best illustrated by Jason Dunstall playing for Vic.

Lol, Vic clubs getting handed their arses by non Vics, next minute, lets bring back SOO so we can regain some face as a collective.

Yeah this year is the only time in the last 15 years SOO has been discussed, despite Vic clubs winning all bar 2 flags since 2006 the Vics are desperately sad about only having teams in 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th 😂

We should be pleased that the main attraction to our games main league is the, you know, main league.

NRL is not that popular really outside of SOO. Really relies on it as a leg-up.

I don’t think we need a SOO and if anything with the culture of every clubs newest players growing up to want to win premierships it’d only get further bastardised. NRL kids want to play rep football. Which is great for them because it works for a concept perfectly and is a showpiece event, but the AFLs showpiece event is the actual competition itself.

Actually that team could beat w.a, it would be a quality match up. I'd have Draper over Grundy as the ruck.

Agreed! The team has certainly improved from a couple of years ago, with the emergence of some young stars. Only weak area would be tall forwards, so could do with another high end player there.

Also fair re ruck selection.

This is where the rules must be crystal clear.
How could Charlie Cameron not be considered a Queenslander under any State of Origin criteria? Born in Queensland and lived there all the way up until he was 17 when he finished school and moved to WA. First played Aussie rules while attending Marist College in Brisbane around 15 and spent 6 months in the Brisbane Lions academy back then. Definitely a Queenslander IMO.

Incidentally, here is my 2023 Queensland team for anyone that's interested. Not as bad as some may think:

FBConnor Budarick (GC/Gold Coast)Harris Andrews (BL/Brisbane)Jack Payne (BL/Sunshine Coast)
HBKeidean Coleman (BL/Brisbane)Aliir Aliir (PA/Brisbane)Jack Bowes (GEE/Cairns)
CLachie Weller (GC/Gold Coast)*Dayne Zorko (BL/Gold Coast)Bailey Scott (NM/Gold Coast)
HFCharlie Cameron (BL/Mornington Island)Eric Hipwood (BL/Sunshine Coast)Oskar Baker (WB/Brisbane)
FFMabior Chol (GC/Brisbane)Charlie Dixon (PA/Cairns)Noah Cumberland (RIC/Sunshine Coast)
RTom Hickey (SYD/Brisbane)Ben Keays (ADE/Brisbane)Will Ashcroft (BL/Gold Coast)
ICSamson Ryan (RIC/Toowoomba)Alex Davies (GC/Cairns)Jaspa Fletcher (BL/Brisbane)
Bohdi Uwland (GC/Gold Coast)
* Not clear if Lachie Weller would be considered a Queenslander or a Tasmanian.

Makes sense to make Michael Voss the coach considering he's the only Queenslander that currently coaches an AFL team. The Queensland team should be a fair bit strong from next year onwards with Jed Walter (key forward), Jake Rogers (midfielder) and Ethan Read (ruck) all expected to be taken with picks in the top 25 and we all expect the likes of Will Ashcroft to blossom even further. Plus there's another Ashcroft coming through next year.

SoO won't work for the reasons others have posted about.

What I would like to see back is International Rules Vs Ireland. That way we actually get to see the best players on the park at once.

Charlie how, see the carry on without clearly defined rules. I agree with your interpretation. More widely used is the U18 representation which ignores those whose family move. Charlie played WAFL 3rds & PSA whilst boarding at Aquinas (WA) the year he was drafted.

The concept is too difficult.

I would a honorary teams selected.

WA,SA, Vic Metro , Vic County and Allies (NT,NSW, TAS , ACT and internationals).

If we are to get it back, then make it Only one game playoff.

Winner of Game 1 , 1 v 2 winner is the National champion and plays the national champion game the following team.

Winner of Game 2 , 3 v 4 winner plays the following national game and loser doesn’t play the following year.

Team 5 doesn’t play and the following games are played.

Tas vs NT/Internationals , NSW vs QLD

WA north of the river vs south of the river

Vic Country East vs West

SA Country vs City.

Home games are just like Davis Cup with alternate games.

Under the rules in the final years of Origin, Cameron definitely be considered Queensland based on that.

Weller would be Tasmanian, as he didn't move to Qld until 15 which is almost at the end of the "formative years".

Yeah I do. You don't agree that 1 team being too strong kills interest in the competition? Strange take on things.
I didn't realise a 4-3 w-l ratio to your greatest rivals in the AFL era was too strong.
