I think its a little warrented actually... For a supposed 3rd forward for that matter to only kick 25 goals in 21 games is just not good enough...

Yep. What better way to remedy our ruck problem than by drafting a guy who averages less hitouts per game than Kreuzer, Cloke and Hampson. :thumbsu:

Clearly his hitout average is affected by playing a far second fiddle to Sandilands, but don't expect him to come in day one and dominate in the ruck.

Some interesting stats from that link.

Here are a few stats (from the whole '08 season) that we really need to improve in

Contested marks - 57 less than opposition - not big enough or strong enough in the air.

Tackles - 60 less than opposition - not accountable enough or chase hard enough

Hit outs - 316 less than opposition - we really need a GOOD ruckman !!

Contested posessions - 44 less than opposition - we have to be harder @ the ball.

Bounces - 107 less than opposition - we need a lot more run with the ball, IMO we play way too static.

Errors - 106 more than opposition - our skills and decision making have to improve.

Things we were good at !!

Frees for - 10 more than opposition
Free against - 5 less than opposition
1st posession - 65 more than opposition
Clearances - 31 more than opposition

On the other hand, the 1st possession/clearance stats are very promising, considering the dominance of the opposition ruckmen. If we managed to break even in the ruck, we'd have a huge ascendancy in the centre of the ground.

We did field a young and inexperienced side all year, so those contested mark/possessions, even tackles are areas that'll hopefully improve with more hardened bodies. Our disposal has been an issue for years now.

I agree b4f, I did not post these stats as a criticism, but more as a guide to areas that we need to maybe focus and improve on in the off season. :thumbsu:

It all depends on how many contests he (Warnock) had compared to our 2 blokes, so I dont think comparing from the above stat is fare. He looks to me as if he still has to mature a bit and fill out a touch, hopefully he can be a dominant giraffe like Harry Madden, anywhere near him and we are well on our way.
If Hampson comes on we can start to settle Kruez as another option up forward, making a contest at every opportunity until he starts to grab games by the neck for the next 10 yrs. If I can rememeber Stocks was initially a ruck forward, hope Kruez turn out the same.

One thing is for sure the stats show us we need a ruck. One thing they don't state is the importance of a ruck when your team has a run on and the momentum is all with us. The first place to stop the momentum is usually in the ruck, as its the next phase of the game after scoring a goal. I think this was critical this year, we had 4-5 goal leads in a few games early and during the season which we lost, Richmond and St Kilda spring to mind. A good stat would be where the momentum was stopped and who let us down when things changed.

BTW bring on 2009, go the Blues!!!!
