AFL Team of the Decade 2010-2019

Remove this Banner Ad

With the decade fast coming to a close players have had ample opportunity to put their hand up for a team of the decade spot. This is the thread to post your team and discuss.

B: Enright Rance McGovern
HB: Shaw Taylor Hodge
C: Martin Ablett Pendlebury
M: Gawn Swan Dangerfield
HF: Gray Franklin CRioli
F: JRiewoldt Kennedy Betts
IC: SMitchell Selwood Fyfe RMurphy

Can make a case for quite a few more players as well.
3 AA and a Brownlow during that period surely means Judd makes the team.

Judd only 2 x AA this decade (2010, 2011)

Patrick Cripps would've played more good games in this decade than Juddy

Using Brownlow votes as a guide....

Judd:
In 2 seasons (2010-11) - 53 votes in 21 of 41 games (14 BOGs) --> GUN!
In 4 seasons (2012-15) - 25 votes in 12 of 55 games (5 BOGs) --> Not so great.

Cripps:
Let's assume he is leading the 2019 medal with 16 votes in 8 of 12 games (3 BOGs)
In 6 seasons (2014-19) - 65 votes in 32 of 93 games (10 BOGs) and counting...

Carlton B&Fs:
Judd 2010-2015:_ 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 7th, >10th
Cripps 2014-2019: >10th, 1st, 3rd, 8th, 1st, 1st

Very good looking team.

Gibson and Kennedy in, Gov and Murphy out. Mitchell into the midfield and Swan on the bench. Really want to include Nick Riewoldt too, but can't see a spot. He's better than Jack, but Jack has played longer this decade. Gawn is probably pretty lucky to make it given he didn't play much 2010-2014 and only broke out late 2015, pretty fortunate that there was nobody dominant between Cox and Sandi and he and Grundy. Goldstein and Naitanui were excellent, but never quite as dominant as any of these four. Who knows what would have happened if NN hadn't missed two seasons.

B: Enright McGovern Burgoyne
HB: Lake Taylor Hodge
C: Selwood Ablett Dangerfield
M: Gawn Swan Pendlebury
HF: S. Johnson Franklin Kennedy
F: Chapman NRiewoldt Betts
IC: SMitchell Bartel Fyfe RMurphy

If it was last 15 years I'd have Scarlett over McGovern and Milne over Betts

Not sure B&Fs results from 2014 to 2019 are as valuable as during Judd's time.

Not sure how Kennedy isn't in some of the teams.

2 Colemans and a 1 runner up that he missed by only a few goals despite missing 4 more games than Buddy.

6 years of 59 or more goals. Injury the only reason he didn't have 60 goals in each of the last 8 years.

No issues with Buddy being picked before him, but he's the second key forward picked. Jack R a close third.

Based on AA gongs since 2010

B: C Enright (4) - A Rance (5) - J McGovern (3)

HB: S Mitchell (3) - M Hurley (2) - H Shaw (2)

C: S Pendlebury (5) - J Selwood (5) - D Swan (4)

HF: R. Gray (4) - J Kennedy (WC) (3) - D Martin (3)

F: L Franklin (7) - J Riewoldt (3) - E Betts (3)

R: A Sandilands (2) - P Dangerfield (6) - G Ablett (5)

I: D Hannebery (3) - C Rioli (3) - J Kennedy (Syd) (3) - N Fyfe (2)

Includes every player who's had 3+ AAs since (and incl) 2010. The others (2 AAs each) are Sandilands, Fyfe, Hurley and Shaw.

Here are the other dual AAs: A Gaff, B Deledio, C Wingard, C Judd, D Talia, D Glass, D Cox, H Taylor, J Roughead, J Watson, L Breust, M Boyd, M Gawn, R Murphy, R Laird, S Milne, T Mitchell, T Boak, T Cloke.

There were positional shortages from which I had to choose from the 2x AAs - ruckman, key back and half back flanker.

Ruck - I chose Sandilands over Gawn and Cox due to longevity across the decade. Cox retired in 2014 and Gawn didn't play a full season until 2016... I believe Sandilands played the most games of the three this decade.

HBF - I went Shaw, again due to longevity... he's largely played very good footy across the entire decade.

Key back - I chose Hurley because he's still playing very good footy and is a big chance to win a third AA this season.

And then I gave the final spot to Fyfe, again because he's still playing well and could even jag a third AA this season.

The last four are subjective, there's multiple options.

Only player I find questionable is Hurley over Taylor. Hurley shouldn't be AA this year (was especially terrible this weekend)

On a more analytical view, Taylor has had 8 good seasons this decade where Hurley has only had 4 (soon to be 5)

Enright Scarlett Rance
Burgoyne Gibson Hodge
Ablett S.Mitchell Gray
Gunston N.Riewoldt Franklin
Breust JJK Betts
??? Pendlebury Judd
Dangerfield Bartel Swan J.Roughead

I seriously cant pick a single ruck.
Sandilands has 2 AA's and was dominating early
Goldstein was the best ruck in the league for a good while
McEvoy has played a role in 3 Grand Finals and has 2 medals
Gawn has been a force since breaking out.
Ryder has had some great seasons, along with NicNat.
Stef Martin has plugged away whilst the Lions have been down, but has nonetheless been a very good ruckman in that time.

Sandilands deserves a mention. Was very relevant from 2010-2015.
