Except it hasn’t ruined Test cricket.
You're right. It's ruined cricket all together. What was once a great sport has been r*ped and pillaged to within an inch of its life. People that didn't follow cricket before 20/20 was introduced were never real cricket fans to begin with mate.

I can only pray that AFL doesn't head down the same path...

I feel like the main people who are against T20 Cricket are from older generations who grew up with pretty much only Test cricket, who don’t like change, who think that because they grew up with only Test cricket, that everyone has to grow up with only Test cricket.

Of course there’s people from all generations who don’t like T20 cricket and that’s fine, but I feel the majority are people who grew up without it who think that Test cricket is the only ‘real’ version of cricket.

It is still a great sport, now with more variety for different kinds of fans. Some fans prefer Tests, some prefer One-Dayers, some prefer T20’s, they can all be true fans. People can still be ‘true fans’ even if they like a form of cricket that you don’t...

It’s like saying the kids growing up these days, who wouldn’t remember cricket before T20 was introduced because they were too young, aren’t true cricket fans... It’s just silly.

This. If anything it’s ODIs that are feeling the pinch.
In saying that I have no idea about AFLX, should I care?

Yeah I can understand the argument about T20 cricket hurting ODI cricket for sure.

I was only slightly intrigued about AFLX, but now they’ve introduced the fixture I like what they’re doing, 6 games or so all in the one day so the fans can see a range of teams and a range of their favourite players.

I like that AFLX only goes over 3 days. Get in, get out, see if it’s something worth persisting with.

I'm one of those "test cricket is the only real cricket" types, but I also love the T20 tournaments like the IPL and Big Bash and often go to see random teams play it.
But at the same time I can easily sit and watch every ball of a complete 5 test series with every test lasting the entire 5 days and be absolutely entralled.

I can sit and watch every ball of a 5 Test series, an ODI, or a T20, love them all :thumbsu: I’d watch IPL more if it was televised on Foxtel or something but unfortunately I just follow it on the Cricket Aus app. I’m hoping for a Canberra BBL side to be introduced that I can try and push for.

I'll be really interested to see who we run with in our AFLX squad. Still no idea about what mix of youth, experience, height, pace, etc. you need.

I'll tip in my squad as

Buzza
Blicz
Kolo
Stanley
Menegola
Parfitt
Zuthrie
Cuthrie
Bews
Tuohy

But I'd be happy to get even two of those right.

First Goal - Cockatoo
Last Goal - Hawkins
Most Touches - Ablett
Most Goals - Buzza
Most Marks - Menegola
Most Tackles - S. Selwood
Think only two of those listed will be playing

I don't watch one day cricket, mostly due to time, but I've never been that enamoured with it. I never watch 20/20, again due to time, but I've really got no interest.

My overall complaint is the same - there's a lesser role for bowlers in one day cricket, and there's no role for them at all in 20/20. They might as well give them tennis balls for one day matches, and then bowl tennis balls underarm in 20/20. For me the game is at its best when there's a contest. Heavily skewing the advantages all to the batsmen doesn't do that. It's the same reason why I hate that grounds in Australia have been roped off.

An no I'm not a "test cricket is the only cricket". You can play as much one day and 20/20 as you like. But for a true contest between bat and ball I'll only watch the longer form of the game.

Back to topic, this is just like any other pre-season game. Footy fans have fallen over themselves for ten years bemoaning pre-season football, and now quite predictably they'll all fall over themselves to say how great this concept is.
