AFLW High Performance Manager Eliza Morrison provides an injury update as the Tigers begin their 2025 campaign in Sydney next Friday night against the Swans.

Tessa Lavey: Hamstring, 1-2 weeks
"Tessa has returned to team training and all is going well. She should be expected to be available for selection in Round 1," Morrison said.

Grace Egan: Quad, 1-2 weeks
"Grace is tolerating her rebuild really well," Morrison said.
"We will start to add in football drills this week, with the plan to expose her to enough team training to be available for selection in Round 1."

Beth Lynch: Shoulder, 1-3 weeks
"Beth is back training with the team," Morrison said.
"We still have a couple of progressions for her to tick off before playing, but we are preparing for her to be ready in the early rounds of the season."

Sarah Hosking: Hamstring, 2-3 weeks
"Sarah has been very diligent in ticking off everything in her return to play," Morrison said.
"Her last progression is longer minutes of competition, which we will continue to build over the next couple of weeks and have her ready for the early rounds of the season."

Montana McKinnon: ACL, TBC
"Montana is loving being back amongst the group," Morrison said.
"She has been working really closely with Shaun Hampson to keep exposing her to football-specific training for her ruck position.
"Montana still has a couple of tick-offs before we will expose her to full competition."

AFLW High Performance Manager Eliza Morrison has provided this week’s injury update as the Tigers prepare to host the Western Bulldogs this Sunday.

Both Beth Lynch and Caitlin Greiser have been named as tests this week, and will be available for selection if they get through main training on Thursday.

Beth Lynch: Shoulder, Test
"Beth has successfully returned to full contact team training," Morrison said.
"If she pulls up well from main training on Thursday, she will be up for selection."

Caitlin Greiser: General Soreness, Test
"G had a few hard contests in the game that have left her quite sore," Morrison said.
"She is improving every day, and similar to Beth, if she is able to get through main training on Thursday, then she will be up for selection."

Sarah Hosking: Hamstring, 3-5 weeks
"Sarah has pulled up quite sore after her reintegration to full contact," Morrison said.
"We will take a measured approach in making sure her pain settles down before we push her towards games again."

Tessa Lavey: Hamstring, 6-8 weeks
"Unfortunately, Tessa re-injured her hamstring at training late last week," Morrison said.
"She has a large amount of chronic load behind her, so we will take our time to settle the pain and not rush her back into speed. She was back running very quickly, which is a great sign for Tessa."

Montana McKinnon: ACL, TBC
"Montana had her final tick of testing late last week," Morrison said.
"We are just waiting for a full interpretation of the results, but we are hoping for her to begin match play this week."

"Scotty was able to play through the rest of the game, and we are confident they will be available for this week."

Grace Egan: Lip, Test
"Grace suffered a lip laceration from the game. She had surgery yesterday and will be a test for this week's game," Morrison said.

Sarah Hosking: Hamstring, 1-3 weeks
"Hosko is tracking well through her progressions and will continue to progress through matchplay minutes," Morrison said.

Montana McKinnon: ACL, 1-3 weeks
"Monty made an exciting progression last weekend when she returned to matchplay minutes in scrimmage," Morrison said.
"We will continue to increase Monty's minutes and hope to have her available for AFLW selection in the next one to three weeks."

Tessa Lavey: Hamstring, 5-7 weeks
"Tessa is moving through her progressions as planned," Morrison said.
"She has been working hard on the track to tick everything off, and we hope to have her returning to drills in the next one to two weeks."

AFLW High Performance Manager Eliza Morrison has provided this week’s injury update as the Tigers head down to Casey Fields to take on the Demons on Saturday.

Grace Egan: Lip, Available
"Grace suffered a lip laceration from the Bulldogs game. She had surgery last week and will be available for selection this week," Morrison said.

Bec Miller: General Soreness, Test
"Bec had some hamstring tightness after the Western Bulldogs game. With the tight five-day turnaround last week, we didn't take any risks," Morrison said.
"We are hoping she will tick off what she needs to do this week, to be available for selection."

Katie Brennan: Knee, Test
"Katie pulled up with some knee soreness from the game. We will give her as much time as possible to settle before we test her for this week's game," Morrison said.

Sarah Hosking: Hamstring, Test
"Hosko returned to matchplay via scrimmage on the weekend and will be available for selection at AFLW level, given she completes main training this week," Morrison said.

Montana McKinnon: ACL, Test

Aoibhin Cleary: Available
"Aoibhin relocated from Ireland three weeks ago. As she has never played Australian Rules Football, we have built her up via scrimmage minutes and are now happy for her to be available for selection at AFLW level," Morrison said.

Tessa Lavey: Hamstring, 4-6 weeks
"Tessa is moving through her progressions as planned," Morrison said.

Richmond star reveals mental health battle after Smith's raw revelation

Sarah Hosking opens up on her own mental health battles on Tagged after Bailey Smith's brave interview at the AFL Awards

RICHMOND'S Sarah Hosking has praised Geelong star Bailey Smith for his bravery in opening up about his challenges with mental health during the All-Australian announcement at the AFL Awards on Thursday night.
Smith, who missed all of the 2024 season with an ACL injury, spoke honestly about the toll it had taken on him in an on-stage interview with host Mark Howard.

Hosking said that she could sympathise with Smith given her recent run with long-term injuries.

"It's been a really tough couple of years," Hosking said on this week's episode of Tagged.
"I applaud Bailey Smith ... The interview that he did earlier in the week at the All-Australian, where he mentioned that he came out of a psych ward and mentioned it for the first time in front of a room full of people.
"I just applaud him for the courage that he had to talk about it. Because if I'm completely honest, I haven't spoken about this sort of stuff very often.
"I've always been a really happy, bubbly person ... I'd turn up with a smile on my face, but then at home I really struggled. It was the first time where I've ever had mental health battles."

Sarah Hosking opens up on ‘a tough couple of years’ with her mental health, the girls go head-to-head on cross-coders, plus the goss on a new pairing

Hosking is currently rehabbing her hamstring after injuring it in last year's Dreamtime game in October. It's the second time she's injured the same hamstring, leading to an extended period on the sidelines.

"I tore my hamstring tendon from the bone twice. Essentially at times it can be a six-month injury, 12-month injury. It's really quite tedious and finicky," Hosking said.

"I had a few issues the first time around coming back and ended up opting to have surgery. That was, again, six months after I'd done the initial injury, did it again, had surgery. And then I re-did it last year in the Dreamtime match against Essendon.

"My voice has changed a little bit because it's still a bit touchy. You ride the highs and lows and try not to ride them too high or too low.

"But, I'm super excited at the moment because I'm hopefully on that outer end and towards the end and getting back to playing."

It was during an episode of Tagged last season, where things came to a head for the Richmond midfielder.

"I remember one of our shows last year and we were sitting down and we were talking and I had to take a break because I was having an anxiety attack and I've never experienced that before in my life. That essentially for me was probably my turning point," she said.

Hosking now says she is in a much better place after seeking assistance from staff at Richmond.

"The support that you have in a football club is incredible. The amount of time and effort and growth in mental health space in AFL has been phenomenal, especially in my time in football, which is nearly 10 years," Hosking said.

"I now regularly see a psych and I think it's the best thing in the world. I love our club psych, Lara, a little shout out to her because she changed my life and helped get me back on track."

Hosking's co-host, Sarah Rowe, also delves into the details of her astounding recovery from shoulder surgery and the two are joined by Hawthorn star Tilly Lucas-Rodd.

The Hawks defender discusses their three-club career and is the special guest judge in the Head and Shoulders Head-to-Head segment.

Hosko's Hot seat returns and this week Lucas-Rodd's partner Kath Ebb answers some spicy questions with some hot results.

Ellie McKenzie: Hamstring, Test
"Ellie had some hamstring soreness post our Round 4 game against Melbourne. We are waiting on scan results and will know more in the coming days," Morrison said.

Katie Brennan: Knee, Test
"Knee pain has settled well, we are hoping Katie can complete main training this week and be good to go on the weekend," Morrison said.

Tessa Lavey: Hamstring, 4-6 weeks
"Tess is tracking as planned," Morrison said.

Is that the same knee for Montana?

Yes same knee.

Montana McKinnon Injury Update

Richmond AFLW ruck Montana McKinnon will miss the remainder of the 2025 AFLW season.

Richmond confirms that AFLW ruck Montana McKinnon suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the final quarter of yesterday’s match against Geelong.

McKinnon was in her second AFLW game back from having previously undergone a reconstruction to the same knee in August last year.

The 24-year-old had also made a handful of appearances at scrimmage level while building up her fitness.

Richmond Head of Women’s Football, Kate Sheahan said it was a cruel blow for the popular figure.

“Montana has come into our program from Adelaide and brought so much with her character and energy,” Sheahan said.

“To see her suffer another serious injury like this is just so unfortunate.

“She put in an enormous amount of work behind the scenes to get back on the park, and if anyone deserved a change of luck this season, it was her.

“We’ll give ‘Monty’ every bit of support she needs to overcome this setback. The entire Club will be behind her as she works towards returning to the field again.”

McKinnon spent four seasons with Adelaide, playing 32 AFLW games before being traded to Richmond in the 2023 AFLW Trade Period.

The athletic ruck missed all of last season after rupturing her left ACL in a practice game. She played the two most recent AFLW games before the injury reoccurred.

McKinnon had a game-high 15 hit-outs on the weekend, as well as eight disposals and three tackles.

Rotten news to see another ACL for Montana. Wish her all the best in her recovery. One positive is that she won't be doing it alone having Charley Ryan and Zoe Hargreaves rehab with her.

Terrible luck for Monty. Wouldn’t surprise if she heads back to SA to be with family after her operation. That’s probably the best support. Would be tough to be around the club with half a season to go.

Grace Egan: Groin, Test

"Grace had some adductor soreness during the week," Morrison said.

"She unfortunately missed the game on the weekend, but we are hoping the symptoms have settled enough to fully train this week and be available for selection for the weekend."

Yes definitely bad luck, apparently this one was an impact injury rather than structural but still puts her career under a cloud now sadly.

Hopefully as it was a side on impact injury it won't put her career under a cloud. Bit different if it just went with a change of direction of something like that. Just real bad luck. She knew as soon as it happened what the outcome was.

Jodie Hicks: Foot, TBC

"Jodie hurt her foot in the third quarter on the weekend," Morrison said.

"She was able to play out the game, but has pulled up quite sore since. Jodie has had a scan on her foot, so we will wait for the results and be guided as to the next steps."

Tessa Lavey: Hamstring, 1-2 weeks

"Tessa has been putting in the work in the gym and on the track," Morrison said.

"She has had a few really good weeks of position-specific rehab drills, and we are looking forward to her returning to more match play in training."

AFLW Injury Report: Round 10, 2025

Two Tigers set to miss the remainder of the season.
By Richmond Media

Injury-Update.png

AFLW High Performance Manager, Eliza Morrison, provides an injury update ahead of Richmond's Round 10 clash with Collingwood at Victoria Park this Sunday.

Jodie Hicks: Foot, 2-3 weeks

“Jodie has returned to running and is progressing as planned in her return to play timeline,” Morrison said.

Tessa Lavey: Calf, Season
“Tessa had an incident in scrimmage on the weekend where she felt her calf on push off,” Morrison said.
“She was unable to complete the game. Scans have confirmed Tessa has a strain to her calf, and given the timing of the season, she will not be able to rehab in time to return to games.”

Gabby Seymour: Knee, Season
“Gabby suffered an indirect contact injury to her knee during our game vs Adelaide,” Morrison said.
“Scans have confirmed that Gabby has a partial tear to her ACL. Unfortunately, Gabby will be out for the remainder of the season.
“We are shattered for Gabby, but we know how professional Gabby is in her approach, so we have no doubt she will be back stronger than ever.”

I guess the timing of the injury means that, given Gabby is also only 27 with a few seasons still ahead of her, they will take the conservative approach and repair it surgically which will have Gabby back in time for the start of pre-season in 2026 excluding any complications. She has been unbelievably durable over her career.

If a player was going into their last season and your team was chasing glory you would probably run the gauntlet and take the non-surgical option.

Fair call. The opposite is sort true for Lavey.

Gabby played a lot of Ruck, and her durability is a credit to her. Deserves the full support of the Club, and still offers plenty if at her best.

She was a guest on The W Show and discusses it there if anyone is interested:

Here is Gabby's comments below. PS I don't think too many work harder or are fitter than Gabby and all credit to her and I'm sure she will back quickly with her dedication to get rehabbed and fit and back on the park on schedule.

Seymour provides injury update

Richmond Vice Captain, Gabby Seymour, provides an injury update on her knee.

Image 1.jpeg

Having sustained a partial tear of her ACL in the Round 8 win over Adelaide, Gabby Seymour has turned her focus to rehab in hopes of being fit and firing for next season.

“I have got a big knee brace on and I will be in that for the next couple of weeks. I actually feel like I have gotten off pretty well. When you think ACL, you think of a 12-month injury," Seymour told The W Show.

“On the spectrum, I’m right down the very minor end of the injury scale, so I’m looking at more of a three-month rehab.

“I have a lot to be grateful for in terms of all of my strength and conditioning, which has meant a lot of my fibres did hold on.

“It also means that I can get back in the gym earlier. I’m a real gym nut, so that part of it has been a blessing.”

Seymour has taken confidence in knowing that she can lean on teammate Montana McKinnon, who, unfortunately, tore her ACL again in Round 5 against the Cats, having just returned from the very same injury.

The pair are set to make a splash together this off-season as they find ways to stay active during their rehabilitation phase.

“She has gone through it over the last 12 months, and she ticked off every box that she could,” Seymour said.

“She is someone who has an absolutely phenomenal attitude. Seeing her over the last 12 months, I genuinely don’t think she has had a bad day.

“I think I will be learning from her along the way. We have talked about teeing up some swimming sessions together, so if you see us both with really strong arms next season, you’ll know the work paid off.”

The Vice Captain also shared her thoughts on her side’s clash with Collingwood this Sunday, deeming it to be a good contest between both teams.

“I think it will be a good game on the weekend, we love playing Collingwood,” Seymour said.

“Especially in Pride Round, I think Collingwood do an awesome job at that venue (Victoria Park) in creating a real vibe around the place.

“I think Collingwood, as we have seen, has had the highs of highs and some games that haven’t been so flash as well, but I think it will be an evenly matched battle.”

A positive for Richmond this season has been Sierra Grieves, who has burst on the scene in her debut campaign, already establishing herself as a major ball winner and tough competitor.

Across six games, Grieves has averaged 15 disposals and three tackles, showcasing her elite speed through the side’s midfield.

“She is pretty classy, and she makes incredible decisions with the ball in hand,” Seymour said.

“She has a really good ability to find time and space, but I think she is still working on building up her tank, and as she does that over the next couple of years, she is going to be a really important part of our midfield moving forward.

“I’m very excited about her future.”
