Preview AFLX How seriously will clubs take it?

But the thing is, people who need it have already developed short form versions of the game that are better than AFLX. The AFL, for the sake of having a new game that they can own and control, is deliberately ignoring decades of the same sort of grassroots development that gave rise to Sevens, 3x3 and futsal, in order to foist this cringeworthy incandescence upon a supporter base that largely has no interest. It's answering a question that's already been answered by shouting their answer to people who weren't asking. It's trying to counter an independent invention of T20 by selling us CricketMax. The concept itself is fundamentally flawed, presented in a way that's incredibly cringeworthy, and people will continue to point this out as long as they carry on with this fluoro failure.

You make some valid points but ultimately

1) I don't agree that the AFL shouldn't be taking the lead in establishing an elite form of a smaller field game and
2) the "shouting their answer to people who weren't asking" is just a variation of people who go out of their way to be offended about having things "shoved down their throats"

I'm looking forward to watching this years event to see how adding the extra player goes and shifting the "10 pointer" back 10 metres. These are both improvements on last year.

People who aren't interested in it don't have to watch it. But it appears the permanently outraged AFL fan sees this as another opportunity to feel outraged. I feel sorry for them

Why is it being played at Etihad?

Isn't the whole point of it that it can be played on soccer/rugby grounds?

Presumably because, at this stage, they are still developing the game and they own the thing. Presumably they'll bring the seats in

They will bend over and take AFL-X like there's no tomorrow

To the people worried about injuries. What do you think these guys do at training? The match sim at training will more likely result in injury. The players not playing will probably face a tougher more physical session.
Here’s the difference though

You have to train if you want to win. If a player gets injured while training, it’s like getting injured in game. They needed to be there or else we weren’t going to win anyway.
The players do not need to be at AFLX. If they want ‘a few extra miles in the legs’ they can go for a run, or there can be an extra training session. If players get injured doing unnecessary shit, it’s a waste.

I guess players don’t have to do it though. They would agree and be enticed by $.

Do you notice the common feature with that list of men?

That's why. It's designed as an indigenous team.

Surprised Geelong are letting Cockatoo play in this game. Guy is injury riddled at the best of times, so staggering we'd risk him in some Mickey Mouse competition in February.

And Zac Williams not selected. I wonder if he is on low money and wants the cash? I know he's always had a big upside but not sure of his contract position.

Don’t know the format of AFLX..... But if this is Eddie’s Team, whom is playing in defence?

Honestly if we send any more than fringe young players we are morons.
Why Jack Riewoldt would be risked is laughable, his pay packet aside, he shouldn't be playing this shit.
Lol if you cant make it through a 20 minute AFLX game, you probably aren't going to make it through the season.

That's completely missing the point. Of course he can do it, but there's no reason or benefit to take a risk in something no one cares about that has nothing to do with his football club training and preseason.
Best that can happen: He plays well and gets a bit of money in something hardly anyone will watch, passionately support or even remember a week later.
Worst that can happen: An innocuous incident gives a player a season ending injury.

It's simply not worth it, which is why I don't like star players from the Tigers involved.

benefit = $$$$

The drafts gonna be way more interesting than the actual play

Can't speak for other players, but I reckon Jack Riewoldt isn't in need of coin ;)
He's one of the most well looked after players around in terms of extra coin from media work, endorsements, etc.
Jeff bezos isnt retired.
