Great Start but we did that last year but fell away bad in the 2nd half of Season.

Hope that does not happen again this year

Need to remember Brisbane/Saints are both bottom 4 teams and Essendon is currently short on match fitness. It's a good start, but it's going to get much much harder when we have to come up against the Freo/Hawthorn/Sydney/Port's

If we continue to give this effort and play the kids it's going to be an enjoyable season, but don't be fooled into thinking we have arrived yet.

I didn't realize being realistic and being excited were mutually exclusive

We will still struggle to make the 8 but I'm more optimistic and excited about our future now then I was at the start of the year.

I agree but I think a big part of that decline was because we were stretched thin by injuries and our inexperienced players were burned out at the end. We'll have learned from that experience and our players will have benefited from the exposure they got.

No one is expecting us to challenge for the top 4 this season but we could lose to all of the hawks, port, swans and freo and still comfortably make the eight.

We won 11 games last year and our draw is easier this season.

Managing expectations is for accountants and economists and we all know how well they did predicting the Global Financial Crisis.
I am sure a lot of people would be far less "level headed" and circumspect had we lost 3 and were 14th on the ladder.
