Who is the better coach because according to some, Scott's record against Clarkson is better and therefore, it must relate to him being a better coach.
In my view, it's embarrassing these Geelong supporters think that way because Clarkson is quite simply one of the greatest coaches who has ever lived.

4 premierships from a coach who came in to the side when they were in a dark place vs a coach who has 1 with a team that was elite when he arrived.
Scott did a great mini-rebuild in 2015 which they only just missed finals and now they are back right in the premiership window.
Clarkson built a side almost from scratch where he went to the draft and got Roughy, Buddy and Lewis to compliment emerging players like Mitchell and Hodge who were just emerging into stars.

Clarkson is always a step ahead of the comp (Wouldn't say this year) which is what has made Hawthorn the champion team we have seen in previous years. However Clarko has made some odd decisions the last few months which have been debatable but as all us Hawks supporters say "in clarko we trust!"

This question is insulting to Clarkson.

Clarkson builds a team from scratch, coaches them to 4 flags and will go down in history as one of the games greatest coaches..

Scott inherits a champion team, milks one flag out of them and gradually erodes the list to the point where they are reliant on 2 players and have very average kids.

An insult to Clarkson TBH.

Some context as to why this thread was created.
This is an exchange from the Geelong board.
Clarkson is the type of footballing tactician who will outsmart Scott and make the game interesting on Easter Monday.

There is no doubt whatsoever that the Hawks could easily knock us off next Monday.

But even if that does happen, the evidence for Clarko being a master tactician in his contests with Scott is actually quite limited.

Record currently stands at 10-5 in favour of the 'bloke without a Plan B'.

Nobody suggested Scott is a better overall coach than Clarkson, just that the idea that Clarkson will outsmart Scott on Monday may not be accurate.

The fact that there is 1 vote for Scott his hilarious in itself. Do some Cats supports genuinely believe this?

Apparently due to Scott's 10-5 record against Clarkson, yes, yes they do.

Not only that, Clarkson is limited with his coaching moves during the games against Geelong.

In 20 years time I'm sure people will remember those home and away victories that the master tactitian Chris Scott presided over. Not the 4 flags that Clarko won :$

Chris Scott has the best win percentage of any coach in history to have coached 100 games or more.

He will coach his 150th game in Round 8 and will have the highest win percentage of any coach to have coached 150 games or more even if we happen to lose our next 5 games.

Anyone who thinks that Clarkson is a better coach than Scott is simply delusional.

His win loss records against Clarkson and his assistants:

Chris Scott 10 - Alastair Clarkson 5
Chris Scott 6 - Damien Hardwick 0
Chris Scott 3 - Luke Beveridge 0
Chris Scott 3 - Leon Cameron 1
Chris Scott 2 - Adam Simpson 1
Chris Scott 0 - Brendon Bolton 1

Overall:

Chris Scott 24 - Alastair Clarkson and his assistants 8

"Mission accomplished"?

Does Chris Scott have a great head-to-head record against Clarkson? Yes.

Is Chris Scott a better coach than Clarkson in my opinion? No.

The media and some fans it appears, have completely lost their shit over Al Clarkson and the 0-3 start to the season. Mark Williams said he should move on, Maclure said the players aren't playing for him, Thompson thinks he'll end up somewhere else in a couple of years, and so forth.

But people are also making too much of their opinions. Particularly in the case of Maclure and Thompson, these are two opinions aired on a 24 hour Footy channel. There isn't that much footy to talk about, they have to come up with something. This is inevitably the kind of content that we end up with.

Clarkson is the best coach in the AFL by a fair margin. Scott is probably around 5th at best. No comparison.

I just wonder what Clarkson would have achieved if he had Geelong's list.
I can't imagine him putting up with mediocrity from a small portion of players. He's quick to wheel the axe and he seems to find a way of getting the best out of young players.
However, like Scott, he does rate the mature recruits and has done it again with Vickery and Henderson.

One is the youngest coach to win a flag ever. The other took 9 years of failing to win a flag without Cam Mooney holding his hand. 8 or so through his coaching career, everyone including his club president was calling for him to be sacked.

Let's see where Scott sits in 2020.
