Richard Tambling. Hard to remember a more troubled, maligned player in the last five years. Given hell for what he isn't and hell for what he could be. Time to stop the trash talking and here's why:
1) They call him 'Bling'
His performances this year may not have shined but, in retrospect, he's undeniably been one of our most valuable players. Thanks to his idea of the Indigenous Learning Centre RFC is only footing half the bill for the Punt Rd. redevelopment, our financial situation? Our shiny new gym? You know exactly who to thank. Which leads me to my next point...
2) Bling is King
...or at least he leads like one. Flashback 2004, Buddy Franklin v. Richard Tambling, Undisciplened Party Animal v. Dedicated Silk Merchant. It's called an indigenous role model and he's a case in point. Right attitude, good for the community, good for the club, and good for players like Taylor.
3) Great Expectations... A Tale of Two Tamblings
Here's an idea, let's grab Jack Riewoldt and play him at Full Back. Better, let's get Will Thursfield and play him at Full Forward. Yeah, both stupid, nonsensical decisions and so is playing Tambling in a position he's not suited to, he belongs in the back pocket and Hardwick admitted it, admitted he'd played funny buggers with him. Deledio was played here there and everywhere, look how good he looks now having settled into a position.
4) Adriannnn
No, he's not Rocky Balboa Mach II. An injured AFL player does not a star make. Compartment syndrome in both legs at the start of the year means an operation and no preseason. Let's compound this with the now known fact he's been playing injured with his hip for a while now. You speak wonders of a Cotchin with a preseason, extend the same courtesy. See 2009 form as indicator.
5) One man's treasure is another man's garbage
No one wants him. He's like Abbott, everyone suggests he might get the job done but no one's willing to take a punt. A player with a settled wife and kid in Melbourne and a huge stake in the club. He can be good for us. Scrap any notions you light have that he is worth anything reasonable at the
trade table.
6) (This is the most important one)
For all you self respecting supercoachers, you've an assured first pick in Bling, first gamer price next year with plenty of scoring potential
Bottom line here. Enough with the crap talking. He's not going anywhere and judging him on an injured, out of position season is naive. Save posters the energy of typing out yet another "there there junior head pat" post by not throwing up more malignant rhetoric around Bling and his trade value.
...commence trolling.
