1. Why didn't Telstra or Optus or IInet build an NBN?
You must have missed the part where Optus and a few others volunteered to build broadband networks, WHERE THEY COULD MAKE MONEY.
If you understood Economics I could explain to you why 'nationalising' the NBN was the proper thing to do.
ALL telecommunications in this country is 'nationalised'. The simple reason is that the market for telecommunications in this country is a natural monopoly.

In the spirit of a fair go, I'd thought I'd start this off and praise the Government for the things that I think they have gotten right.

Since being elected I can think of probably 2.

The Productivity Commission (and long overdue) review into the Childcare sector was the first. I can't recall too many people inside and outside of the industry who think this is actually that bad an idea.

The second was the move to make it easier to adopt children locally and internationally. Fair bit of common sense in this one, and it's taken a long time to reach this point - even if going the whole A-List launch route might not have been the best way about it.

Caution is the better part of valour it seems as Tones makes the right call on Ebola:
