You don't fancy putting Lillee in your Aust Imports team?
I was trying to place a bit of emphasis on performances for the state.

Like that one :thumbsu:

krezja would be close to getting in... but all in all bob massie is king for that team... 16 wickets on debut ffs. only 5 people have ever done that. 4th best match figures....

although i'd have to ask people who were around then how he fell out of favour so quick. he still had 15 wickets at 34 in his next 5 matches. hardly disastrous. and his first class record of ~170 wickets at ~24.5 suggests he wasn't just a one match wonder....

O yes - forgot Krezja - good get.

Re Bob Massie - I was very young, but I do rmember he actually got dropped from the WA side at the same time - his form must have really declined. But you look at some of the Youtubes of his bowlling that test at Lords, and some of the Poms didn't have a clue.
Technically, he wasn't just a one-hit wonder - he took a 7-for against the Rest of the World in 71/72 - but that doesn't count as a test.

International Shield Import XI

Kepler Wessels (SAf / Qld)
Andrew Flower (Zim / SA) (+)
Barry Richards (SAf / SA)
Viv Richards (WI / Qld)
Brian Davison (Zim / Tas)*
Ian Botham (Eng / Qld)
Imran Khan (Pak / NSW) (c)
Richard Hadlee (NZ / Tas)
Clarrie Grimmett (NZ / SA)**
Michel Holding (WI / Tas)
Joel Garner (WI / SA)

I'm struggling for batting, I know I am missing plenty better than Davison I just can't think of them. There are too many bowlers in that side, all top shelf though. Botham would be a part-timer in that side.

*Technically, Davsion was from southern Rhodesia at the time and not Zimbabwe
**Not sure if Grimmett qualifies, this eleven is for those who played first class cricket elsewhere before Australia. I don't think Grimmett moved for cricket reasons, so while he migrated was he "imported"?

Alan Knott played for Tasmania, but I think that was pre-Shield.

As others are suggested, I'll edit just to show how bad my import knowledge and memory was.

I reckon a bloke called Sobers might get a gig. ;)

Knott did indeed play for Tassie pre-shield. As did Rohan Kanhai, who also played for WA, and Indian test cricketer Billy Ibadulla. I also recall an English county keeper called Rod Cass playing for Tassie pre-shield, along with English fast bowler Peter Lever and Pakistani opener Sadiq Mohammed.

If you didn't want to include Grimmett, you could have either Lance Gibbs or Tony "Dodgy Action" Lock as the spinner.

As for the batting, in addition to Sobers, you've got Majid Khan (Pakistan), John Hampshire (Tas), Tom Graveney (Qld), Rohan Kanhai (WA), Graeme Hick (Qld), Alvin Kallicharan (Qld) to name a few.

There's still some handy fast bowling that didn't make it too. Andy Roberts (NSW), Wes Hall (Qld), Patrick Patterson, Winston Davis and Franklyn Stephenson (Tas), Gladstone Small (SA).

And a couple of useful all-rounders in Rusi Surti (Qld) - recently deceased (RIP) and Tassie's first ever Shield captain "Flat Jack" Simmons.

Easily enough for two sides in all that lot. The only thing really lacking is a top notch keeper, you'd have to go with Flower and Kanhai over the two sides.
