If that's true then great, but I still feel a bit shafted giving up 24 rather than our second round pick.

Let's look at it this way.

24 was free thanks to Sydney (and the ingenuity of our team helping them 'park' their pick last year).

We were happy to give a future first last year (and are this year) just not in addition to 3 x 2nd round picks

So essentially for our trading team over the 2 year period we now end up with a future 1st (hopefully 19 before further compensation or priority picks) plus a downgrade of 14 to 36. That looks a bargain (I know Geelong get more, as is fair, just pointing out that 24 is essentially free to us).

If we win the premiership it's seen as a masterstroke. Swing for the fences!

If we don't then we sacrifice grabbing a shuey or ryan in future drafts. Seems a lot but I would back our team to get a couple quality back flankers in the draft

We did, and I’m happy to use it in securing Kelly, but ultimately it is still an asset we could use in other ways.

You can be happy it goes in the Kelly trade but “easy come, easy go” isn’t strictly the right approach to these picks.

I'm sure we'll get a decent enough pick/s back from them along with Kelly.

If we give up all of 2019 first, 2020 first, 24 and 33, would we be hoping to get 36 and maybe geelong's future second back? I feel like we'd want to still have at least a small presence in the the second round of the next two drafts.

All things being even, thats a flag winning team.

Remember you guys win the flag in 2020, it doesnt matter what Kelly costs you.

Think of the Dogs with Boyd in 2016. Its worth it.

Points value alone, 14+18(2020 1st)+24+33 = more points value than Freo's 6+7.
