I met a few over there that I kept in touch with when holidaying in the States and they were exremely friendly. Of course there are good and bad in every race/nationality.

you can't really generalise about a whole nation...
but sometimes i jsut get annoyed at their arrogance as a whole (not saying that ALL americans are arrogant)
and they have done alot of ****ed up stuf in the past...

They're OK, American's are no worse, or no better than any other nationality.

The only beef I have with them (Americans) is with thier current federal administration (George W Bush's).

BF has some great Yanks as members, all are top people who love their footy, so have to say I view them as fantastic people.
Special mention to Stealth Bomber, Chicago 1 & Mooster, I know there are more but I can't remember their names, sorry peoples.

Agreed!

They are pigheaded as well!

This is what sums it up for me. Those Americans on this forum might learn something about how many people perceive the average American:

When the Olympics were on, I was listening to an American on the radio. He said something along the lines like this, "When we meet you Aussies in America, you are so easy going and never have a bad word to say about Americans or America (USA). I was surprised when I came down here that there is this anti-American feeling. Australians just bag Americans all the time. It's not our fault that we are the best sporting country in the world, the best at this, the best at that etc". He was all serious too.

This guy just missed the whole point entirely. The reason a lot of people don't like Americans is because they think like this guy. Most people from any country will generally believe that they are from a great country, proud of it, and wouldn't want to be brought up anywhere else. On the other hand, Americans (generally) believe not only that they are from the best country, but they think everyone else thinks America is the best country too.

I personally think Australia is the best country, but I wouldn't expect ANY non-Australian to agree with me.

Food for thought for any Yanks reading this.

.. two names that spring to mind when I think about the misery theyve inflicted on the planet.

A minutes silence for 3000 Americans killed.. 15000 Turks die and nothing.

I hate the way that Americans are supposed to be treated with such reverence by the rest of the world.

Who made them the policemen of the planet?

Most Americans aren't that much different to most Australians.

And I can't think of a world leader I'd rather invite to the footy (and have a beer with after the game) than George W. Bush.

Given the crazy people who are running some countries, you'd have to say the US Government is doing an outstanding job. Better Bush and Powell than that mongrel Sharon.

....pretty much sums up my view!

I've met some friendly Americans, all in all most Americans are like us, the only real difference I've found is that some Americans seem to be more abrupt than the average Aussie though I've mainly been to larger cities so that probably explains it more than anything else. Haven't been to the Midwest I've heard that the people are very friendly there.

The main gripe I have with the States are their Government - at times makes short-sighted decisions which backfire - and the power which it controls across the world. Another gripe is that some Americans seem to be insular - highlighted by the fact that George W had only been north and south of the border before becoming El Presidente. The only advice I'd have for insular Americans is to travel more, there's a great world out there! By the way I don't believe any of our American BF posters are insular since if they were they wouldn't be on an Australian Football forum!

You don't have to tell me there are idiots living in the US. I can't drive 2 miles, or go shopping without saying, "Jeez look at that idiot." or, "Did you hear what that jack-ass just said?" Don't get me started on the way those brain-dead Kansans drive.

I'm sure it's the same everywhere. It embarrasses me to read a story of an American visiting the Sydney Olympics asking if there are freakin' kangaroos hopping down the street. At the same time, you guys read Bigfooty. You ever read an equally idiotic comment on here from one of your own countrymen? ;)

Australians and Americans are very similar from what I've found. I'm often amused at the subtle cultural differences I find in reading your posts. These differences aren't really anything that I could explain, but they stand out to Yank eyes.

To make a point, I've been amazed at finding that Tigertank and I are more alike than most Americans I've met - to include close life-long friends. That from half a world away. Still, there are many differences between us. Most notable is his inability to judge a good-looking tank if it shot him in the ass. :D

Oh, and let me give credit to all of you for having developed a very righteous form of football. I'm honored to share in it (in an adopted sense). Peace/ GO TIGES!

I have no problem with them, it's just that sometimes, I don't know if this is the right word to use, but sometime's they are a bit over the top, and arrogant, but of course you get that in every country, even here.

Last time I was in America I remember meeting up with my cousins and going to one of their school plays. When they all stood and sang the national anthem, he asked me why I wasn't singing. When I told him I didn't know the words, he looked at me in shock. He thought it was sort of a national anthem for the WORLD, not just the country  Things like that - ignorance - really gets to me, but as it's been said, there's people like that in every country.

I dont mind em.

Always have a ball in the states. Good fun people Ive always found.

The only thing I notice is that they seem a bit sheltered - their ignorance (generalisation) about the rest of the world is pretty amazing, but, having travelled Europe/America/Sth America - I think Australians are the most knowledgable about foreign issues/countries etc.

Obviously, its due to our geographic position - everywhere is overseas and a fair way away for us. At school for instance simply learning about Australia isnt enough- we learn a bit about everywhere. It seems most yanks know the Americas, and the Americas only! lol

They have their idiots - but dont worry, we have our fair share as well!

Only one country in my travels did the people stand out - that was in France. From my experience, total f*ckwits! Im sure some of em, somewhere, are ok tho!

South Americans on the whole are really cool people!!

Was in the merchant navy and visited the US a few times (briefly)\
On first impressions they have city areas (industrial and slums) which are soem of the worst on earth I have visited some other countries too. This is over ten years ago mind you.

As a non american you grow up with a view of the US as shown by hollywood. But looka t a gfew travel shows and the countryside (not the slums) must be soem of the most beautiful on earth.

But on sept 11, after absorbing thre horror of thousands dying in an incident (which is not rare these days), my next thought was "I hope america can control it's anger" which seemed to me to be a bigger threat to world peace than more terrorism. You have to admit that the US has dropped a helluva lot of bombs on the rest of the world (not just 'enemies') and sold a lot of weapons of all sorts to some of the maveric rejimes we are talking about.

One other thing strikes me. The US has a bigger dbt than any other country, appears to have trade protection and poor productivity within, yet manages to control who does what in the business world. It's ideas seem to come from imported brains paid for by borrowed money which are manufacures in low wage countries. This allows the US to keep itself armed to the teeth so no-one really challenges the irony.

Sounds a bit like Ancient Rome. How long did that last again ?
