An Email From The Club.

I sent a nasty email to headquarters. I wont go into detail, it might bore ya.

My heading was something like this " Insipid Crap "

Then i went on to type..........." This is rubbish, i'm sick of this " as i do, very vague.

I was delirious from the Crows loss, and didn't expect anything back.

But a certain Nick Smith sent me an email saying this on behalf of the club.

" Dissapointed with this weekends loss, but we are still in the eight on points. Mark and the boys are endeavoring, to turn things around and this season isn't lost. We are working hard to turn things around, and hope we see results against Hawthorn. We also hope that all of our supporters turn up and keep on supporting Port Adelaide, as it's a home game. "

I got the same generic response, spelling mistakes and all.

Ive never before fired an email off to anywhere in anger but i couldnt hold back after sundays non event.

Me too - wrote a similar e-mail to them on Sunday - no swearing or cursing just made it clear the current coaching and playing group had lost my confidence equally and would continue struggle to bring people to the footy based on the performances in 4 of the past 5 years. Also highlighted my concerns at the lack of development of a list of 20-25 yo players.

Mr Smith gave me the same generic response.

I actually feel sorry for Nick Smith. He's doing his job and reading through all those abusive emails.

He must feel like this guy:

I think that Nick is a great bloke (yes i do know him).

he is only doing his job. If u get 2000 emails about the same issue are you going to give everyone an individual response or will you give the clubs point of view on the matter. I would not see it as a cost effective measure to give everyone their own reponse on the matter. Don't forget we are a club struggling with finances.

Agree. Nick is a Customer Relations Consultant (Sales). As much as he would probably like to write back,

"I totally agree and I am fed up with this rubbish. I am marching straight up to Choco's office and am going to ram all of the abusive emails I've received from fans down his throat."

He just can't. When you are paid to defend the indefensible it can be a soul destroying job.

I dont have much of a problem with a generic email being sent. Hes only doing his job and he probably isnt involved enough to give specific answers on questions anyway without asking around and wasting time.

Try sending one directly to Haysman and you may get a specific response. I remember writing an email to Bucky in 2000 about some issues at the time, didnt get a reply and didnt think much of it until he rang me on a Sunday night about a month later and spoke for about 20 minutes about the issues I raised. Couldnt believe it.

That's what I would do. Don't send an email to a generic address- rather straight to the top. Or (old-fashioned, I know), put it in writing and post it to the Club.

What is important, I think, is that the passionate supporters here do continue to show our anger at the way OUR Club is being represented on-field. It is all well and good for us to vent frustrations here in this forum, but our voices will be better heard by continuing to let the President and CEO know our feelings and concerns.

It is great, isn't it? I was interested to read that because I have had similar experiences with Steven Trigg.

Until now I thought it was just a Crows thing but apparently it's an SA thing

I wonder how many CEOs of Victorian clubs would talk directly to their supporters in this way?

I've found Port Adelaide have always been good in that way. Bucky, John James and even back in the dark ages, Jim Nitschke, have all responded personally to various missives I've sent.

Instead of each of us sending 100's of emails, couldn't we have one single petition signed by the members and hand delivered to Port Adelaide Football Club mentioning what everyone has expressed.

Also, make a special annoucement to the media that we Port supporters are demand answers and changes to improve our performances.

Perhaps this may change some performances of staff and players.

Some years back I sent an email to the club venting my spleen over the behaviour of one player directed towards my wife when the players were on their mid season piss up, sorry, break. I didn't expect to hear anything but it made me feel better at the time. A few nights later Hitaf rang me and spoke to me for probably 30 minutes.
