Andrejs on the chopping block?

Do you know the price difference between the offers from Sydney to GWS? Is it 50k or are we talking 100k+ difference? If it was only 50k, I'm sure had Buddy not arrived that it wouldn't have been a problem making up the difference. What I got from the Bloods Culture was that it was a really tight knit group. From an outside point of view it looks like that has been strained a little bit.

Reports are Lamb was offered somewhere between 2-4 times what we were offering. Mumford was offered $650,000 a year. While I don't know what we offered, I'd have been very upset if we'd offered him that amount of money just to keep him. Basically, GWS threw ridiculous amounts of money at a couple of Swans players to poach them. Which is fair enough, they've got the extra cap in the short term, might as well spend it.

No issues with clubs leaving for better opportunities. Lamb would have worked into your best 22 in the next year or two though wouldn't he? he's basically saying he would prefer to be playing his best years at GWS rather than Sydney (money of course would be a pretty big factor as well).

Possibly. Keep in mind that when finals time arrived, he had dropped behind Cunningham, Biggs and Brandon Jack, not to mention all the other midfielders we have. If we have a relatively decent injury run next year, there's a very real chance he wouldn't have played much senior footy at all. GWS offered him some amazing money and a chance to play football every week. Who wouldn't take it? I don't begrudge him (or Mumford) at all.

So you're thinking
In: 32 and 53
Out: Everitt and 39

Which is basically my original thought with 53 thrown in which we'll probably not use.

No, I meant 53 instead of 39. Carlton would probably insist on 44 from that point, but hopefully not.

IN: 32
OUT: Everitt and 39(their offer)/53(our offer)/44(compromise)

I saw on the trade rumours site on fb that he has nominated the eagles

For what it's worth that site gets a few right and a lot more wrong.

What's he worth to you guys? Have you got a highlights reel I could watch

Cheers

Carlton have confirmed that he has nominated us.

Fair enough. I assume that's some kind of 'payback' for the Buddy fiasco. As you say, good on them.

With some of your aging midfielders though (o'keefe etc) an opportunity would have opened up with a bit of patience. Personally I'd prefer to play for the swans over the giants even on a lesser pay packet. I guess he wasn't as good as I thought he was so no big loss I guess.

Rumours (I know, I know) that West Coast are trying to use their recently acquired 43 to get Bootsma from Carlton and maybe that will come into play with the Andrejs trade.

I'm going to be fuming if we lose Everitt, Lamb and Mumford all for mid-range draft picks. I want to see a new Swans player today.

There is talk on the WCE board of the following trade:

Bootsma to Eagles
Everitt to Blues
Pick 43 to Swans

I personally don't see it. We could organise the Everitt trade and still keep Bootsma without involving them at all.

When you're a 21 year old who's only played 12 games over 3 years and has had injury and consistency issues, $1m over 3 years with an almost-guaranteed game each week (read: match bonuses) is a chance you just can't turn down.

25 years old , next year is make or break for Everitt regardless of where he plays and I still think the coaching staff would select AJ , Shaw , LRT before him in 2014 , cant see them running around in the NEAFL. Everitt has been in out in out and with them blokes back Everitt would no that going to Carlton he will get more games than staying with us and I no he is a good depth player and that Shaw is 33 and LRT 30 but you cant expect Everitt to hang around and wait when he has been offerd senior footy some where else.

Pretty much. I would have loved to keep him, and didn't think he'd be chased too hard by other clubs, but Carlton clearly see him as a best 22 player so there's not much we can do.

I completely agree. I would have liked to have kept him around as depth for next year and as an option once Shaw/Malceski etc are gone but moving to another club would be the best thing for his career right now.

Well Everitt is gone to Carlton, now just have to see what we get.

god I hope Smith is safe from the blood letting. His name is being thrown around on afl site as well.

His name has been thrown around all trade period, yet every single quote from list managers have been "Smith hasn't come up". It's just journos with no other names to work with. Notice that while Armstrong and Everitt were "up in the air", the Smith rumours disappeared and focus was on them. Now that Armstrong is going to the Pies and Everitt to the Blues, they need a Swans rumour again, so Smith comes up.

I sincerely hope you're right Barney. I hate these type of rumours...

As far as aging mids go, okeefe is now about the only one other than mcveigh who still has 4-5 years left and we have Cunningham, Lloyd, B Jack, Perris, Robinson etc in line and this losing Lamb is not our greatest concern.
Our focus needs to turn to the half back line with hopefully the likes of Biggs, Lockyer, Cunningham etc playing roles and KPD.

So there were no guarantees for Lamb.

We are going to get shafted on both lamb and everitt. If i was GWS and Carlton, id just offer the lowest pick possible ... there is nothing we can do about it.

Thing is mate those very three players are coming off significant injuries we don't know if Shaw will even make it or how much impact could LRT, AJ have in 2014.

I was sure there were more but I honestly can't think of anyone else. I thought Mcveigh but then thought he just looks old and probably is only late 20's. Your midfield is in excellent shape :thumbsu:

Regardless mate if fit they play , u cant expect Everitt to wait and see what happens with them when he has been offerd games some where else
