CARLTON'S four-day trip into the "unknown" is another step in the club's push for finals action in 2009.
It began on Tuesday under the orders of a group named Stealth Development and has included a series of demands that yesterday rendered the group of 37 virtually speechless at a scout centre near Anglesea.
The camp included players being given briefings on how and where to find food and shelter for their first evening.
Peter Wickham of Stealth Development said the Carlton group showed "marked improvement" yesterday after a slow start on Tuesday.
"What do they say? We are dealing with the Y Generation who question everything," Wickham said.
"It takes a while for them to get back to the good old-fashioned core values and to listen and learn."
Yesterday afternoon, after being awoken in the middle of the night for physical training, the Blues were force-marched to Point Addis beach, where their orders included an exercise known as milling.
Milling involves two players trading body punches for one minute, while locked in a circle by their teammates.
"It's all about fortitude, leadership and teamwork. One of our exercises involves holding your arms out horizontally for as long as you can," Wickham said.
"It sounds easy, but give it a try. Some of the elite can push up towards 30 minutes, but most of the Carlton guys were around 10 minutes."
Today the Blues will abseil and rock climb at Halls Gap.
Carlton's four recruits from last weekend's national draft, Chris Yarran, Rhys O'Keefe, Caleb Tiller and Mitch Robinson, joined the group yesterday.
