Just read on the AFL board that Ricciuto is set to miss 4 weeks with an ankle injury. This is definetly not good news. The following regulars will not play against the powder on saturday:

Wayne Carey, Mark Ricciuto, Mark Bickley and Scott Welsh.

With Ricciuto, Bickley missing and cloud over Goodwin, our midfield rotation lacks some experience and is not as potent as I would have liked to be against the powder.

Thought??????

Is there anything in the fact that Ricciuto is missing another Pork Power game or is it coincidental?

Surely he can contain himself from driving the Carr again!

Injuries are starting to mount up. Thankfully we play 5 softer teams first up.;) so our second tier replacements may get thier chance earlier than they bargained for.

I thought it a rather odd coincidence myself.....I'm sure it's nothing more than that ;)

p.s. Inaugural invasion post :)

Good news is that Goodwin may be available to take Roos spot. The injury to Roo may have also improved Mattner's chances if Goody cant make it.

Its a bit of a concern that our players are breaking down before the season even starts. However, I guess its best to have these things out of the way before the start of the season. My concern with this is that a lot of those players a will not be match fit by round 1:(

Its very disapointing that the 'Roo' wont be playing but once again and as already mentioned it's the Wok Cup,gives a younger player a chance to show there stuff,I agree with Jerome Mattner would a be a good replacement:D If we win good on us I hope we do:D But if we dont well let the Powder have another Wok Cup that means SFA and we will go get ourselves another Premiership:D ;)

Stiffy, it doesn't matter who's missing and who's not for the next 5 weeks mate - there's no premiership points for the Wizard Wok. On the contrary, it forces us to try other options or might even help another good young player to take the next step during the 4 matches wherever they are played.

For example, Torney played centre against the Eagles last Friday for the 1st 2 quarters and was superb at either getting the ball out of the middle or shutting down the opposition if it was directed to them. He showed that he is another option in the mid-field if the others aren't firing.

Roo's injury isn't a bad one - Trevor Jacques said tonight that he could have played on with it but that they are using this 5 week hiatus period before the season proper to get him 100% for when it counts.

However we certainly don't want any new injuries in the matches to come. Our pre-season has been disjointed enough already with injury. :(

I agree with that macca23 but the point I was trying to make is that we will be missing 2 top quality midfielder in Ricciuto and Bickley and 2 top quality forwards in Carey and Welsh. We can replace all those players but the ones that come in for them are not of the same quality as the ones missing.

Considering that the powder will be at full strength and we will be somewhat depleted it will be very tough to get a win. This game is a bit iffy from my point of view but it doesn't mean that we cannot win. But as I said it will be a very tough ask considering the playersw we are missing.

It will now be very hard for us to win this match, assuming we are playing a basically full strength Power.

Whilst this is not ideal, we must be right for Round 1 when it really matters. It also give us no excuse not to blood some of the youngsters, which will be of benefit to us later on.

If they win, the Power will have the bragging rights, but their supporters will be aware by now of the value of Wizard Cup bragging rights.

I really don't think Adelaide would win even if Tredrea, Francou and Wanganeen were out.

Brag schmag. I really don't think most of us give a toss about the Wizard cup. As you say, we now know it means little. As Porthos wrote (and I loved it) "If we win another Wizrd cup I'll throw up". And the reason we won't be bragging (well, maybe just a little ;)), is because we are really OVER beating the Crows. It's gettin' a little boring. Beating you in the Wok Cup is even more of a yawn. And with three of your best players out - just give me a nudge when it's over. I'll be the one snoring over my keyboard.

Lets hope Jacques isnt speaking with fork tongue.
Come to think of it, its the first time Ive seen Trev talk on such issues; usually its someone else:confused:

Nah. But vomiting over your keyboard...now there's a sign of disrespect ;)

Unless you are a 'Salary man' after a night on the **** - then its probably seen as a bage of honour :)

Some injury management news regarding the Crows from tonights news bulletins:

Channel 9 reported that the Crows injury management plan for Carey might involve him playing 18/22 games no matter if he is injured or not. The restricted program during the season should help keep him fresh during the season and may prolong his football life.

I can see where they are coming from, the footy season is a marathon not a sprint (this is a concept that seems to be lost on the carey bashers atm)

If this happens, we'd better have a decent back up FF. I'll be keen to see who gets the gig this week. If it doesnt, its another Carey story that'll have everyone talking about Wayne and ignoring Stevo....just how I like it.

First things first, they should be concentrating on getting him right for the start of the minor round.

Channel 9 reports that part of Mark Bickley's injury management plan may involve playing for South Adelaide. Bicks hasnt played there since 1993.

I saw that too Jerome and it seems as a sensible idea. I think the likes of Hentschel and Rutten will get a go during the season if injury and form allows them. I think also Bassett will spend time as FF and maybe Rutten as a FB.

RE: Bickley, I think Bicks will probably benefit from a couple of hit outs South and be ready for round 1. Besides if he has trouble getting back into the side it will mean than one of the young fellas is performing and the side is winning.:D
