AFL Club
Essendon
Apologies in advance if my comments suggest that I have any idea what club's are actually thinking :)

1…MEL…Jack Watts…KF…VIC…196cms
Melbourne need something special up forward and Watts has the class and presence to be a marquee forward for the next decade plus. Won’t replace Neitz right away though.

2…WCE…Nick Naitanui…R…WA…201cms

AFL football may never see a better athlete. West Coast will have some work to do to get him up to scratch in some skill areas, but all the tools are there. Daniel Rich is their alternative.

3…FRE…Daniel Rich…M…WA…183cms
Inside ball winner and thumping kick. Yarran and Hill are in the mix, but conventional thinking has Rich as the Dockers 1st pick.

4…PTA…Tyrone Vickery…R/KF…VIC…200cms
Perfect fit and best available. Looks destined to become all that Lade has already been and maybe a little bit more. Hartlett, Ziebell and Hurley may tempt Port to go in a different direction.

5…ESS…Hamish Hartlett…M…SA…182cms

Traditionally, the Dons prefer talls or utilities ahead of genuine midfielders, so the selection of Hartlett might surprise. Have also been linked with Ziebell, Hurley, Yarran and Hill.

6…CAR…Michael Hurley…KD…VIC…192cms
Powerhouse defender who rebounds brilliantly and can swing forward and kick goals. A good key forward might be a bigger priority, but Hurley is better than any that are available.

7…BRL…Jack Ziebell…M…VIC…188cms
Versatile and hard at it. Can play just about anywhere and Voss might see a little of himself in him. Hartlett, Swift and Yarran might also come under consideration.

8…RIC…Chris Yarran…F…WA…180cms
Naturally skilled, great goal-sense and brilliant vision and awareness. Will nestle in well with the likes of Deledio, Cotchin, Foley and Tambling…Richmond may soon do some damage in September.

9…KAN…Stephen Hill…M…WA…182cms
An outside midfielder who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. He's skinny, speedy and skilful and could form a great midfield double-act with Daniel Wells. Lewis Johnston also a chance here.

10…ADL…Jackson Trengove…KP…VIC…197cms

The Crows might prefer to go with the best available midfielder, but Trengove is too impressive a KPP to ignore. Tall and athletic, but can also play football.

11…COL…Steele Sidebottom…M…VIC…182cms
An extra yard of pace would make Steele a top 5 pick. Has top notch skills and finds the footy with ease. The riskier Swift might also be in Collingwood's sights.

12…SYD…Lewis Johnston…KF…SA…192cms
Johnston presents well and has a bit of flair about him. Hall & O'Loughlin are on their last legs and the Swans need some class height up forward. Mckernan might also be an option.

13…STK…Tom Swift…M…WA…190cms
Could he be the best player in this draft? Who knows? The Saints need an injection of midfield class and Swift has it all…or at least had it all as a 15/16 year old. I think he's worth the risk.

14…WBD…Ayce Cordy…R…VIC…202cms (F/S)
Pick 14 is just about right for Ayce, but injury free, a top 10 or top 5 pick may have reflected his true value. Needs to add some weight.

15…GEE…Shaun McKernan…R/KF…VIC…196cms
A clone of his brother who competes well as a ruckman or forward. Mooney and Ottens won't be around forever, so Shaun would be a nice selection.

16…HAW…Phil Davis…KP…SA…193cms
A good key defender is priority 1 for the Hawks, so Davis should be on their radar. He's also linked to the Crows at pick 10. Pelchan says they’ll draft for needs in the first 2 rounds.

17…MEL…Mitch Robinson…M…TAS…188cms
Strong, ready made midfielder with few weaknesses. Dees will like that he can make an immediate impact.

18…WCE…Sam Blease…M…VIC…183cms
Skinny, but seriously speedy wingman, with a lethal boot on him. Would add another dimension to the West Coast midfield. Can do damage with few touches.

19…MEL…Michael Walters…M…WA…177cms

Silky skilled midfielder/forward who regularly hits targets. Represented WA brilliantly at both u16 and u18 level.

20…WCE…Dan Hannebery…M…VIC…182cms

Bottom-ager with crisp skills and good awareness. Any sliding local boys e.g. Walters, Swift, Hill or Yarran would most likely be on their radar for this pick.

21…FRE…James Strauss…M…VIC…185cms

A fairly complete player, who uses the ball well, runs hard and can play multiple positions. Along with Palmer, Rich and Ibbotson, the Dockers midfield is starting to take shape.

22…PTA…Jordan Lisle…KD…VIC…196cms

Good defender or forward at u18 level. Skills are generally good, but makes the odd decision-making error.

23…ESS…Jayden Post…KP…VIC…195cms

If the Dons overlook Hurley, a KPP should be in their plans. Could go anywhere from the late teens to the rookie draft, but has a great range of attributes and many clubs will consider him.

24…FRE…Mitch Brown…KF…VIC…193cms
Hasn't had the TAC Cup exposure that others have had, but has some serious talent. The Dockers already have KF's in Murphy and Campbell, but both have struggled to become regulars thus far.

25…BRL…Adam Cockie…M…WA…182cms
He's quick and tough and has nice skills. Could be available later, but a few clubs are said to be keen.

26…RIC…Tom Lynch…KP…VIC…191cms
Great all-rounder. Presents well across half forward, but is also very good defensively. Is he a KPP or a 3rd tall though?

27…KAN…Nick Suban…D…VIC…179cms
Strong and aggressive, but not overly fast. A very good kick that rebounds well off halfback and could be a mini-Luke Hodge sort of player.

28…ADL…Rhys O'Keeffe…D…SA…187cms

Reminds of Bryce Gibbs. Plays midfield or half back. His skills are good and he gets from A to B quite nicely without having a massive amount of pace. Local product.

29…COL…Dayne Beams…M…QLD…184cms
Seems a class above most of his QLD peers. Works hard through the midfield, takes a strong grab and has good skills.

30…SYD…Jordan Roughead…R…VIC…200cms
With Everitt gone, a ruckman should be targeted by the Swans in this draft. They only have 3 picks and Roughead seems a likely 2nd rounder.

31…WBD…Nick Heyne…F…VIC…187cms

A forward with sticky hands, but can also play in the midfield.

32…WBD…Lance Daly…KF…WA…191cms

Bottom-aged. Strong marking, genuine FF. Leading goal kicker in the WAFL Colts in 2008.

33…GEE…Will Young…KP…VIC…192cms
Scarlett, Harley, Milburn etc aren't getting any younger and the Cats need to find their next generation of defenders. Young is a good athlete, tough and pretty versatile. He can also play forward.

34…HAW…Alistair Smith…M…WA…185cms
Had some injuries this year, but has good pace and is a good ball winner.

35…MEL…Bart McCulloch…R…TAS…199cms

Fast and agile aren’t terms you'd usually use to describe a ruckman, but McCulloch is a super athlete and looks very versatile too.

36…WCE…Jarrad Blight…D…WA…192cms
Could be a bargain. He has ok pace and is a long kick. Mostly plays at half back and had a massive second half of 2008 in the WAFL Colts.

37…FRE…Aaron Cornelius…KF…TAS…192cms
Nice soft hands and has been very good for Tassie over the last 2 years.

38…PTA…Rory Sloane…M…VIC…182cms

Excellent player at TAC Cup level over the last 2 years. Played well for Vic Metro as a small defender, but has clean skills and pace and should become a good AFL midfielder.

39…GEE…Matthew Broadbent…D…SA…189cms

Utility with good skills, even in heavy traffic.

40…CAR…Ryan Schoenmakers…KF…SA…193cms

Could go higher, but would be a great fit for the Blues if he lasts until this selection.

41…BRL…Liam Anthony…M…WA…187cms
Prolific ball winner and goal kicking midfielder in the WAFL. Slightly mature-aged at 21 and should make an immediate impact.

42…PTA…David Zaharakis…M…VIC…180cms

Goal kicking midfielder who should get a shot after being overlooked last year.

43…KAN…Hayden Ballantyne…F…WA…174cms
Blitzed in the WAFL with 75 goals and the Sandover medal in 2008. The Roos will see a bit of Brent Harvey in him, both in terms of size and style.

44…ADL…Casey Sibosado…KP…NT…193cms

Very versatile utility or KPP. Linked to Sydney and Adelaide and likened by some to Adam Goodes.

45…COL…Zach Sengstock…KD…VIC…191cms
Tall flanker or CHB with very sure hands. Adds to Collingwood's tall defensive stocks.

46…COL…Neville Jetta…F…WA…178cms

Gun player and excellent ball-winner at Colts level and should be a good player once he adds some size. I expect him to slide a fair bit.

47…STK…Jarrad Redden…R…SA…202cms

SA's no. 1 young ruckman. Not as athletic as some of the other big guys, but has sound skills. A ruckman might not be a huge priority for the Saints, but King and Gardiner don't have long to go…and Rix has been let go.

48…STK…Riley Milne…KD…VIC…192cms
Should in time become a key defender, but is still very light and looks suited to a 3rd tall or attacking HBF role.

49…GEE…Charlie Sharples…M…NT…180cms
Quick, but not blistering and skilful without having any real x-factor about him. Has some class and kicks goals. Had a good year in the SANFL in 2008.

50…HAW…Ashley Smith…M…VIC…185cms
Excellent long kick and has good speed. Draft camp results were good and he could well go earlier.

51…MEL…Ian Richardson…F…WA…180cms
Too good for the WAFL and should slot into a forward pocket almost immediately.

52…WCE…Matthew Martin…KD…SA…196cms

Played senior footy in the SANFL in the last 3rd of the year and showed a bit. Can play at either end, but the Eagles might look to develop him as a defender.

53…FRE…Daniel Murray…R…WA…200cms
Good aggressive big man who essentially restocks Freo's ruck department after Warnock's departure. Kicking isn’t the best.

54…PTA…Steven Motlop…F…NT…182cms

Very similar player to big bro Daniel. Can run and carry well, without being explosive and takes a good grab. If Choco really wants him, Port might have to pull the trigger a little sooner.

55…ESS…Tom Allwright…M…TAS…185cms
Seems ready-made and does everything alright…excuse the bad pun.

56…FRE…Jaime Sheahan…M…VIC…178cms
Midfielder or small forward who wins plenty of the ball.

57…BRL…Clancee Pearce…D…WA…183cms
His competitiveness and leadership potential cannot be denied, but I think he'll slide.

58…RIC…Kade Klemke…D…NSW…180cms
Tough defender/midfield with solid skills.

59…KAN…Tyson Slattery…D…SA…189cms
Not a great kick, but a good competitor. Good size too and suited to a back pocket or half back flank.

60…ADL…Mitchell Banner…M…VIC…178cms
Drifts in and out games, but is and pretty good package all round and should be able to improve his consistency.

61…SYD…Luke Shuey…M…VIC…185cms
Genuine inside midfielder. His kicking isn’t the best, but his head over the ball style suits the Swans.

62…STK…Paul Cahill…KF…SA…192cms
Tall forward who wasn't outstanding in the u18 National Champs, but had his moments.

63…HAW…Tom Hislop…M…ESS…186cms

Rugged inside midfielder with discipline issues, but Hawthorn seemed keen during trade week and Tom should get another crack at it.

64…MEL…Taylor Gilchrist…M…VIC…189cms
Tall and versatile midfielder or utility with good disposal.

65…CAR…Jason Davenport…M…GEE…185cms
Ex-Cat Davenport deserves another shot. His disposal isn't perfect, but he's a good ball carrier and wins heaps of it at VFL level. Geelong's midfield was just too hard to crack.

66…PTA…Michael Still…KF…VIC…192cms
Strong marking key forward.

67…ESS…Zachary Clarke…R…VIC…203cms
A real project that’ll need some time. His skills are good, but needs to approach ruck contests with more authority.

68…FRE…Matt Deboer…M…WA…187cms
Poor skills at times, but accumulates possessions at will.

69…BRL…Steve Gaertner…KD…VIC…198cms
Might slide to the rookie draft, but is a top athlete and has all the attributes to play at CHB.

70…RIC…Tom Hill…R/KF…VIC…199cms
Another project ruckman with nice skills. Bottom aged and needs some time to develop.

71…KAN…Liam Jones…KF…TAS…192cms

Strong marking bottom-aged key forward.

72…ADL…Chris Hall…F…SA…179cms
Slick and slender small forward with pace.

73…COL…Tom Simpkin…D…VIC…190cms

Defender or wingman standing at a versatile 190cms.

74…STK…Luke Rounds…M…VIC…181cms
Bottom-aged midfielder who tested well at the state screening and has some class.

75…HAW…Alex Stoop…D…SA…189cms
Sturdy tallish defender.

76…MEL…PASS

Pass to claim the no 1 PSD pick.

77…FRE…PASS

Pass for PSD pick.

78…PTA…Tom Rockcliff…F…VIC…183cms
Paul Medhust type who could become a good midfielder with the right training and work ethic.

79…ESS…PASS
Pass for PSD pick.

80…CAR…Caleb Tiller…F…VIC…187cms
Bottom-aged and will need a year or two to fill out. Has genuine class and plays taller than he is…although may still grow a little.

81…BRL…Nick Davis…F…SYD…184cms

Only the third player to be recycled.

82…BRL…PASS
Pass for PSD pick…unsure if they’ll leave the door open for Cousins.

83…STK…PASS
Pass to claim Ben Cousins in the PSD. May go Nathan Carroll if Lions take Cousins.

84…PTA…PASS

Pass for PSD pick.

85…CAR…PASS
Pass to claim Chris Johnson in the PSD.

Bottom-aged players unlucky to miss…
Kieran King, Liam Shiels, Johnny Raynar, Dylan McNeil, Anthony Long, Jake Walsh and Brad Mangan.

Good effort. Would be stoked if Schoenmakers made it to pick 40. Would hope the blues took Rockliff if he was available later in the draft.

Hurley, Schoenmakers and Davenport? I have a new favourite poster ;). That would be a sensational draft for Carlton which would leave me smiling for weeks. Don't like our chances though as I think that Schoenmakers will be taken in the top 20.

Don't know much about Tiller but with that late a pick we can afford to take a fair risk. Sam Wright (who is on your list of possible rookie selections) would surely come under consideration for this pick and from what I've seen could really add something to the Carlton lineup.

A draft of Hurley, Schoenmakers, Davenport and Wright would make me.......well, never mind :p

Great job.

Yer good job. The only 1 i can really disagree with you is Yarran to Richmond. Tigers are much better served taking a forward or another gun midfielder in the Sidebottom mould or if they are lucky enough Hartlett/zieball. I think considering they are strongly criticised for taking Tambling so high, they may scare off taking Yarran with their first pick.

But if i were Richmond, my immediate attention would go to the forward line considering they must have some reasonably high hopes for Thomson to become that last in and under midfielder they need with a big body.

I got McKernan or Trengrove going to them...but i reckon their hope would be for Vickery to drop to them which should happen if Port Adelaide pass up.

I like it.

But I'd rather we draft a mid, Trengove or Yarran with pick six.

Jeremias beat me to the punch, but I'd rather Carlton select the undrafted Thomas lookalike in Sam Wright than another tall in Tiller.

Three talls is overkill.

Wouldn't we take the untried DeBoer ahead of Davenport with pick 65?

Another big body would be good and address our needs for an inside midfielder if that is DeBoer.

I don't know why a few Carlton fans wants Davenport.

Davenport might have been uncontracted, but is he any good after he was cut by the Cats?

Good to see a full draft.

..yep another youtube/bigfooty recruiter!

Bit harsh, but I don't claim to be much more than that. I certainly haven't seen enough to go into Quigley-like detail.

I agree with everything you said. One thing though. Its Trengove, NO R.

Definitely wouldn't have a problem with this hapenning in Draft day
Would probably rather Schoenmakers than O'Keefe (but if Schoenmakers is gone, O'Keefe is probably my second choice)
Would probably rather Rockliff than Banner (seeing as how he slips so far)
but with Trengove, O'Keefe/Schoenmakers, Sibosado, Banner/Rockliff and Hall I'd be very happy
good job
good to see a full draft with explanations the whole way to the end

pretty poor effort sorry to say..
btw ppl shud stop putting in Casey Sibosado considering he was too late to put in his draft nomination

Would be very happy to get Shuey at 61 but no clue why wed pass on swift with our first and schoenmakers is way too low. I would happily swap him for roughead!

I like Hannebery to the Eagles at 20. May seem early but I just think they will always look hard at promising bottom-aged midfielders with a big engine.

Also I like where you have Cockie. Your about the only other person who agrees with me on bigfooty that he will go in the 20s.

Hannebery at 20 would be wonderful, but don't be surprised to see him go earlier. A kid I really rate!

Constructive criticism is always appreciated and that's what makes your post so sh*t

According to cruiser23, Bucovaz is bottom aged.

I think that means Bucovaz can't be drafted in the rookie draft and the PSD.

Just had a second look at his age, was born in November 1990 so he's a few months off, my mistake. So thought he was bottom-aged for some reason.

Yeah from a Tigs perspective I reckon with our first pick it will be either needs (McKernan, Vickery, Trengove) or Best Available (Ziebell, Hartlett). Also if we went Yarran with first pick, second pick would have to be a tall, such as a Roughead who slides to 30..
Pretty good overall though, nice effort!!:thumbsu:

Revised Phantom

Club by Club

Adelaide
10. Jackson Trengove (KP, VIC, 197cms)
28. Rhys O'Keeffe (D, SA, 187cms)
44. Jarrad Redden (R, SA, 202cms)
60. Mitchell Banner (M, VIC, 178)
72. Matthew Martin (KD, SA, 196cms)

With Bassett, Massie and McGregor departing, the Crows need some height in defence and address that need with Trengove and Martin. Banner and O’Keefe boost the midfield. Adelaide’s ruck stocks have taken a hit in the last 2 years with Hudson and Biglands departing, so one of the 2 locals, Redden or Stanley should be considered.

Brisbane
7. Jack Ziebell (M, VIC, 188cms)
25. James Strauss (M, VIC, 185cms)
41. Bart McCulloch (R, TAS, 199cms)
57. Riley Milne (KD, VIC, 192cms)
69. Jack Redden (M, SA, 186cms)
81. Nick Davis (F, SYD, 184cms)
82. PASS
P5. Chris Hall (F, SA, 179cms)

Brisbane’s needs are varied and that makes the versatile Ziebell the perfect choice at #7. The recent departures of McDonald and Wood mean a ruckman will be on the agenda and I like McCulloch just ahead of Jarrad Redden. Milne should develop into a CHB, but needs time. Davis has been tipped to join from Sydney and Jack Redden has been linked to Brisbane by multiple sources. I think they’ll pass on pick 82 and keep their options open for the last spot on their list. Chris Hall might be seen as a long term replacement for Luke Power and would be unlucky to miss selection in the National Draft.

Carlton
6. Michael Hurley (KD, VIC, 192cms)
40. Aaron Cornelius (KF, TAS, 192cms)
65. Adam Varcoe (F, SA, 175cms)
80. Liam Shiels (M, VIC, 183cms)
85. PASS
P4. Chris Johnson (D, MEL, 188cms)

Hurley and Yarran are widely tipped to go to the Bombers and Blues, so it may depend on which way the Dons go. Hurley and Cornelius would be gold for Carlton, Varcoe can give Betts a helping hand and Shiels is a good bottom-aged midfielder who could go a lot earlier if he slips through to next year’s draft. The Blues will pass on their final pick and secure Chris Johnson in the PSD.

Collingwood

11. Tom Swift (M, WA, 190cms)
29. Dayne Beams (M, QLD, 184cms)
45. David Zaharakis (M, VIC, 180cms)
46. Brad Mangan (F, VIC, 185cms)
73. Zach Sengstock (KD, VIC, 191cms)

Lockyer and O’Bree aren’t far away from joining Bucks and Burns in retirement, so the Pies should look to further freshen their midfield. Swift could be special and is worth the risk. Beams and Mangan keep getting linked to Collingwood as well. Zaharakis will be a bargain if he slides to the 40s and Sengstock is probably the best available tall defender at the tail end of my draft. Key forward Scott Reed has already been secured as a rookie under the NSW scholarship program, so I doubt they look for any more key forwards.

Essendon
5. Chris Yarran (F, WA, 180cms)
23. Dan Hannebery (M, VIC, 182cms)
55. Luke Rounds (M, VIC, 181cms)
67. Zachary Clarke (R, VIC, 203cms)
79. Michael Still (KF, VIC, 192cms)

After selecting versatile KPPs last year in Pears, Daniher and Hooker, I think the Bombers will look for a midfielder at #5. Yarran is seen by many as a forward, but shouldn’t be pigeon-holed. Hannebery and Rounds further bolster the Bomber midfield, but at 23, a tall such as Post, Roughead or Lisle might be a better option strategically speaking. After going small early, a ruckman and a KPP should be targeted later on. Passing on #79 for a PSD pick is also an option.

Fremantle
3. Daniel Rich (M, WA, 183cms)
21. Mitch Brown (KF, VIC, 193cms)
24. Jordan Roughead (R, VIC, 200cms)
37. Adam Cockie (M, WA, 182cms)
53. Liam Anthony (M, WA, 187cms)
56. Matt Deboer (M, WA, 187cms)
68. Tom Rockcliff (F, VIC, 183cms)
77. PASS
P2. Todd Banfield (M, WA, 180cms)

Another club with varied needs, but a midfield rebuild will be priority 1. Pick 3 is still anyone’s guess, but Rich is the safe bet. Cockie, Anthony and Deboer could all play senior footy in 2009 and effectively replace veterans Bell, Carr and McManus. Height shouldn’t be overlooked though and Brown and Roughead are both nice gets in the 20s. Rockcliff gives the Dockers back the goal kicker they threw away when trading Medhurst. With an early PSD pick, the Dockers are likely to pass at #77 and keep their options open.

Geelong
15. Sam Blease (M, VIC, 183cms)
33. Casey Sibosado (KP, NT, 193cms)
39. Charlie Sharples (M, NT, 180cms)
49. Will Young (KP, VIC, 192cms)

Geelong has a stack of inside midfielders, so the selection of Blease and Sharples, two goal-kicking midfielders with pace, would be a welcome addition. Along with Ranga Ediriwickrama, a scary midfield just got a little scarier. The Cats probably need to bolster their future KPP stocks as well and Sibosado and Young can both play at either end. The Cats may also end up with a PSD pick if Matthew Egan can’t continue.

Hawthorn
16. Phil Davis (KP, SA, 193cms)
34. Ashley Smith (M, VIC, 185cms)
50. Sam Wright (F, VIC, 188cms)
63. Kade Klemke (D, NSW, 180cms)
75. Nathan O'Keefe (KF, VIC, 192cms)

The Hawks are in a good position to go best available and I have them getting a big mix. Davis has firmed as their top choice, Smith is a quick, long kicking half back or midfielder, Wright is a mid-sized forward with flair, Klemke is a solid small defender/midfielder and O’Keefe is a key forward. Another key forward may be surplus to their needs, so as a team whose premiership window is well and truly open; the Hawks may instead go for the best ready made player available…if you know what I mean!

North Melbourne
9. Steele Sidebottom (M, VIC , 182cms)
27. Ryan Schoenmakers (KF, SA, 193cms)
43. Hayden Ballantyne (F, WA, 174cms)
59. Clancee Pearce (D, WA, 183cms)
71. Taylor Gilchrist (M, VIC, 189cms)

The Roos have a somewhat ageing midfield, so Sidebottom will be hard to pass up if still available. Gilchrist has a lot of class and seems best suited to a wing…would be a super selection at #71. The departure of Thompson makes a key forward a priority as well, enter Ryan Schoenmakers! Ballantyne has a touch of Brent Harvey about him and Pearce is a tough defender with leadership potential.

Melbourne
1. Jack Watts ( KF, VIC, 196cms)
17. Mitch Robinson (M, TAS, 188cms)
19. Shaun McKernan (R/KF, VIC, 196cms)
35. Luke Shuey (M, VIC, 185cms)
51. Neville Jetta (F, WA, 178cms)
64. Warren Benjamin (M, WA, 187cms)
76. PASS
P1. Ian Richardson (F, WA, 180cms)

In terms of needs, Melbourne could do with a bit of everything. Watts is pretty much locked in and a key forward is their biggest need of all. The Demon’s already have the makings of a good midfield with McLean, Grimes, Morton and Jones. Add the ready-made Robinson to that mix, along with Shuey who seems an ideal replacement for Junior MacDonald and also Benjamin who is quick and hard at it and Melbourne’s midfield now looks formidable. McKernan would be a perfect fit due to his ability to play forward and ruck. Jetta is a bargain at #51, but he’s very light and patience is required. The number 1 PSD pick gives the Dees a shot at the best of the rest…I like Richardson because I think he can make an immediate impact. Another small forward probably doesn’t suit their needs though.

Port Adelaide
4. Hamish Hartlett (M, SA, 182cms)
22. Jayden Post (KP, VIC, 195cms)
38. Matthew Broadbent (D, SA, 189cms)
42. Rory Sloane (M, VIC, 182cms)
54. Steven Motlop (F, NT, 182cms)
66. Tyson Slattery (D, SA, 189cms)
78. Paul Cahill (KF, SA, 192cms)
84. PASS
P3. Josh Carr (M, FRE, 179cms)

Vickery would be a perfect fit, but Port now seem likely to pounce on Hartlett and they won’t be disappointed. Port’s main weakness appears to be in the back half, and they can address that with local duo Slattery and Broadbent (also a handy midfielder) along with the strong marking Post and the highly competitive Sloan (also also a handy midfielder). Together, the Motlop brothers could wreak havoc up forward Krakouer brothers’ style! Instead of Cahill, a ruckman such as SA’s Stanley or WA’s Murray might be a better fit. Finally, Carr seems just about certain to land back at Port via the PSD.

Richmond
8. Tyrone Vickery (R/KF, VIC, 200cms)
26. Nick Suban (D, VIC, 179cms)
58. Tom Allwright (M, TAS, 185cms)
70. Tom Hislop (M, ESS, 186cms)

The slide of Vickery would be a dream come true for the Tigers. A classic two-birds with one stone option that can influence games in the ruck or up forward equally well. Suban and Hislop have the toughness to compliment the class of Deledio, Cotchin, Edwards and Tambling and Allwright is just a good all rounder.

St Kilda
13. Stephen Hill (M, WA, 182cms)
47. Jaime Sheahan (M, VIC, 178cms)
48. Lance Daly (KF, WA, 191cms)
62. Tom Simpkin (D, VIC, 190cms)
74. Steve Gaertner (KD, VIC, 198cms)
83. PASS
P6. Nathan Carroll (KD, MEL, 191cms)

The Saints should look to bolster their midfield and should achieve that with Hill, Sheahan and Farren Ray. Sheahan is also a very capable small forward. With the G-Train retiring (for real this time), a good full-forward would be a nice fit and Lance Daly looks the goods. Hudghton isn’t getting any younger and the Goose has been riddled with injuries, so the additions of Gaertner and Carroll (via the PSD) will add depth to their defensive stocks. A ruckman might also be a requirement, but I like the style and versatility of Simpkin instead. The Saints have already added 208cm Blake McGrath to their rookie list as a NSW scholarship holder.

Sydney

12. Lewis Johnston (KF, SA, 192cms)
30. Jordan Lisle (KD, VIC, 196cms)
61. Tom Hill (R/KF, VIC, 199cms)

The succession plan for Sydney’s key positions seems a bit of a concern. My knowledge of Sydney’s list might not be great, but I hope they avoid the short stocky midfielder/half-forward types and get some big guys in. Johnston is a great mark and plays with flair. Lisle is a big unit and can play at either end. With Everitt retiring, another developing ruckman should also be targeted and Hill would be a nice choice in the 4th round. They’re limited to just 3 picks, so I think they should go tall all the way.

Western Bulldogs
14. Ayce Cordy (R, VIC, 202cms)
31. Nick Heyne (F, VIC, 187cms)
32. Liam Jones (KF, TAS, 192cms)

Another club limited to just 3 selections, with only 2 being live. Cordy should be a bargain buy at #14, Heyne has loads of class and Jones can by Clayton’s final attempt to bring a class key forward to the kennel. In saying that, I’m not suggesting that Grant is spud either.

West Coast

2. Nick Naitanui (R, WA, 201cms)
18. Michael Walters (M, WA, 177cms)
20. Tom Lynch (KP, VIC, 191cms)
36. Jarrad Blight (D, WA, 192cms)
52. Alistair Smith (M, WA, 185cms)

With Seaby having a dog of a year and Cox hobbling to another AA gong, the Eagles will be delighted to add Naitanui to their list. Lynch isn’t dissimilar to Adam Hunter and is very hardworking and versatile. Smith is a quick and classy midfielder who I think would’ve gone sooner if he didn’t spend a lot of 2008 on the sidelines. Blight is a long kicking halfback who had a great year in the Colts. And Walters is midfielder/forward with excellent disposal. Overall, the Eagles get a bit of everything.
