Okay, so I was in Myer this afternoon doing some Christmas shopping with someone of the opposite sex, so naturally as soon as possible I made my excuses to duck off to the AV department and play some PS3.

They happened to have COD Black Ops set up on the Sony 3DTV - got to say it was pretty funky. Anyone else played it? It's not enough to make me rush out and buy one but I imagine if you were a serious gamer it would be pretty cool. Also makes me wonder what sport would be like on it... didn't they show a couple of soccer World Cup matches in 3D?

I watched the GF on my dads 3D TV

i expected i'd watch the first 10mins in 3D, get a headache, or AFL just wouldnt work with 3D, and watch the rest normally.

I watched the whole thing in 3D, it was incredible. wide shots didn't do much, but inclose it blows your mind

I haven't watched any 3D TV but a guy from work has one and he watched the Rugby on it in 3D. He reckons after 20-30 mins you get a headache because there is so much going on.

Dunno, I'll wait until they are released without needing glasses before I make a purchase.

This x100000

I don't need to look like a gimp while I'm watching TV. Already do enough of that outside...

The way I figure, they will be a lot cheaper and a lot better quality the longer I hold off.

Besides I just upgraded to this baby last week....

Now I can watch all my favourite eps of Tom and Jerry in colour

You'll be waiting a long time before you can buy one of those. Also, everything you watch will be in 3D so anything that wasn't filmed with a 3D rig is going to look shithouse, and additionally, it's only going to work if you're sitting directly in front of the TV and not off to the side, or above, or below the middle of the screen.

checked one of these out at JB Hi Fi the other day

theyre not too bad, but the trouble is that if you're not wearing the glasses, the background is blurry as ****

I don't think they are too far off. We already have the technology for it. The comments are having to sit in front of it are no different then the 3D TV's now with glasses. You have to sit in front of it or it doesn't work.

I'm honestly not the biggest fan of 3D TV's. The pictures is nice but personally I can only watch it for a short amount of time before my eyes strain. (I'm going by my experience at the movies). Also, having a 3D TV is no good if you want to get pissed and watch the footy.

In prototype stage - making this mass manufacturable is completely different. If every technology that was possible was manufactured by the big companies we'd all be watching paper-thin OLED TVs by now. And we are not.

Current viewing angles for 3DTV's are only limited by the range of the transmitter - and with most you can watch in a 120 degree radius from the centre of the screen at least.

So you're not the biggest fan of something you haven't watched? You're aware that the technology used in cinemas is different to the technology in the TV's, or that the glasses are different?

How so? You've tried it? I've watched all 3 State of Origin games in 3D and wasn't sober for a single one of them, nor any of the 3D matches during the World Cup.

Buy a Playstation or Xbox - there are clear warnings in the box about not drinking and gaming at the same time - do you think anyone listens? You get stiffer health warnings when you buy headphones or a bluetooth headset than when you buy a 3DTV.

Toshiba are releasing a 3D TV which doesn't need glasses this year. Although in small sizes it's still already available. But yes, bigger sizes are still a while off.

Yeah, that's fine although sitting on radius still effect's the quality of the image. So really, for the best experience you have to sit in front.

I've popped my head in a display set at JB. For me personally it's not my thing. I actually have an eye condition where my eye muscles are not the strongest so anything that will make them strain is not the best for my heath.

Ive got a 3D Sony Bravia. Pretty much only bought it because it came with the free PS3. Only problem with the 3D is it's not inbuilt into the TV, there's an extra transmitter that you connect which means it isnt as smooth as it could be. There's some flicker.

Wouldnt mind trying COD Black Ops in 3D, 'cept, it sucks.

How do you find watching the TV on an angle?

I've watched five minutes of Alice in Wonderland 3D. Havent really checked the viewing angles but the gf and I had no issues watching at a standard angle.

I can't fault my current tv's performance and styling.

Viewing angles are reasonable for the gaming & movies I've played/seen.
The eye strain is the issue. Because the technology uses "shutter glasses" that open and shut millions of times to blend images it really feels like you're eyes have been messed with.
After 1hr of Motor Storm 3D rift my eyes felt like i'd been in a sand storm.
Who knows if this is good for your eyes or not. Could just be a new eye excercise that may lead to stronger vision.

12" and 20", at a resolution of 466 x 350. It's the same technology which is in the DSI and will be in phones eventually, because it can only be used in small screens with a single viewer. Even if it was worth putting it in a bigger screen, Toshiba won't be the company to do it.

I'm sure there will be a few glasses free prototypes at CES in January but we'll have to wait and see about the screen sizes, and I strongly doubt that any of them will be in JB next year, or the year after.

Not true, as I said earlier you can watch them from any angle and as long as you are within broadcast range of the IR transmitter you will get the same experience. There's no alteration to the quality or angle of the 3D image by sitting to the left or right. That's not how frame sequential 3D works.

Fair enough, it's probably not a good idea for you to watch it for long periods.

We got one a few weeks back (not really for the 3D, we just liked the TV) and from what I'd seen at JB, etc I wasn't that impressed. Anyway once we got it all set up at home and tried it, its great. Haven't really had much use out of it yet and we only have the two 3D movies and a few 3D ps3 games.
