4 years ago i was hip and shouldered badly on the basketball court by this tank of a dude. Felt my back crack and its been deteriorating ever since. I've had lots of x-rays and the doctors can only really see a little bit of curvature of the spine and a minute ammount of degeneration between a couple of discs. Anyone had back problems and fixed them with pilates or yoga or anything? I've been doing a bit of yoga lately and a lot of situps to strengthen the abs which connect around to the back and give a bit of stability. I feel a bit better after the sessions but then the pain returns, i probably need to do it heaps more. It's early days though.

I had back problems when I was 17 - 18 and went to chiropractors, physios etc, but the best advice I can give is situps or any back related exercise, I'm mid 30's now and still do 'em.

My recommendation (not medical advice of course!)

1. Purchase one of those 'electric magnetic' woolen underlay things for your bed as seen on TV! ;) Usually see them on Berts Good Morning Australia. They actually do work.

2. Drink Aloe Vera juice. Approx 20mls twice daily. You should only drink Aloe Juice which states on the back it is from the 'Aloe Barbadensis Miller' plant and is gel from the inner leaf. It should be at least 99% pure. If it doesnt state this on the back of bottle, dont buy.

3. Exercise regularly.

This wouldn't be bollocks the bloke who needs a shoulder reconstruction after getting punched in the shoulder would it?

What happen this time get hit in the back with a tennis ball - I woulda thought if you got hip and shouldered in the back it would've surely meant a wheelchair for life for someone such as yourself  ?

Maybe you could PM Groves and ask him if you could change your name to hypochondriac, or wussypants or sooky la la.

Truly a wimp of the highest order mate - and now as i have refrained for so long

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAH

You're a Joke

Sit-ups, go to your nearest physio/chiro, or get a hold of a TCM/remedial masseur. (Best place is the Melbourne College of Natural Medicine in the CBD.)

Been doing a lot of sit ups lately but i think i need to buy a lat pull down machine or something to really stretch out the muscles in the back and relieve tension, and also help support the spine more. Getting MRI scan diagnosis on Monday, see what the orthopedic surgeon has to say.

I really should cut down on my typing anyway - all that punching away on the keys is bound to result in severe tendon and ligament damage to my fingers and may actually result in amputation

Ya big pansy toughen up - I've seen bowls of jelly that were harder than you

Why even waste time replying. Just wanted to know of anyone who's had to deal with back pain and had any suggestions and i cop Rave Slave's sarcasm

Well maybe if you hadn't lost all credibility from informing everyone you felt you needed a shoulder reconstruction after being punched maybe i wouldnt think you were the softest person in existence.

There's blokes out there working with disc's in their back that have completely worn away and you moan over 'slight' disintegration.

How do you cope in the real world?

You are a wuss of the highest degree my friend - in a world where only the strongest survive i ponder how you have made it this far.

I will inform you after my x-ray on the shoulder what the deal is. You're acting like its just a cork or something. It fully feels like the very structure is collapsing. You can't understand til you experience it for yourself. These injuries may sound wussy to you but they just ******** me off constantly

I think he realises that because he has stopped with the abusive pms and seems to be targeting a friendly poster like yourself who he considers easy prey.

Yes a lat pulldown machine and millitary press will help it enormously. Along with the sit-ups.

Lie on your back on a flat surface and stretch it regularly. Try to keep it straight as much as possible and make sure youre sleeping on a good bed with a good matress.

Good luck.

There's nothing worse than a hard matress when sleeping.

Yeah my mattress is rock hard, this could be adding to the problem. I should invest in a softer mattress and possibly get some of the electro wool insulated sheets

Otherwise take your partner home and soften it the easy way

Welcome to BF Bollocks :)

I have an L5/S1 rupture and broad-based disc herniation at L4.

Soft impact Pilates is really good for your back. Hard-impact Pilates sucks, don't go there.

When suffering any injury in your back, the best rehabilitation is swimming and exercising the WHOLE body is the way to go. Remember that back pain is a chronic condition and must be managed at all times. Everything I do is structured so that I don't aggravate or worsen the injury.

Don't have surgery at any cost. Don't rely on medication either.

Take it easy mate.

Thanks for the info Rainy. I'm going to buy a pilates video and do the exercises religiously. How do i distinguish between softer and harder exercises?

Being tall I have suffered back problems for ages, I do pilates, plus other soft impact things to build up strength in my back.

Also, buy a futon bed, until I started sleeping on a futon, my back was bad, spring mattresses suck, hard futon mattresses are great.
