Geelong for me. Though I don't see why players should have to use a single team, that's just giving handicaps.

If we're choosing single teams then I would like one of Collingwood, Geelong or Sydney.

But imo it should be randomised teams. Then we can't have people blaming the quality of a team for their loss (i.e. 4 1/2 star team vs a 3 star team).

I call for a two-leg series. That way if you get a bit of bad luck with the random team draw in the first leg, you still have a bit of a chance in the second leg because the teams would be randomised again.

Two-leg series, if it is tied at one-all then it goes on aggregate (total points scored).
Just a couple of suggestions of what I think would work best :thumbsu:

Someone should work out which teams match up well against each other, and maybe we could do it that way? Like we have a few matchups that you can choose from? E.g. Geelong vs Hawthorn, Collingwood vs Saint Kilda, Hawthorn vs Geelong, Melbourne vs Richmond. Those sort of games.

While it might take some of the flavour out of the competition, I think the possibility of someone having to play as say, Gold Coast against Collingwood is a little silly. Though it would be just as bad for someone if they have to play as a team that they don't often play as I suppose.

hmm.

Oh, and one final thing. No games in the ****ing rain kthx.

Lol. We can't control weather conditions for online games. :p

I see what you guys are getting at. So, we have the following options for teams:

1) Each player selects a team to use for the entire season (random draw for those who want them same team, or those who don't care).
2) Each player is randomly assigned 1 team for the entire season.
3) Each player is randomly assigned a team for each game (can randomly assign opponents an equal calibre team, ie. 4/5 team v 4/5 team, then 3/5 team v 3/5 team). Be a lot of the same match ups though.

Can I get a general consensus of what people are happy to have? My idea was to go with either option 1 or 2, but option 3 has merit also. Personally, I'd be happy to go Gold Coast for the entire season (not that they're my first choice), because I really don't mind which team I'd be assigned.

Ideally, if we could all get the teams we want, then that's the best option.
If there a multiple selections for one team (which there will be), it's a bit unfair on the people who then get randomly assigned a team, because they'll get given one of the left overs....

i.e 3 people choose Collingwood, 1 person chooses Saints. The two people that don't get the Pies will get given someone like Gold Coast, instead of having a crack at St.Kilda.

I reckon, we see how we go for teams.... if, somehow, there are no overlaps, we go with that....otherwise the entire comp is random teams.

I reckon we should stick with the one team throughout the whole season as well.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll leave it open for some more and then I'll make the final decision. I am leaning towards randomly assigning teams, but if anyone who has not yet nominated a team wants to nominate someone who hasn't been "chosen" yet, post so I can update the OP.

I'll also leave it open for more than 17 people to join. Some haven't submitted all their details, so if they don't check this regularly, I'll assume they are not interested. Probably try and settle everything by end of Friday and start working on scratch matches for next week (that's the aim, anyway).

EDIT: I vote for banning bumping. It works ridiculously compared to how bumping someone works in real life, PURIST FTW :p
No spam bumping imo.

Can't suddenly take everything out...no ruck punching, no bumping, no playing the game, no turning console on, no power allowed in your house...

Even though nobody will probably want Richmond unless they support them, I'll take Richmond and Sydney as my preferences, if preferences are needed.

I was joking heh. I do think it is silly though as I said in the main thread.

Considering that this is a season rather than a cup as i first thought I'd probably rather take port if that's okay :p

No ruck punching? Lol. . . what?

I don't get the whole spam bumping either. .

The only rule should be no blocking set shots.. obviously.

As for selections of teams, to be fair maybe jorel can randomly pick the 17 teams out of a hat along as well our names?

Spam bumping is just boring the game into oblivion.

Where you just bump and bump and bump and bump and bump, etc. waiting for the next player to get the ball. Just not needed.

Where do you draw the line between spam bumping and allowed bumping though? Sometimes I'll have my guy and his opponent running at the ball, with another of my guys a metre or two back. In that case, I get the front guy to bump so my other guy can run onto it.

Is that allowed?

Saying that, if it's just 1v1 running to the ball, and I'm behind slightly, I'll probably try to bump the guy, but only after he has picked it up. Surely that's ok?

Ok, I'll write up some "rules" that everyone has to adhere to. It's hard to draw the line on bumping, as it is an effective and legal tool. Some people do overdo it, which can be frustrating, but most bumps are often good play to get a man free with the ball.

I think the main idea is to be "sportsmanlike". I played a guy last night who ran down the clock excessively by taking forever for a set shot, and then when marking in the backline running backwards and around the mark so I was paused for a second standing on the mark and unable to chase, despite being 5 goals up for the majority of the game. Whilst legal, I found this to be unsportsmanlike, so I think if we use the honour system, we can avoid stuff like this. Again, I'll try to cover it in a list of rules.

I'll also leave the comp open for more people to join. Will close joining after the weekend. I think some people aren't re-checking the thread very often, which is going to be critical to make the comp a success. So I'll PM all parties who have joined up and ensure I get a response from them. If not, they'll be omitted.

It also appears to be working out that most players are chosing unique teams (a bit of Collingwood overlap, but many of those are name preferences). At this stage, may not need to do random assigning. If we get too many wanting the same team, I'll randomly assign a team to them, and if they don't want that team, they don't have to participate. If we get more than 17, I'll allow some doubling up on teams (no more than 2 Collingwoods, 2 Geelongs etc).

I'm thinking we do a set of scratch matches first (1 or 2 nights). Maybe 2 or 3 games per night. Record our results. Then I'll set up a "pre-season" comp (probably in NAB Cup format, with round robin then elimination).

Then, if all is working well, I'll draw up a season. The season will most likely have a few rounds per week.

Any further ideas, post them here. Otherwise, I'll write it all up, PM you all and probably create a new thread to record the action.

I'll most likely be recording my games.... so if there's anything upsetting/controversial in my matches, I'll bring them to the tribunal (this thread) for an overview. hehe.

hey jorel, why dont we get this thing rolling, anyone who misses out can join up for the next one. Everyone on the list should make sure they have everyone else on their friendslist

Yeah that's exactly what I do.

Forthwrite - not too late. Added you. But need more details (PSN ID, times available, team(s) of preference). Will add anyone else who wants to join up until the end of the weekend. I would love to start it now, but it needs to be organised properly.

I'll get onto the rules/team allocations ASAP. Expect a PM (hopefully today) for those who have registered interest.
