It is obvious to me that the outright elitism/favoritism of the AFL will ensure that the DonsVPies continue to build there game as a mini Grand Final. This continual blah about what a privilege to play by the players, what an honor to represent the AFL in paying accolades to the Diggers etc. highlights the ingrained inequity in the comp that the AFL not only ignore but encourage. It really peeves me that these things continue and it will only make it harder for the boutique teams to compete with the mega clubs. Sponsors and future followers are effected by the coverage the teams in the media. Will it change? NO, because just like the draw changing to make it fairer will cost the bottom line.
So what should we do? Here’s one idea, lets -
Request to link in with the Dockers Anzac Day every year
Request that it gets on free to air (because it starts later it should be easier if we push it)
Request that we play the Eagles in the adjacent round to Anzac day.

In most years the Anzac day will probably be a non football day(Mon,Tue,Wed,Thur) and by linking the Eagles day to the closest end of the round we could then stay over in Perth with a stay over of less than a week. All ready this year it has been noticed that Fremantle always spends one extra day in Melbourne before they play, The Demons when going up to Sydney went up early stayed an extra day. It could be an idea for Geelong to compromise staying away with having less time in the air. Iff the Cats start to stay an extra day before interstate matches then the extra stay over time might be only a day or two It would enable them to try pump themselves up in Perth where they do have a reasonable following, let them get more coverage, perhaps with the advent of JetStar the Cats might be able to come up with some holiday packages to encourage participation from Cat members and it would also be something different showing us to be proactive in trying to fit into the future of AFL.
