Will our club ever get to play one at home? We always hear of calls for the Pies v Bombers game to be shared around but never really hear of the Eagles wanting to play Anzac Day at Subi. Dockers have the Len Hall game and have done a good job with it over the years. But it would be nice for the eagles to have a home game once in a while on what is probably the biggest round of the home and away season.

Will this change now that us and Sydney have established the HMAS Sydney II Cup? If not it seems our club has committed to always playing a game in Sydney every year. Good for eagles fans in NSW....

I guess it would all come down to what happens in Melbourne. If the Pies v Bombers game doesn't change then I can't see the game at Subi ever changing.

Crossed my mind yesterday that an Anzac derby would be interesting.

From a TV point of view it could dovetail very nicely with the Pies v Bombers game given the two hour time difference.

The establishment of this cup has ruined my Anzac Days for years to come.. :( I was too hungover from the shambles of a game on Saturday afternoon I could hardly make it to the pub on Sunday.. :thumbsd:

Does anyone know if it is going to continue that the games will always be held in Sydney? If it is, you WA folk might as well get over to Sydney for it... Anzac Day is always a cracker here...

Answer post number 7 first.

Then answer why the Eagles deserve to have the ANZAC round to themselves ?.

They don't

Let's just set-up an America's Cup day. Have a derby, then it will be WA only for ever as we celebrate one of the great sporting achievements in history. No Vics allowed muhahahah.

To answer your question wether Eagles deserve the Anzac day home game the answer is no. Fremantle in there time in the AFL have got a lot of things wrong but the Anzac day match is not one of them . They should be congratulated in remembering the anzacs and the match now has a traditional feel to it. Unlike other posters i think that there is no reason for West Coast to try take this home fixture off Fremantle. If the Dockers want to play a derby on this day then that is fine but you cant just start demanding that clubs give up fixtures they have had for years. West Coast had there chance to start this tradition and chose not to so they can now no longer cry foul on the situation. ..

personally i dont mind that freo have a monopoly on the anzac match. the only thing i worry about is if we will have to play sydney away every year now we have the hmas sydney II cup. if that is true then that is the unfair thing about this whole situation.

just thought id raise this topic again. Just because the Victorian clubs allow Essendon and Collingwood to have eternal dibbs on the ANZAC day game, doesnt mean West Coast should just bend over for Fremantle...

Would it be possible for both clubs to have a home game that round?

Not really, no. That would stuff the alternating Home-Away request that both clubs make each year. You'd need a bye or some such to knock it back into the pattern afterwards.

Freo made the effort....
