didnt he only play 3 games for Peel last season ?
i think we are dreaming if we think hes going to play any sort of significant role in 2016
Morabito is more of a chance to line up than him
Agree with that, he probably needs this whole season to get over the knee.

Then look out!

Rate his natural game far more than Taberner's, and I like the natural aggression he's shown in the couple of games he's managed. If it's him and Taberner ripe and ready round one, there is absolutely no question who I'd go with.

Taberner is quite possibly the most timid man to play for Fremantle since Jacquie Hannath.

Have you seen Apeness play for Peel because he's barely played for Freo so don't know how you can say that he's more natural than Tabs and that Tabs is more timid.

Yep, looking back over the WAFL stats for this year Tabs is clearly ahead. More disposals, more marks, more goals. While Tabs has one more year in the team over Apeness Tabs was a rookie pickup while Apeman was a 1st rounder.

Tabs played 6 games
Ape played 4 games

Averages - 2015 WAFL

A similar story for 2014 stats as well.

Even reading back through the Peel gameday reports there weren't many glowing reviews of Apeness. Most saying he was still very raw and needed work. I think he will more than likely be playing the whole season for Peel unless he shows something extraordinary during the Nab cup.

We all agree that 50 games in is when you can properly start to judge whether a player is going to make it or not. Tabs has played 28 games, so 2016 will be the year he hits the 50 game mark. I have confidence that he can kick 30 goals next season and be a successful part of our forward line.

.

What is worth noting is that of those four games Apeman sustained a severe concussion early in the third of one game, and then in his last game of the year did the PCL also in the third. So he played two full games and two half games. I wouldn't read too much into Apemans 2015 season. Sounded like he had a good preseason; I remember some glowing appraisals from training watchers but then started the NAB off a little underwhelming. But the real shame particularly now with no McCarthy is that he didn't get a full season of development at Peel under his belt. I remember reading a small article in the Sunday Times around August that Apeman was trying make a comeback for Peels finals but I guess Freo put the cue in the rack. I also read that he has been out camping with mates in country Vic so sounds like he won't be too late a starter for preseason.

He played mostly rugby in high school so will need patience. If we can get some gametime into him and some further development into Tabs with McCarthy a likely inclusion for 2017 then that is a building forward line. We really have to bite the bullet and back them in for 2016. Alex Pearce playing 12 games in 2015 has done wonders for him next year.

The thing to keep in mind with Apeness is that he is coming from a bit of a rugby background with a rugby body. The club were trying to change his body type and probably still are. I'd hold judgement on him for at least another season.

Apeness has mad skill but no killer institution. I've seen that first hand.

Reply 1: He's injured and crap
Reply 2: He's decent and will slot in after getting over his injuries
Reply 3: Middle ground reply from one of the forums older heads
Well, and it surely is the time find out which is the case. Probably was already this year, but the injury bit (which obviously was the case) made that impossible...

According to this news report, Apeness was recovering sooner than expected from his PCL injury & was even a chance of making the finals:
https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/afl/a/28903373/michael-apeness-progresses-for-dockers/
I've noticed a few posters saying in various forums that he will miss the preseason (or part of the preseason).
Is this based on anything? (eg. is Apeness known to have had an injury recurrence / new injury?)
If not, he hopefully will get a full preseason.
He looks skinnier than his weight suggests & is a battering ram in pack situations. I really hope he stays fit & makes it.

I thought he hurt it again after this article and had an operation, saw him at peel game at end of season and still was limping, actually spoke to him but never asked when he was returning.

I've watched Apeness at training one day take some seriously speccy pack marks in front of goal. He will be a very intimidating acquisition for us in the future. He's a first round draft pick, and I'll be very surprised if he doesn't make it. Apeness won the set shot goal kicking in the combine, I think it was 30 out of thirty, so that suggests he's a very good set shot.
When Apeness develops, he's going to be a beauty I reckon. He's also got a huge tank and is one of our best endurance runners, as well as a tackling machine. Get excited about this guy, he's still very raw but his upside is enormous.

That made me go all tingly simpsonwillo.

I think most people rate his game. That's not concerning too many people (I think, I've not done a survey or anything). The big question is more simply if his body is going to be able to take it and, moreover, how long it will take.

I still see him as a 1st year player really who's only just been drafted. Loads of potential, but we don't know quite what we have yet. He has a great WAFL season and maybe pushing for the odd game later in the year, I'll be stoked with that.
