A beautiful crisp and sunny morning for training today. Quite a decent crowd turned up to watch what was a very light session.
Not Training: Varcoe
Light Training: Ben Sinclair
Late: Treloar didn't start with the main group but joined in the drills later.
I'd heard a rumour that a couple of blokes were sore and were doubtful starters against the Blues. Treloar and Phillips trained strongly and put paid to those rumours. Pendles trained very lightly indeed and wore an orange vest for much of the session. Looks fine to me.
The drills today focussed on fast ball movement by hand and foot. Lots of core development with emphasis on short passes (20-30 metres) and accuracy. Players worked in four rotations and all had quite a lengthy goal kicking session. The emphasis was on set shots from 30-40 metres out. Fasolo couldn't miss. De Goey couldn't nail many and Elliott left his kicking boots in the rooms. Cox had a lengthy spell kicking from distance with a trainer. Dunn was very accurate and hardly missed a set shot during this time.
Earlier Cox rucked against Anthony Rocca attempting to palm to the waiting Crisp, Adams and Treloar.
Ben Reid and Wells took part in all drills too.
The VFL players trained separately under Coach Rivers. Good to see Sier back on the track and fully recovered from his facial injury. I hope this lad gets a clear run now to show us what he can do. I don't know if he can play or not yet, but he has the skills and the body. Footy smarts? We shall see.
Sharenberg, Mayne, Crocker, Langdon, Keeffe, Mackie, Daicos, White, Kirby and Brown kept training well after the AFL boys had left the field. Their training involved foot skill work and keeping possession, the coach was asking them to 'hold possession' and then deliver accurately.
Crocker and Sharenberg look right and are ready to step up if the opportunity arises. I guess the conundrum this week is whether to play Dunn or not. Reid should come back and De Goey seems likely.
As Bucks seems convinced that Reid should play back, it seems the Cox experiment will continue. As he was given plenty of time in the ruck today and in goal kicking drills, he'll stay beside Moore for another week, but could Dunn play forward?
There was no match practice today and rightly so; 3 games in 12 days requires freshening up only.

Great Post,
As for Dunn has he played up forward before ?
Including a bag of five against Richmond that year.http://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/L/Lynden_Dunn.html

When you crack that whip, it be cracked. After seeking his permission, I merged the 4 training reports Mazzarjo has kindly done for us.

and 10 goals from the first 16 matches...
You're a mathematical genius. Brilliant.
Good to see I'm finally being recognised for my brilliance. Cheers.
Now since the point was so eloquently missed, it means he was a non event in 16 games prior to his end of season purple patch when played as a forward. Not exactly endorsement material is it. Cherry picking is fun.
Cherry picking ain't fun. Filling a 20 kg bin with little red cherries is bloody hard work.
The question that needs to be asked was where did he play those first 16 games? I don't know. Do you? Maybe he was a swing man, maybe he spudded it up. Anyway the original question that was asked was answered, he has played as a forward.
A kicking accuracy test now takes place with a group of players taking the ball and trying to hit one of three rectangular nets placed in an arc about 20 metres away. The players are: De Goey, Adams, Wells, Fasolo, Sidebottom Broomhead and Crisp. I guess there were 6 -10 attempts for each player with only one bulls-eye in total and that ladies and gents went to Taylor Adams, which might be a bit of a surprise to some.
