Are Collingwood really that good???

Hawthorn at the moment compares best to the WCE in the final weeks of 2009. A false dawn from a side with serious issues.

That would make sense if Hawthorn hadn't of win a premiership 18 months ago, but no. Hawthorn's results over the past 5 weeks doesn't demonstrate how dominant they've been during the courses of their matches. Have been in total control and only a laspe has let the other teams in during stages - I don't see us doing that against a better side.

We are currently a shadow of what we were in 2008, but I still reckon we'd beat Collingwood if we were playing them this week. Still have the potential to be what we were in 2008 come finals time and everything is on the line.

Must be a pretty bitter pill to swallow for a Collingwood supporter that Hawthorn were good enough to get Shane Crawford a premiership but yet Collingwood weren't good enough to get Nathan Buckley a premiership.

So they have beaten all the teams in the 8 apart from Geelong and St Kilda who are clearly the best 2 sides in the comp and Sydney who they haven't had to face yet.
They have kicked the 3rd most points for and have had the 5th least points kicked against and have only played 3 teams in the bottom 8. So you would have to think that 3rd is were they should, but a very distant 3rd at that.

These are the raw facts

Since Geelong and St.Kilda have been No.1 and No.2 (i.e since the beginning of 2009), Collingwood have kicked the following

28:66 in five games including two games this year averaging less than 6 goals a game.

Last year these two teams were the brick wall. They STILL ARE the brick wall this season.

As you rightly said even the Collingwood players, ESPECIALLY the Collingwood players KNOW this fact. they know they cant score against these two team and this will again become apparent if they play them in finals.

You see, Collingwood are mentally scarred by these two teams. they are mentally weak and crack under this extreme pressure. You know, I know it, Malthouse knows it, and as you state the Collingwood players know it.

Now this for ever part.

Afraid not. It doesn't just happen. Ask, Richmond supporters, ask Bulldog supporters who have been around the mark for 15 years or so.

I'm afraid that by looking to some mythical future, you think that this will be enough.

Only thing that matters is now, this season. And as you yourself have pointed out Collingwood cant cut it with the two best this season and even the players know that.

it's d*ckheads like you that make st kilda's choke on the big day last year all the funnier. if ever a team was gifted a flag it was the saints last year, every conceivable thing that could go right did during the year, eg gilt edged run with injuries, injuries to geelong in 2nd half of year, yet in true st kilda fashion they still managed to stuff it up on the day that counted

it must pain you no end to think that all those years of plundering the draft for high picks after st kilda's version of a "rebuild" (ie be completely sh!thouse and non competitive for a few years) are going to amount to zilch in the long run. hilarious

The season isn't over though, is it? I suppose the fact that we were infront of Geelong for 95% of round 2 doesn't count for anything. Sure as hell would've gotten over the line in that one, barring diabolicial umpiring. We've flogged you 4 out of the last 5 times we've faced you and you're in the top 4, right? You've struggled twice against Melbourne, and look what we did to them this season. You would've gotten knocked off by Richmond had you been playing them last weekend.

On form, Hawthorn are better then Collingwood at the moment and when both teams are at their very best, Hawthorn are definately better then Collingwood as shown by what we've done to you in recent years. Your only victory over us came when we were at our lowest point in the last few years. Get over it - you haven't got it in you to win a premiership. Its unlikely that either of us will win the premiership this year, but we're sure as hell more likely in the not too distant future.

Real good work although ill give it you had a few good wins inbetween you cant say your a better side than collingwood. In the end i know were i would want to be. sitting in third a 6 points entrenched in the top 4. Or 8th just in the eight on percentage.

Lets see how you go in the next few weeks mate Essendon is a big game for you, showed no heart last time lets pray you do this time, you then have bulldogs, brisbane, geelong and stkilda. Lets see how you go mate instead of jumping the gun saying your back...

We're not back yet, we're a shadow of what we were in 2008 but as momemtum builds, so does confidence and that's how teams find their best form. Our list is similar to 2008 and in 08 we proved that when we're at our best, not even Geelong can beat us.

Scraped over the line against poor opposition? Sydney played aswell against us as they have in their previous couple of wins. They were poor prior to facing us, but sure as hell weren't when we faced them. Richmond challenged us, the same way that Melbourne challenged you guys. Does that berate Collingwood or not? Port admittingly are playing like a bottom 4 side at the moment, but we were in control of the match for the majority and were able to fend off a come back. You can overlook winning streaks against weak opposition, but unlike other clubs, Hawthorn's present side can go with anyone on their day and it would be crazy to overlook them, just because they've relinquished a 5-6 goal lead against a weaker team.

When both teams are at fullstrength, both in good form Hawthorn are better then Collingwood. Hawthorn have struggled to field a consistent side since the premiership and paid a heavy price by winning that premiership - because of that, we've been unable to build any real momemtum until recently. As shown by that injuries list another Collingwood supporter posted acouple of pages back, Collingwood have been fortunate.
