Are we forgetting

With all the talk of our midfield and who we should get to improve our rotations are we forgetting something we already have....
Angus Monfries! has been played as a small forward but he was drafted as a midfielder. Interesting to listen to Dean Wallis saying this year he should be able to bulk up a little as unlike last pre season (with his injured shoulder) he will be given a decent weight program.
Sure it would be good to land a Kelly or another good midfielder but it would be better to see young Gus in the middle a lot more often next year

It would be awesome. If he plays a season in the midfield he'll lead the league in free kicks for, if he lives.

One thing i'm not sure about is his pace...i've never seen him look slow but i've never seen him break lines either. About the same as Scotty West ?

I dont think anyone is forgetting about Angus Monfries. Yes he should play more in the midfield this year but we still need more midfielders, look at West Coast, you can never have too many.

He isn't lightning quick, he's more of an extractor but not slow either. I'm sure its because of his and Watson's emergence that JJ suddenly has become a bit more expendable. We need more leg speed to support the likes of Gus and Jobe.

James Kelly is an interesting one, was setting the world on fire before he broke his leg 3 years ago but seems to be struggling in a midfield with many similar types. Not lightning quick but quicker than the likes of Gus. I think he would strive in a new environment and could be definitely worth a punt. But still, I'd like to see us get at least 2-3 more midfielders\running players in the draft as well and concentrate more on trading for picks than established players.

I agree, i would love 2 c young Monfries get a turn in the centre.
As for the pace of our mids... well we need a few mids in this years draft.
Gibbs is the obvious option but carlton have 1st crack at him.
I wouldnt mind picking up Selwood either, he looks like he has a lot of potential.
And also a young N.T boy in this years draft called Djerrkura, he's lightning quick, Essendon should pick him up at pick 18-20... either 1.

If I remember correctly he spent a bit of time in the middle in a couple of the preseason games at the start of the year and he and Jobe looked very comfortable together in the midfield, monfries was very impressive in the sydney game at optarse oval I think it was.

gus can play in the middle in burst. he is not strong enough to play as a permanent midfielder and i am pretty sure that club want to look after his shoulder a little more. because he is not that big and puts his body on the line every time ho goes for the ball he just needs to bulk up a bit more befire he goes in there. probably another 2 pre seasons.

If he has another Pre-season like last year he'll definately bulk up for next season. His size hardly matters if you've seen the way he goes in and under for the ball.

Monfries is 7cm taller than Peter Bell (182-175) who is and has been and fantastic midfielder over the last 8-9 years. Angus also goes in very hard for the ball, his height will not be an issue.

Monfries, i think will go in the midfield in the pre-season.
But he might just play in the middle in bursts throughout the season.
I'd like 2 c him in the middle quite often though, he's a grat player with potential & a bright future ahead of him.

Dempsy
Dyson
These guys are the future of Bomberland, We just need a few more fast Midfield Draft Picks.
Eg. Gibbs, Selwood, Djerrkura, those types of players.

Monfries prefers to play in the middle. He has ambitions to play there in the very near future. I for one would back him in to dish it out for a quick clearance...even at his young age. Definitely his star is on the rise.

Which is why Id like us to retain JJ. Give the young brigade a little protection in the middle. If we could have someone like a Jolley, Nash or Lee hold down a defensive position, even MJ could drift inthe middle for some added reinforcement when the youngsters are tested by more seasoned opponents.
