They have been calling in since Rnd 1 and they have a very valid point!

I hate the new ticket pricing structure.

Most of our games are classed A & B meaning higher prices.

Exactly.
Fossil & I will be getting to the game early so we can get some decent seats
(And because it takes him ages to walk to the ground with his zimmer frame)

Nothing will keep me away from a Carlton/Essendon game. If it was played at 3am on a Tuesday I'd be there.
I'll only get about 5 hours sleep before work on Monday, but I'll just have to deal with it.

Make coffee your friend MEB_

I can go last minute having MCC Membership (as well as Captains Club) but I don't know how I will be feeling from the night before.

School holidays?

For me this is the bullshit premise the AFL are clinging to. They keep saying but it is school holidays this time around. The reality is getting home around midnight school holidays or not is still late for kids. Add to that the parents that aren't on holidays and it is not a very practical timeslot. I reckon the AFL are playing a dangerous game here, they seem to be of the belief that the game is so big that all people just plan their lives around it. There are other realities in play for many and I do believe they are turning people away from the game they love. This week is round 3 and I would normally have attended at least 2 games, I will not have attended any this season. Will be extremely interested to see what the crowd is like and would say if they get 50K the fans are voting with their feet as the first up clash of these two teams would normally draw 70K plus!

Does anyone out there have an appreciation for how cash is generated through the AFL these days? Paging The_Wookie

On a consolidated basis, does the AFL + Club (After distributions) monies benefit more from bums on seats in a stadium....or on the couch at home?

Current trends would suggest the latter as a key push for "primetime" TV slots being given the priority over ease of accesibility for club supporters.

Also worth noting for those worried about a late finish - the game starts 30-35 minutes earlier than a normal friday/saturday game (or our most recent thursday night game).....

Not going due to poor time slot, Work, kids home late.....just not good enough. 3 weeks in a row.......:thumbsdown:

Port Sunday night
Richmond Thursday night
Essendon Sunday night.

Ridiclous....

a stadium is limited to it's capacity. but a broadcast can be viewed infinitely. TV has a million times the earning potential of the live audience.

No I'm not. I'd be there for any regular timeslot - but Sunday night does not compute for me. I will be watching it from the comfort of my lounge room, just as the AFL intended.

TV rights are a one off payment, whereas tickets are paid per view in a stadium. TV has the potential, but with a limited population, the upside is somewhat limited without moving to international viewers (where a sunday night prime spot has no effect).

My question was from a purely monetary perspective.....at an average cost of circa $40 per ticket, how does this rank compared to the price per game recieved as part of the TV rights.

Just as extension to this game, how the hell does Carlton get two Sunday night games, a Thursday night game and a Monday night game all the first 8 weeks of the season. I don't mind the Richmond game as it's now the norm, but the other 3 can GAGF.

No bloody wonder the crowds are down - judging by the response on here the MCG will be lucky to get 70k on Sunday night.
Its crap isnt it? Why do we get such shocking scheduling? We also have a Sunday night game against Collingwood and a Monday night against St Kilda. The prices of the reserved seats is a joke, twice as much to sit in the same seats as last year. Having said that yes i am going, only because i dont start work until late on Monday. I am just about over footy at the moment, we get treated like rubbish.

I've got numerous mates, Essendon and Carlton, who go to every game who aren't going to this one. It's really surprised me how strongly people are against it.

Good call MWNN. I think fans need to vote with their feet.
Already, attendances are well down and the AFL needs to look at the bleeding obvious as to why this would be. (Assuming they still particularly care about how many fans attend the games as opposed to how many are watching the box.)

Having said that, I've decided to go, since being a teacher, I don't have to work on Monday (heh, heh, heh...) and my wife and kids are overseas at the moment, so I have ****-all else to do on Sunday night!
Hopefully with a number of fans staying away, I can get in as a general admission, $$$ being a bit tight right now... ;)

I was really annoyed at the Richmond game, i paid $24 to upgrade to a seat, nearly double what it cost last year. The only area for general admission was a few sections on the top of the Southern Stand and the Ponsford Stand was less than 1/4 full. If you go to the MCG website it is saying that a crowd of 65,000 is expected for this game and general admission at this stage is in the Southern, Olympic and Ponsford stands. I am going to take my chances and just turn up.

Shame it has no film in it! :D
It has film. If those films ever see the light of day...

Let's just say even a certain someone currently enjoying Cognac and croissants on the Champs Élysées would be truly 'shocked to be sitting there'...

I'm fortunate that whilst I start work at 9am, I don't have to get up early as my commute into the office is only about 20 minutes.
Gives me plenty of time to get home, unwind and still get to bed at a reasonable hour.
But why Carlton have been drawn these horrible timeslots is beyond me.

Are we as Carlton supporters being paranoid or do we always seem to draw the short straw?

I'm not going to bother upgrading for a reserved seat on Sunday night. I'm going to the NB's at Visy and then make my way to the MCG after that. Should give me plenty of time to get there and get a decent seat in GA. The AFL can GAGF if they think they're going to get anymore money out of me.
