So ******* jealous. Would be perfect to walk in the door at 5.50 and catch the first ball with that first drink.
My point isyeah but what's his record as a leg spinner?
You have to measure up experience in England against experience at Test LevelSerious question - If The Ashes are about "win now", rather than developing for the future, then wouldn't it be logical to pick a bloke who has vast experience and great success in English conditions, eg. Steve Magoffin? Or is it just "assumed" or somehow "known" that he'd somehow not cut it against England in England, despite having success bowling against English players in English conditions?
Magoffin's bowling numbers in the County Championship (all Division One) from 2012-Present - 1,899 overs, 523 maidens, 5,023 runs, 246 wickets (12 5-fers) - 20.42 average, 2.65 economy rate, 46.32 strike rate.
I guess I'm not really strongly arguing that Magoffin deserves to be in ahead of our current Test players, just moreso wondering why these sort of performances (experience and playing to the conditions) rarely seem to see a player come under consideration. If he was putting up those sort of numbers in Sheffield Shield, people would be screaming for him to be in the Test side (or maybe not, purely due to his age).

Sure its preferred if a player has played on English pictures, but you'd much rather select a bloke that has proven to be test match quality
If it's an consolation, Slater was doing his radio show from Brisbane this morning so I highly doubt he'll be there to call the action.
I cannot bring myself to be interested in this series. Can we go at least a year without playing England?
Ummm, we have... Last Ashes Test was in January 2014.
We last played England a matter of months ago.
Yeah, in ODIs.
Which is a form of cricket.
And thus we have not gone a year without playing England.
Well considering this is the Ashes thread, and you were referring to "the series", I assumed you meant Test cricket.
A few random ODIs (that only really served as World Cup warm-ups) don't have anywhere near the importance of the Ashes, either.

Packed grounds and everyone discussing it on social media say otherwise. If you say so.
I am expressing my belief that England never seem to disappear, and thus there is no sense of this being an important series.

Its the bloody Ashes not some sub continent friendly.
Doesnt matter how often its played.
