I thought they should have left him at Shield level for longer. However, it’s clear he’s put a lot of work into his batting and it’s paying off. Good knock so far; hope he cashes in here.

Yeah I disagree but only because the game was being played at the WACA.

There was an argument bringing him to act as a 5th bowler because the tracks here are very batsmen friendly and working your top line bowlers into the ground isn't traditionally a recipe for success. He's worked on his batting and this track suits a guy who can play straight with a strong bat and is good square of the wicket on the back foot. I would have said the same about Bancroft and SMarsh but they both got themselves out ona wicket that should have suited them.

I do think the rationale for MMarsh's selection isn't as strong for either Melbourne or Sydney, so I'm not sure which way the selectors will go

That and I loved Damien Martyn through offside.

**** Damien Martyn was good on his day. The shit attitudes of the Australian cricket public cost him 30 tests and ended his career halfway through an Ashes series.

And look at this thread we still haven't learned.

The fact that Shield success doesn't guarantee Test success is beside the point, and the sort of argument people who don't watch the Shield resort to. The point is that Marsh failed at Test level because he lacked temperament and struggled off the back foot, and anyone who'd seen him play recently would have known that he has improved both those things exponentially.

Maxwell was never competing against Marsh, because Maxwell is not a fourth pace option. If they didn't want four pacemen, Marsh wouldn't have been selected.

If he's a fourth pace option, he needs to be better than 0/43 off 9 overs. Maxwell could bowl 0/43 off 9. He's doing well with the bat, and I'm happy to see him doing well. I still would have selected Maxwell before him though, and would hardly even consider their bowling.

Bit before my time unfortunately.

Lara comes to mind when I think of my favourite on-drive.

Ponting for the pull shot. M Waugh off the pads. D Martyn for the cover drive.

Brendan Julian had the sweetest cover drive I've ever seen on any batsman. Down on one knee, magnificent style and loads of power. Just poetry to watch.

I hate measured and valuable 50's.

I'd much rather a scratchy single figure score.

It's like they feel the need to remind everyone how they were against Marsh's selection because Bancroft keeps failing.
