Progress scores at Tea, Day 5. Mofra might still be best placed because he has a power play coming up but RandomDog has the runs on the board!
Other Power Plays this final session are ossie_21 and Snarls Barkley.

Ripping match. Test cricket is in a good place at the moment.

A bloody good team effort to get up and win that one in the 4th innings.

My only pushback would be that there is only three teams that are any good, but god we’re getting treated to some great matches when those teams meet each other.

This Test was an all time classic. Hard to think of a more even contest. In the last two days there was 17 partnerships, none were bigger than 61 and none were smaller than 11. Whenever one team seemed to get ahead of the game, there was a wicket and suddenly it was even again. Winviz pretty much sat between 45%-55% win probability for both sides for the last two days, until they got us 8 down.

When Carey went out I almost cave in and went to bed. Decided to push through and glad I did. Have been absolutely useless at work so far and it’s probably not going improve as the day drags on haha.

Yeah I wish I'd stayed up to experience it live but I'd be RS right now if did. You summed up my thoughts exactly regarding the seesaw nature of the match. A ripper, and a credit to both sides.

I have a new punchable head though ... his name is Ollie. Handy player but a turd. Don't mind the rest of the poms, even Broad who has been our nemesis so often. Good players who are helping make the game so exciting again.

ASHES COMP RESULTS - FIRST TEST

Like the test itself our little comp was in the balance right to the finish. In the end RandomDog held on from the fast finishing Mofra by 221 points. ossie_21 was a respectable third with a strong Power Play finish.

It was sort of appropriate that a random selection could take out the comp. It really was that even. The only essential ingredient was Khawaja who of course was our player of the match, in line with the official awards.

I'm pretty sure all these results and computations are correct but I haven't done a detailed check so if you notice anything that doesn't seem right do let me know and I'll check it out (I'm awaiting the inevitable scam attempt from grassman75 !)

It was a bit of fun. Are you happy to go again for the next test folks? We'll have a test by test winner and a series winner if we can stick it out that long. Not sure how we'll go with the third test as I'll be interstate but I'll figure out something. Maybe I'll put it up on Googlesheets...

Thanks DW,

Appreciate the effort. Happy to go again and I'll get a provisional team in early in case I forget.

Labuschagne
Head
Green
Carey

SECOND TEST

OK who's in for the second test?
Rules will be pretty much the same but I'm going to tweak it ever so slightly ... bowlers get 20 points for a first innings wicket and 22 points for a second innings wicket. I might also change the way the power play works (mainly for coding convenience) but I'll let you know before the game starts if that's the case.

Here are the multipliers for the second test players. I'm assuming Boland is out and Starc is in. If any other changes are announced I'll publish new multipliers ASAP.

For anyone new who wants to know how it all works the rules can be found here.

Just list your four players by posting here, and you're in! Test starts tomorrow night (Wednesday).

Here’s the planned changes.

Bowlers get 20 for a first innings wicket (was 18) and 22 for a second innings wicket (was 20).

6 points for a stumping (was 7).

No power play session. Reason is that it creates a whole new dataset (time based scores) which complicates things far too much. Instead you nominate a power player before the game. He gets a 50% bonus for you on every point he accumulates over the whole test. It means you can set and forget at the start of the test. No need to think about when to announce a power play session, which is problematic considering play goes until about 3am! Also sessions can be cut short by rain or bad light.

Presentation of progressive scores should be simpler as a result.

EDITED:
Anyone who forgets to nominate their power player will get the one in their team with the lowest multiplier. (Alphabetical order on surname if equal) the first player they named in making their picks.

RandomDog's Power Player is Cummins (being the first name he drew out of the dog bowl)

OK folks only 3 hours to the start of play.

If I don't hear from you I'm rolling over the First Test teams of the following (with PowerPlayer shown in bold):

Mofra - Head, Carey, Boland, Khawaja (you will get the sub if Boland doesn't play, if he does play his multiplier is 24)
Wocka - Green, Smith, Labuschagne, Khawaja (but I think you were planning to post your second test team this evening weren't you Wocka?)
Snarls Barkley - Green, Lyon, Labuschagne, Carey
Cudi - Smith, Carey, Labuschagne, Boland (as above, a sub may be needed for Boland)
Next Waiting - Green, Hazlewood, Labuschagne, Boland (ditto)

And I'm picking:
Head (PowerPlayer)
Smith
Starc
Carey
So that means our field would look like this (provisional rollovers shown in blue):

Hey DW,

Slight change of strategy with the new rules. Can I please have:

Khawaja
Smith (Power Player)
Labuschagne
Head

Thanks

Hey Mofra and Cudi - if nothing heard from you before the first ball is bowled (in about 5 mins) your sub for Boland will be Cummins.
