as a non-foxtel watcher, I would like thank the Federal Government for changing the anti-siphoning rules. Also allows me to watch Melbourne vs GWS on 7 mate..if i wanted to. Now..how can I fit a nights worth of cricket in before i have to get up at 5 for work? 'Carn Sidds and Starc, rip thru them Pommie bastards!!

Channel 9 missing the first ball here in WA was a disgrace. One of the things I look forward to most is the anticipation and build up to the first delivery and ads were shown instead. Absolutely diabolical!

Was this everyone except me? The coverage came on as he was bowling the first delivery, as far as I recall.

I am very happy with Sky's coverage. No cutting to the 3:20 at Haydock or going off to some minority channel nobody receives or a soap opera aimed at teenagers. Might need to tone down the rev counter though...

Loving the HD on GEM in my region, only sport broadcast in HD (barring the American stuff on ONE). Shits all over the football coverage.

I totally agree. The quality is super sharp and clear that you dont need to squint your eyes to see it better (7's football coverage is shit compared to this).

This.

In addition I actually enjoy Nasser Hussain, Bumble, Gower et al as commentators. They are very knowledgeable without taking themselves too seriously, unlike their Australian counterparts. Botham gives me the irrits (Sp?) but I can live with that.

One thing, that f*cking Davey Warner add, WTF, every break they showed it. Poor bloke can hardly speak.

Cant take him seriously in a suit.

'Keeps me going harder for longer'

lulz

The worst part about the Warner ad is when he says 'stay harder longer'.

Reminds me constantly of my inability to please women.

I think your women are pleased you don't go any longer.

Some of the voices on the ABC/BBC radio coverage are horrific. Just completely unlistenable. I don't know names, because ABC were back in the studio for the 2 commentator change overs that I heard.

It was a relief when Jim Maxwell came on... but then he just made error after error. He wasn't doing the ABC proud last night.

that beer commercial where 'every slab wins' was very annoying, especially when they played it twice during 1 block of commercials.

Where we at?

Any Kerry O'Keefe action?

Everyone treats cricket differently, I much prefer the BBC commentators.

Jonathan Agnew is IMO the best ball-by-ball commentator in the world. (Though i do love Harsha as well)

Henry Blofeld has a fairly pretentious voice, but actually isn't too bad.

Jim Maxwell is the third ball-by-ball commentator and is obviously class

The only one I normally struggle with is Boycott - but even he was hmourous last night.

Phil Tufnell had his knickers in a twist, but he is normally good listening.

After spending a little more time listening to the radio coverage yesterday, I think you're probably right.

But I just find it "off putting" I guess that, to watch the tv, Strauss, Botham, Bumble etc all speak with a fairly standard 21st century British accent.

There are a couple on the radio that sound like they're doing a 19th century radio play.

Aggers is quite simply outstanding. Indeed I suspect that despite the banter between Aggers and Boycott, many younger viewers might not realise he played test cricket putting in the same bracket as the likes of Benaud and Martin Brundle in F1. We're very lucky with TMS but I'm not too keen on the new brigade (Ed Smith and the dreadfully voiced Charles Dagnall).

Some of his writing (how he likes to take a broad look at cricket e.g. using examples from baseball) does come across in his commentary but I think given that, he'd be better off as a summariser and not one of the ball-by-ball commentators. He maybe isn't too bad but I've got used to Aggers, Blowers, Simon Mann and CMJ (may he rest in peace) before that.

What I'd like to see is the BBC going for the best local cricket commentators to eventually replace departing comms - fair play to them for broadcasting every county game online now.
