We have been doing this on another forum with mainly England fans, and the majority there are going for Aussie victories. I want to know what the opinion is amongst Aussies and why, although I think I may be able to predict them :p ;)

Vote...

Oops, forgot an option.

0-0 won't happen so pretend that means 'AUSSIES BY 5 TESTS'. If a mod would change it would be appreciated.

I've been saying it for nine months, no reason for me to change.

Australia to win 3-1....
AUS Win in Brisbane
AUS win in adelaide
ENG win in Melbourne (Eddie and Browney canc elebrate at the G)
AUS win in Sydney

Reasons:
1. Australia is going to have the hunger to get the Ashes back. A combination of England playing well, plus complacency gave the result to England last times.

2. Playing on home soil is a huge edge.

3. Top order will not be as fragile...expect big series from hayden and Langer (in what should be their final series) and Hussey, to join with Ponting

4. Australia quick bowling seems to be coming into form (this is a new reason)- Tait and Johnson could add a new threat to really trouble England.

5. England not performing to the level they did last year, especially with the bowling. England will miss Simon Jones badly.

6. Have to wonder if there might be some dressing room difficulties if Giles and Jones are [preferred to Read and, more so, Panesar. Fletch's choices maybe causing problems- and the stories about Vaughan surfacing now....

7. The injuries the English bowlers are carrying, especially Flintoff.

Yup, Australia is a year older, and Mcgrath has not bowled in a four day match in a few months, but see my first reason- they will have motivation as a driving force, to beat England and stick their nose in it.

It will depend on who wins Brisbane.

If Australia wins the first test they will win the series which has been a familar pattern for over a decade.

I think it might be a 3-1 result.

Australia to win the first test easily and set a positive tone for the series 1-0

Whoever bats first in Adelaide will win the test. I think with australia taking 2 spinners to adelaide will bamboozle england. 2-0

Australia will handle the bounce of the WACA wicket better then the english and post a formiddable score in there first innings. Australia to be declared the Ashes winner 3-0

Melbourne to be a draw after a closely fought game and rain. still 3-0

England to win the last test in sydney like they did last time.

Australia wins 3-1

******** I can't wait for this!

First day of the Adelaide test, lining up at 6am to get good seats in the Members, Aussie flag draped over me, drinking to start as soon as we enter the ground. Atmosphere is going to be amazing. Will continue onto town afterwards :thumbsu:

I don't think England can win a test, they might be able to draw 1 or 2 but the Aussies will take back the Ashes.

Nothing like getting in early with the Members....loved the test Breakfast in Brisbane...usually rocked up by 7 AM and had a cold beer in my mitts by 7:01.....

I'm jealous....

Australians are getting to cocky. Don't forget that the poms outplayed us in 4 of the 5 tests. Ponting, Gilchrist and Lee are out of form. Warne, Hayden and Langer haven't played international cricket for some time. The poms are just warming up and we retain the ashes again.

England win by 1 test

Australia 3-2.

The series will be alive for the final test with Australia winning that.

I just can't see England losing them all.

Australia are getting cocky or it's just us fans? The players themselves are playing everything down like they usually do, no sight of them being to cocky yet mate.

Before the last ashes Australia were doing everything they were now, looking impossible. It was expected that we would have won the series but England came out of no where. Australia took this years ICC trophy seriously while England were in 2nd gear. Australia are aging and will fall short again.

They didnt come out of nowhere they had been beating everyone home and away for two years it was just the Australians chose to overlook that fact .

If England can survive the initial assault Aus will have all the pressure from fans and media and the age factor will start to tell .If Aus win the first I think it is over .
We just dont know

3-1 to Australia.

I think England will be able to compete day by day and I'd surprised if the Aussies managed to hand out more than one hammering but really I don't think England will have quite enough class to stop Australia regaining the Ashes.

The loss of Simon Jones and a bowling attack full of players coming back after injuries, combined with Fletcher's messing about will be just a bit too much to over come.

I'm generally positive about England's cricket at the moment though. The likes of Cook, Bell, Pietersen and Panesar are gaining experience all the time and we still have some good young players waiting on the sidelines.

hmmm...i'm not going to make any early predictions

gutless, i know, but i just dont want to fall into the trap of underestimating the opposition or falling for any wounded duck routines from Fletcher

he's a canny wee bastard and i get the feeling he's comfortable in the shade of the underdog status - i wonder if perhaps Fletch has been ever-so-slightly exaggerating the plight of the tourists?

i mean vaughan is flying over and flintoff and giles seem to have been bowling ok - sure Jones is a blow but the addition of Panesar, Mahmood, Anderson and Cook adds greater depth to the squad we faced last year

i think we'll win but we will need to fight for it - i believe England will play with more belief and much less fear in this series as Botham has already indicated

can't wait!

Australia 4-0, with a drawn test due mainly to rain.
Reason being conditions over here aren't reverse swing friendly, apart from the gabba where Warne dominates anyway.
England won't have the bowling attack to worry Australia over here.

I think a lot of people here are underestimating the Poms. We have such an arrogant superiority complex that could well be our undoing. Exactly like it was in England in 2005.

How anyone can predict a 5 test demolition is beyond me. The Poms are better than that, and the Aussies are only a couple of injuries away from having a lack of bowling depth exposed.

I think the Aussies will win 2-1, but it will be hard fought.

Thank you Pidgeon :thumbsu:

I got the last Ashes series correct so I'll give it another go. England's batsman hold the key imo. If they perform I think they can retain the Ashes. If not Australia should win.

Being an England supporter I'll go with the English batsman to perform well against an ageing attack and draw the series 2-2 and retain the Ashes. :thumbsu:

I'm Looking forward to it. I've got tickets for the first and third days at the Gabba :thumbsu:
