The great Syrian intellectual Yassin al-Haj Saleh, once again tells the truths the genocide-complicit world is determined not to hear.

State extermination, not a “dictatorial regime”

To refer to the Assad regime in Syria as “dictatorial” is a great mistake—indeed, it is the mother of intellectual, political, ethical, and human rights-related errors perpetrated against Syrians at the international level. The Assadist state is based on extermination, not mere “repression,” and as such it is a universal problem rather than an exclusively Syrian one.

To envisage the ruling regime in Syria as a dictatorship is to place it in a broad category applicable to many regimes in formerly colonized countries today, and in Europe itself less than two generations ago. This would normalize Assad’s rule; in fact compliment it; taking away its uniqueness in criminality, and preventing a necessary progression in political thought, at both the Syrian and global levels.

Franco was a dictator, Bourguiba was a dictator, as was Gamal Abdel Nasser, and Tito, and countless others who ruled, or sought to rule, for life, excluding their opponents and restricting political plurality. Yet none of these figures worked to install ruling dynasties, or to make the state their private property, or to make “eternity”1—and the endless war against the future that it requires—a principal objective of their rule

An article by the great Yassin al-Haj Saleh, originally published in February 2017, and truer globally by the day.

Syria is the World, the World is Syria

The forces that invest in fear—forces for whom a fearful atmosphere is the preferred, natural political environment—regard the stranger, the immigrant, and the refugee as a danger, a source of pollution. “Never again,” it seems, does not apply to the Syrians. They are utterly exposed, and their extermination is not a big problem.

The world that left Syria to shatter has in so doing become more Syrian itself, and is walking on the path of self-destruction. The world’s reserves of hope, altruism and confidence appear to be at their lowest levels since at least World War II, and despair, selfishness, fear of the future and distrust of the neighbor are progressing in the world.

In our view as Syrians: the world is a Syrian issue. It sounds like I said something the wrong way around there, but I did not. The world is a Syrian issue. The main issue is no longer Syria, it is the world. What we need to do is change the world that prevented change in Syria. This is simple logic. And since it does not appear that there are opportunities for liberatory change in the world today, it is likely that we are going to face more globally-spread fear, despair and hatred, more violence and humiliation, more hardened souls and insensitivity. Trump has been elected in America, and maybe soon Fillon in France—the rise of the populist right in Europe and the triumphal ascendancy of Putin and Bashar Assad, Netanyahu and Abdul Fattah el-Sisi: these are all dreadful signs of a progressively shattered world.

The world would rather maintain Assad's fascist regime than allow Syrians to have the freedom that is all peoples' birthright. And now the same fascism is going global.

Humanitarian crisis in Syria worst in world, Assad blocks aid to civilians

LOL.....You just keep on getting worse & worse with this crap.

There's been a humanitarian crisis going on in Syria now, for some 7 years....And it has everything to do with Western powers wanting to steal their oil.

Considering one of your heroes, Garage, has spoken in favour of NATO last night and how important NATO is for Europeans as a protector! lol..Europe wants to have its own army, Garage doesn't want that. He wants NATO to stay in Europe. NATO is only a tool for Americans for defending their Empire even at the expense of Europe security and interest and not for defending Europe. Instead of "protecting" Europe , what NATO is pushing is for provoking a war between Russia and Europe ,by deploying military at Russia borders. So is clear American/British intentions are clear as water to provoke Russia with NATO ,the more the better ,and destabilize key zones in Europe where Russia have legitimate interest ,to force Russia to take action in defense of their allies.

And these are the kind of war mongers you support cause it supports your political views. Cool.

Farage is no hero of mine....We simply agree on England's position with regards the E.U

While the world watches Putin's World Cup, Assad and Putin are razing Daraa just as they did Homs, Aleppo, Ghouta, and towns and villages across Syria, with the usual complicity of the 'international community'

Syrians can't be "safely" sent home as long as Assad is in power. Two US presidents and the rest of the world chose to betray them for the sake of selfies with Putin and worthless "legacy deals". Rather than support freedom, the world chose to support his objective of resurgent global fascism.

Syrians, like Palestinians, won't forget or forgive this monstrous evil.

Syrian refugees could turn into the new Palestinians

Your a bit slow John h your jihadi buddies have been getting cleaned up for weeks in Daraa already ... thought you might have been liberated for a bit there

The world's complicit silence has enabled Assad and his backers to perpetrate these Industrial-scale cleansing over and over for seven years and counting in Assad's ongoing internationally-assisted Nakba, rubber-stamped by the UN and the international community.
I don't think the world has been silent. There's been plenty of noisy outrage and condemnation. The question is: what should the world do or have done five years ago? Should there have been a US-led military intervention with the objective of regime change?

I don't have a decent answer on Syria. But short of a war for regime change or somehow persuading Russia to persuade Assad to go into exile, what is the "solution"?

Maybe for the Yanks to start obeying both their own constitution & U.N international Law, by pissing-off out of a country they had no right to be in, in the first place.

Duh!
