Just heard that too and if true, a very soft appointment. This club ain't going nowhere until the current admin is cleared out.

How is it a very soft appointment. He is clearly highly rated and Richmond the best club the last 6 years wanted him back. Stop the negative bullshit

Will be a good appointment if true. His cards were marked at Essendon before he even coached a game. He had no hope there.
Rutten is now the most likely man to lead us in 2024. Ken will not get a new contract unless we make a grand final. Even then, the fact we haven’t reappointed him prior to to the prelim makes it untenable for him to continue.
Most coaches are better second time around- Malcolm Blight, Leigh Matthews, Mick Malthouse, Michael Voss. He would have to be the most successful assistant in the last decade, or close to it. In 12 months he will know our strengths and weaknesses better than anyone. It would take Hardwick himself or a real surprise candidate to have a better CV than Rutten in 12 months.
Rutten is probably the best senior assistant out there so the negative nancies here should put up (a better solution that is available) or shut up.
My only concern is my long held view that our group needs a scary coach who gives tough love and not a nice guy coach.

I actually like it alot. He's very worldly now, he seem's like he is a a bit of a cuddly personality which could pair well if we get a bit of a karnt post Hinkley like a Nathan Buckey. He coached for 2 years, 1 of which was well above par for the front running spuds, the other ... basically on par.

I think this is a pretty big assumption. No-one has gotten another senior gig within 2 seasons of being sacked
I may be in the minority but ridiculous if true. Essendon is an absolute bin fire.

Not arguing but what definitive info do you have to support that comment.Truck unlikely to dare question anything or anyone at the Club, much less King Ken, so a safe choice there
Would assume someone like Solomom would be too much of a threat to the King, vis-a-vis Schoey.

Not surprised he didn't make it as a senior coach but it's possible he's a very good assistant and that's his level. Anyone who Hardwick would have next to him is someone you'd look at.
Port will touch base again with Jaymie once Freos season is over no guarantee he will go to Port however but he is definatelty open for another chat about moving over
maybe Port may hire a couple of new assistants
