Ross I think it's time to restump, rewire and replumb the clowns around you.
I have to agree with this. Our assistants really aren't up to scratch, and the sooner we change them, the better it'll be long term for the kids developing in the team. Even in areas we have real talent, like the midfield, the game plan's gone to shit and the players look lost. Kirky was amazing and it's a real shame we lost him to Sydney.

Forward assistant coach - J LO
Mid assistant coach - James Kelly
Backline assistant coach - Elvis .

Should had the forward line dancing and backline singing next year.

Kelly has no coaching experience, Elvis has 1 year as a WAFL assistant at the wooden spoon club and we shipped JLo off years ago. We need to get serious and get some decent quality in there.

I don't think too many are sold on Hale. Poor entries are a big part of it but we aren't creating good options often enough. Hale to me reeks of grabbing someone from Hawthorn in the midst of a very high scoring era for them, with no shortage of dominant forward options. He must know how to get us the goals, right?

For someone who seemed to have been directly coached and trained by Monkhorst at Hawthorn I have zero clue how this qualifies him to have any knowledge of being a forward coach or knowing anything about forward game-plans and structure. He played the same in every game at Hawthorn, rucked most of the game - was the marking target down the line and then was rested forward where he would always kick a goal from a set shot. So he goes from playing 90% Ruck 10% Forward as a player straight into a Forwards Coach role here? Absolutely baffles me. I think we for some reason thought it was smart to grab ex-Hawthorn system people but we bombed out and went for the bottom of the barrel. We need to stop giving this guy his paycheck and seek proven alternatives.

What about Priors performance? We've leaked goals this year and our ball movement coming out of defence other than a few games hasn't improved one bit. The ease at which the Tigers got shots away once inside 50 today was incredible! They only had 9 more inside 50's but scored 70% of the time they went in. He has to go IMO.

Hale had a small role in his first year with us and then was promoted this year so they saw something they liked. He's young and obviously still learning but his performance, all things being equal, hasn't been any worse than his predecessor's. Either we get someone for this role that's higher credentialed than Hale or we stick with him through his development.

Rock came to the club with very little to write home about on his CV but he's a mate of Ross and some say he's a "yes" man. But he hasn't done a bad job imo.

Stone has been with us for a while and hasn't set the world on fire.

Eastaugh can probably go if Sandi has any coaching prowess.

Not sure what our high performance coaching director has been up to so I can't say if he's worth hanging on to. He's unobtrusive that's for sure!

I'd like to see changes/improvements to our medical and fitness teams.

I think the parts of the puzzle appeared to be there with Hale. Did the teaching degree (didn't he?) so passing knowledge is a sort of tick. Did his coaching accreditation tick. Knew goal/forward entry/ruck techniques in a cutting edge and modern, successful system.

Ostensibly, he should be okay. But should isn't the same thing as is.

But from out of the coaching box, how do we know? His forwards aren't getting the ball given to them to do much with, the tools at the disposal aren't equal to the task given - e.g. the bomb it in factor that we had when we knew we didn't have anyone capable of marking those, or what should be chest marks consistently falling short a couple of meters today (kicked above their heads for most of the year). Even if he had plans so cunning that you could stick a tail on them and call them weasels, he has to do it within the confines of master plans run by other people - etc.

The problem is there's faults both ways of the play. Simply put the forwards aren't leading properly and when they decide to they don't get proper delivery - which is why both coaching positions need to be seriously re-evaluated.

Yeah kinda.
McCarthy spills a chest mark when someone finally hit one, then the next one is three feet short.

All of them playing without confidence and skill

McCarthy is an exception. He's been shit and spilling marks all year. Although yes I agree, the skill of these players seriously needs to be worked on in the off-season. Ross needs to start replacing the word effort with skill because effort only goes so far.

But we don't know if the lead patterns, instruction to Crozier to constantly fly instead of crumb etc are top down directives and Hale has to coach accordingly - or are the result of Hale.

I don't know, I think Prior is harder to gauge given the current makeup of the backline, the inexperience and changing around that is. But all is not right, and yeah we are leaking goals, and yeah our movement out of defence has been awful. That in particular has been really hard to watch and jarring to see the opposition do it with ease.

Something has to change, we need one or two new thinkers. I think the void Brett Kirk left behind has been immense, and his absence telling.

I was thinking about the high performance director the other day. We announced that appointment to great fanfare at the end of last year and he's no doubt on a reasonable salary but I'd love to know what he spends his days doing. Certainly low profile. I understand the role is supposed to be "coach to the coaches" rather than coaching the player floater group but similar roles in other clubs seem to have more of a public profile.
