yep. only one women golfer has pulled out at this stage. Zika is more of a threat for pregnant females than anyone else.

all about the schedule and the majors. the golfer admin and players have both stuffed this opportunity up.

Considering he spends a fair amount of time in Florida - a high zika zone, it's not about the virus

Cate Campbell putting a massive target on her back. Just stay off twitter Cate

Australia's Cate Campbell has set a new 100m freestyle world record at the Brisbane Grand Prix on Saturday night.
Former world champion Campbell clocked 52.06 seconds, eclipsing German Britta Steffen's old mark of 52.07 set at the 2009 world titles during the now banned supersuit era.

Brian Taylor reckons Pearson faked her injury (or at least way overplayed it) to get out of the Games because she'd lose a lot of sponsor money if she bombed out in the early rounds.

He went on to say there was recent footage of her on the news doing a full arse-to-heel squat a couple of times to pat a dog, which he reckons is virtually impossible to do with a torn hamstring.

Yeah looked it up after posting that, a long time!

Mark Stockwell pipped at the post by Rowdy Gaines in the 1984 LA games, Eamon Sullivan by Alain Bernard of France at 2008 Beijing Games, and James Magnussen by Nathn Adrian at the 2012 London Games.

Sullivan and Magnussen went into the event as reigning world record holders.

100 metre freestyle is a tough gig and our guys always seen to come up short, hope McEvoy has what it takes :thumbsu:

Pearson has been running like crap anyway. So why bother flogging a dead horse.

And according to some flog journo on "Outsiders" (ABC) last Sunday, at least we're spared the Jana 'Drama' Pittman saga eh?

pretty harsh, considering pearson's only ever been a complete professional throughout her career

My, we're very touchy in here. My point was there wasn't any chance of "throwing away of the crutches" for the cameras but let's all have a one more big cry over Pittman as if she stole our bloody lunch money. Geez!

Stockwell was unlucky, the south American starter was notoriously quick, not letting swimmers set properly, and Gaines and his coach knew that from the Pan-Am Games and prepared for it. Stockwell and others filed for a false start protest, but it was rejected.

Sullivan chocked somewhat as he set a WR in the lead off leg of the 4 x 100m relay 47.2x on the first night of swimming and then broke it again with a 47.05 in the 2nd semi final, after Bernard broke his WR set in the relay with a 47.20 in the 1st semi. Bernard swam 47.21 in the final and Sullivan 47.32. But Bernard would have been fired up from the relay. He swam a great final leg of 46.6x, I think it beat the previous fastest relay flying start leg, but Jason Lezak for the yanks swum an amazing 46.06 and swum down Bernard to win by 0.08 of a second. The Australians were over a second behind the French despite Sullivan's lead off leg and world record. In 2012 the French sought revenge in the relay and beat the Yanks by half a second but Bernard only swam the in the morning heat not final.

In 2012 Magnussen went in favourite, but all the stillnox BS and his own arrogance and chocking caught up with him. He bombed in the relay final, swum almost a second slower than his world best time in the lead off leg, was beaten by yank Adrian who also swum the lead off. Magnussen went into the Olympics with a world best time of 47.10 and Adrian had never cracked 48. He cracked 48 with a 47.9 in the relay final and then got it down to 47.52 in the final and the Missile went 47.53. Magnussen didn't go into 2012 as WR holder as that belonged to Cielo from Brazil who swam 46.91 at Rome World Champs in 2009 before the fast suits were banned.

McEvoy looks like a bloke with his head screwed on correctly and his 47.04 at the trials is the fastest time since the fast suits were banned and is way ahead of Adrian's time at the US trials of 47.72

Imagine years and thousands and thousands of hours of work basically coming down to one moment in your life of less than one minute..
And you lose by 1/100th of a second or in track cycling where they measure times to the 1/1,000th of a second.

According to this wiki page, 388 people have been or will be selected for the Oz team, once the final nominations for the team sports are filed, given the numbers for these sports will be capped. The men's rowing 8 didn't qualify for the first time since London in 1948 and the women since Barcelona in 1992, which would have got the team over 400, which only and the yanks and host Brazil have cracked this Olympics. Russia would have had over 400 if they were allowed to send an athletics team.

Michael Klim led off with a world record time in the first leg of the 4x100 metres relay at the Sydney Olympics - which was critical in us being able to upset the Yanks.

If you watch the replay of that race, you see all of Klim, Callus, Fydler and Thorpe touch 2nd at the 50m turn, but touch first at the 100m mark.

The replay always brings goosebumps- Great call by Dennis Commetti.

Klim's lead off leg was the key, the Americans were always playing catch up in their first 50 metre legs from then on, and in the second leg they were carrying the piano on their backs for the last 15 or 20 metres.

I think we are a big chance to win it this Olympics as well, might be the the big chance for Magnussen to redeem himself ;):D

Just reading your post gives me goosebumps. That was an incredible olympic moment for Australia and really set up our olympic efforts overall in sydey. I was watching that final at a cousins birthday and there were about 20 of us around the TV yelling and cheering the aussies on.
