We don't have the cattle anymore to dominate. We're back with the pack (and have been for some time). In times gone past we could select the same team trest in test out and they could do the job. Now we don't have that calibre of player, in particular bowlers.
A few of our weaknesses:
1. Can't play swing
2. Can't bowl swing
3. Don't have a spinner
Possible solutions:
1. Have one or two spin friendly pitches in Australia
2. County cricket for our best up and comers
3. Spin bowling academy. Probably need someone better than Gavin Robinson to run it though. Bring in a Saqulain or kadir
4. More practise before tours - either tour matches or practice on similated wickets and same balls. Does make it hard with the intense scheduling though.
These are just off the top of my head without really thinking over pros and cons. What will work? What won't work? What else can be done?
Can we get a 4 year old chinese australian and get Shane Warne to teach him how to spin a cricket ball day in day out for 15 years? How do we find someone who can spin a ball?
