The opening grand slam of the season starts on Monday the 15th of January with record prize money on offer and a host of players heading in under an injury cloud. This could be a nightmare to predict on both sides of the singles draw, Federer will be the favourite but who knows who might reach the semi final stages. Serena, Novak, Murray, Wawrinka, Rafa, Raonic are coming off injury lay-offs and I doubt they will all play in Melbourne.

Defending champions:
Serena Williams and Roger Federer

Groth deserves no special favors from TA

True, but Hewitt and Masur will have the final say in which of the men gets a WC (Molik and Masur decide for the women).

Groth and Hewitt are very tight. He will get a WC. I expect Millman will get the other.

Not good. Very unlikely he'll play at the Australian open this year especially with no preparation.

And I am sceptical about Murray too. Hip injuries are really hard to play through I reckon, even if he plays he won't get through to the final I don't think.

I will be surprised if Murray plays and even makes the 3 or 4th round.

We'll see if he ends up playing in Brisbane
