Agreed. The coaches need to be utilising Bull and Larkey’s strengths higher up the ground and isolating Trem and PC deep inside 50, preferably with a skillful goal sneak lurking for the scraps.Interesting off season coming up.
We looked the most damaging going forward today we have in years, against one of the comps best defences.
Caused them all sorts of problems.
Coincided with Larkey and Zurhaar being out of the side, which is the elephant in the room.
Nick is pretty one dimensional, not an aerial threat and often plays from the back shoulder for goals over the top which means teams intercept for fun.
Zurhaar is essentially a medium forward version of Larkey, with 3-4 absolutely boneheaded F50 entries a week.
Both are good on paper, but there’s an argument to be made they don’t work together or one or both are a big reason for the F50 dysfunction. Both are “good players on paper”
Curtis is and will be our #1 forward for the next 10 years. Hes going to be one of the best forwards in the league for the next 10 years. If he isn’t already. He brings a genuine toughness, he’s also retains the ball in the F50 whenever it’s near him.
We need to build the forward line around him and compliment him.
Not having Larkey or Zurhaar pulling rank, meant he could play from the square, was the top dog flying for marks, he didn’t have Zurhaar flying into him, or Nick pulling rank as the focal point. He’s just a much better footballer than both.
A genuine mobile, contested marking tall next to him in Trembath has meant defenders suck to him
and give Curtis more aerial one on ones.
Again, if we were a serious football club there would be some serious discussions about both players this offseason.
I don’t know if Batch is this as his work up the ground across HF and the wing is really impressive.
Small forward crumber must be a priority with one of our 20s picks.
