Round 12 we turn to Broken for our round review
ROUND 12

The Round 12 match of the round saw the Wonders travel to the Abdu Prison and it was notable for a number of reasons. It was the last regular season game between the Bombers and Wonders before they met in the 2nd Semi Final. It was last seasons premier facing off against, what ended up being, this seasons premier. Mst notable was the controversial dropping of MannumPower and Jonts. Both players were initially named in the lineup, but were dropped prior to lineup submission due to club imposed suspensions. The controversy didn't rattle the Bombers as they were 10 point victors. Doug the Legend was brilliant for the Bombers with 22 touches, 10 marks and 5 goals. beez with 11 tackles, 6 frees and 14 handballs may poll for the Bombers. Frothies McVeigh, ShaunDuggan and Wise Guy Sam could poll votes for the Wonders as they nabbed 33,31 and 29 touches respectively......The Furies came in to Waverley Park on a two game losing streak, but with a 36 point lead at three quarter time had looked to put their poor form behind them. The Hawks had other ideas as they outscored the Furies 7 goals 3 behinds to 5 Fury behinds to record a 3 point Hawks win. Matt121 kicked 3 last quarter goals for the Hawks, akkaps had 20 touches and 3 goals for the Hawks while HawkPatrol/Snappy! and HARPSichord could poll well for the Hawks. Don't expect to see votes for Larrikin who gave away an early free kick, shoved the umpire over and climbed over the fence. Tiglands effort of 14 taps, 27 possessions and a goal may grab him a vote, not sure if Nuffers tally of 2 goals 12 behinds will......The Roys hosted the Demons and were not very gracious hosts as the Roys turned a 12 point quarter time lead in to a 69 point win. The attack on the Demons by the Roys Royboy2 was harder than a honeymooners tool as he racked up 9 tackles along with 31 touches and 3 goals in the standout effort of the game. Cheetah with 17 touches and 4 goals could poll, as could Fred with his 5.2 return. Quivorir, Eth and WaLkEr_ThE_sTaR were busy for the Demons and would be their best hopes for votes here......Completing the round was the Gumbies visit to Dragon Island. The Gumbies came in to this match with a league worst 3-8 record and left with another loss as the Dragons outscored them by 37 points in the last quarter on the way to recording a 37 point win. Best for the Dragons were Gibbsy, The Half Back, Easty and Pie4Life. If a Gumby player was to score votes it could be one of wotdoiput, whoopsman or StFly.

For the first time in a long time we now have a clear cut stand alone top 3 at the top of the tree. Easty’s recent form has been nothing short of amazing taking 14 out of a possible 18 votes in the past 6 rounds. Wise Guy Sam is bravely clinging to his tail and isn’t gone yet whilst Eagleoz83 is taking over the role of unknown Fury at the pointy end of the leadership board. As a side not if you haven’t polled a vote or you’re only on one vote your night is over as it is now mathematically impossible for you to win as you can only poll a maximum of 15 more votes.

ROUND 13

Round 13 of the season got off to a tumultuous start with rumors circulating about possible additions to the league via expansion, with okeydoke7 removing his name from talks by recommitting to the Bombers for another season. The Dragons sat atop the table after an impressive couple of months, but the sharks were in full force and circling, with speculation rife that the side wasn't in favor of Ljp86 remaining as captain and were trying to oust him from the top job. Gumbies forward Winty became the all time Sweet FA leading goal kicker in the Gumbies win over the Roys, in what was arguably the most exciting round of the season 15 calendar.

The Bombers arrived at Dragons Island under cloudy skies and misty rain for the top of the table clash, where a record crowd awaited to see the much anticipated match of the round encounter against the Dragons. With both sides in ominous form and playing for premiership favoritism, it had all the hallmarks of being one of the games of the season. Both sides entered the clash having won 4 of their last 5 matches and looking to consolidate a finals position.

The first quarter lived up to expectation with a battle of will unfolding in the middle of the ground. The Bombers got out to an early 15 point lead at the half way mark of the quarter, before MD and Ljp86 started to get on top of their opponents in the middle, which allowed the forwards to start having an impact on the scoreboard. PooMonkey was continuing his rare form of late to snap through 2 opportunistic goals, while at the other end of the ground Okeydoke7 was in a similar vein of form kicking 2 of his own. In a fiercely contested first 25 minutes, it was the Bombers who went into the first break narrow 3 point leaders.

The second quarter began with the Dragons kicking the first 2 goals through the very dangerous PooMonkey and Speck before a terrible blunder in the backline by the Dragons gifted the Bombers their first major of the quarter. Both sides continued to trade blows before the Bombers hit the front in time on, until a strong mark and late goal from Big Bad Buddy gave the Dragons a 2 point lead heading into the long break. PooMonkey was causing trouble for the Bombers defense to slot through 4 majors for the half, while beez was well on top of his midfield battle to give the Bombers plenty of drive forward of centre, in a Bombers midfield starting to dominate. It was the Bombers inaccuracy and the Dragons quick ball movement from defense which was proving the difference so far in the match.

The Bombers opened the third quarter with all the early momentum but inaccuracy again proved costly, before some smart positional changes by the Dragons allowed them to regain the ascendancy with 2 quick goals. They blew the margin out to a comfortable 16 point advantage at the 12 minute mark of the term after PooMonkey kicked his 5th, as a result of some excellent work in the middle. After Andonis1997 kicked his first to extend the margin to 22 points late in the term, it looked a matter of how far for the league leaders. The Bombers kick 2 late goals through beez and Okeydoke7 through some sloppy defensive work to reduce the margin to 9 points at the last change, in what promised to be an epic final quarter.

The last quarter failed to live up to expectations and was all one way traffic, with the Bombers running all over the ground against a tiring Dragons side, to pile on 5 goals to nil for the term and run out comfortable 21 point victors. It was a breathtaking quarter of football from the Bombers, to see them take a stranglehold on top spot.

It was 3rd v 4th in another battle to determine consequent finals positions. Both sides entering the important clash having only won 2 of their previous five matches, with the Furies on the end of a three match losing streak and looking to reenter the winners list to fend of the chasing pack in the battle for 4th spot.

The Furies kicked the opening goal of the match before the Wonders kicked into gear and proceeded to kick the next four goals and build a comfortable 29 point lead at the 15 minute mark of the term. ShaunDuggan and WGS were well on top in the midfield before a couple of late Furies goals reduced the margin to 17 points at the first change.

The Furies started the 2nd quarter strongly with Eagleoz83 dominating in the middle to reduce the margin to 4 points at the half way mark of the term, before the Wonders steadied again, mainly through the work of PVF to take a 14 point lead into the long break.

DemonJim was proving a handful for the Furies defense early in the 3rd, but couldn't find his range, which allowed the Furies to gain the momentum and kick the next 3 goals to break away to a 10 point lead. The rest of the term was goal for goal, with both midfield locked in a battle of wits and struggling to gain ascendancy. It was the Furies who took the most of their opportunities to take a 1 point lead into what shaped as an epic last term.

The last term was as tough as they come with neither side able to take control. Filthy Sanchez and Eagleoz83 were continually driving the ball forward for the home side, who lead by 6 points late in the match to look all but home, before DemonJim again tied the scores with his second goal of the afternoon with 40 seconds left on the clock to leave both sides deadlocked at the end of the match, in a game that will be talked about for years to come.

The Roys arrived at the House Of Gumby as one of the form sides of the competition and only 2 points adrift of the top 4, in a match that they fancied to continue their winning streak. They were facing a hapless Gumbies outfit entrenched on the foot of the table and playing for nothing but pride, for the remainder of the year.

The Roys hit the scoreboard early and shot out to a 19 point lead after Fat Pizza slotted his first goal for the match, before the Gumbies awoken from their slumber to kick the next 3 goals and hit the lead after cult hero Winty opened his account late in the term to see the Gumbies slender 2 point leaders at the first change.

The Gumbies started in the same fashion they finished off the previous term, with Claypigeon and Watdoiput becoming a huge concern for Roys through the middle of the ground, while Marklar_33 was dominating the ruck. After watdoiput kicked his 2nd goal for the term, the Gumbies broke away to a comfortable lead, that seen them go into half time 17 point leaders and a with a full head of steam.

The Roys began the 3rd term well and looked to be gaining control until Winty kicked his 2nd goal of the match and steady the ship with 8 minutes to play in the quarter. 3KZ is Football then started to take control of the game, and when he found Icefreak, who goaled right on the 3 quarter time siren, the Roys suddenly had the momentum and looked like they'd run out the game the superior side.


The last term opened with Winty kicking his 3rd goal of the game and breaking the all time goal kicking record to the adulation of the crowd to give his side an 11 point buffer. The last quarter was becoming an arm wrestle until Winty again bobbed up to kick his 4th, to give the Gumbies a 17 point lead with 8 minutes left on the clock. The Roys hit back straight away, and when Fred kicked a major with 2 minutes remaining the difference was only 3 points and the match was set for a thrilling finish. With a plethora of players around the contest for the final minutes, the Gumbies held on to win by 4 points and send Winty off in his milestone match with a victory.

The last match of the round seen the struggling Hawks visit the Snow Dome to take on a faltering Demons side sitting just outside the four and needing a win to keep in touch with the other finals aspirants. It was an important match for both sides, and the crowd didn't leave disappointed.

The first quarter was a physical affair with both defenses standing firm. Eth was good in close for the Demons, while Akkaps was having an influence for the Hawks. With scoring extremely difficult in trying conditions for the majority of the term, it took a piece of individual brilliance from Hawks Centre Half Forward Dagless with 20 seconds remaining to give the Hawks a 5 point advantage at quarter time.

Both sides struggled to convert for the first half of the 2nd term, with a howling breeze making life difficult for forwards. 3 quick goals from the Demons including a brilliant snap from the pocket by Lanky_Wes gave the Demons a 9 point advantage late in the term, before Dagless again converted close to the siren to reduce the margin to 2 points in the Demons favor at half time.

It was a case of more of the same in the 3rd stanza, where conditions weren't conducive to free flowing football that both sides are accustomed to. Both sides were throwing themselves at the ball and the contest remained tight, until cats2rise entered the fray with 2 goals in quick succession to give the Demons a rather comfortable 15 point buffer at the 11 minute mark. A momentum shift saw the Hawks lift a cog, and when IMS goaled deep in time on, scores were remarkably level. The Demons then peppered the scoreboard but were inaccurate late, to take a 2 point lead into what would be a thrilling last term.

It was the Hawks who returned the more desperate side, and were dominating the play to break away to a 14 point lead at the 15 minute mark of the term. The Demons however never lied down in a seesawing contest, and after Age of SMD goaled with 3 minutes left, they hit the front and were finishing the strongest. The Hawks tried valiantly in the Frantic final minutes, but it was all in vein as the Demons got up by a point in a classic contest.

What a fascinating turn of events this round was, we’ve gone from a clear cut leader to a three way tie at the top. Which one of these players is going to blink first? We have the two pre count heavy weights in Easty and Wise Guy Sam with Eagleoz83 still hanging about as the surprise packet. Last year we had a two way tie, could we possibly see a three way tie? Those of you under 5 votes consider your night finished, mathematics just turned against you.

Mobbs Medal: S15 round 14

On the eve of round 14 the Mount Buller Demons were again the centre of drama, with young gun Deddy publicly walking out on his club, citing Captain Juggalo Balla and his complete mismanagement as the reason. Mere days after this breaking news, Juggs announces his plan to hand over the demon captaincy to Eth at seasons end, after much speculation and pressure from the SFA public after the ‘Deddy Disaster”.

To make matters worst, the Demons were up against the inform Wonders in the MOTR while being forced to face this distraction, similar to EBIAC walking out just the season before.

The Demons did however seem galvanised by the media scrutiny but in the end it wasn’t enough to beat the eventual reigning premiers, losing by 10 points.

The Roys and Dragons also played a tight, low scoring thriller with the Roys winning by 2 goals with a brave performance, albeit inaccurate, kicking 10 goals 23 behinds. The main culprit Fred, kicking 1 goal 7.
Through out the build up to this match, the ralerly recluse Pantskyle had a lot to say about virtually everything. Often.

Meanwhile in what many consider to be an off peak time slot, the Hawks played the Gumbies in a cracker of a game.

Of course though, nobody gives a shit about this game because both clubs are rubbish.

Apparently the Hawks still had a mathematical chance to make the finals if they suddenly came good, beat the Gumbies and then win there last few games.
Unsurprisingly, they beat the Gumbies. More unsurprisingly, they didn’t win there last few games.

Duds

East Side Hawks 18.13 (121) defeated Geelong Gumbies 15.14 (104)
Likely Vote Getters:NOBODY. If either of these teams had anyone capable of getting a vote this season, perhaps they actually would have won more then the odd token game when an ‘actual’ team rested most of their roster.



Last game for round 14, the serious part of the season for 5 or so clubs, was 2 top 4 sides starting finals early. With all the talk about the Demons and of course the Amazing West Coast Wonders and al their quality superstars, this game was rather unhyped, with both teams mostly keeping to themselves.

The game itself was close but the real highlight was Gee Dub carving up the Furies and continuing their losing streak. GD kicked 4 goals straight, had 20 disposals and won his own ball all day, laying 7 tackles and an egg.

Arch Rivals Okeydoke7 and Filthy Sanchez battled each other all day, neither having much impact and mostly just choking each other regardless of where the ball was.

At the end of last round the question was who would blink first? The answer it appears is Easty who failed to poll a vote in that round. Does this mean our three horse race has turned into two? Fighting Furies V. Mount Buller Demons at Punt Road (Match of the Round!)
A battle for a Finals berth was on hand between The Fighting Furies and The Mount Buller Demons. Although dubbed prematurely as the MOTR due to the potential ramifications on the season as it stands... It seemed both teams lacked that little bit of kick to bring the thread to life. Mount Buller was more than willing to will their troops into battle, whilst the Furies were to be frank... Quite laconic in their attempt at getting under the oppositions skin. Alas, both teams showcased why they are still in the calculations for the Finals with an absolute beauty of a game! The Furies ended up winning in a tight game by eight points, with the final scoreline reading FUR: 17.6.108 def. MBD: 15.10.100.

East Side Hawks V. Southern Dragons at Waverly Park
3rd vs. 7th... Simple really! One team eyes off a double chance in finals Qooty, the other trying to keep the finals dream alive, albeit a slim chance... This game marked the debut of beloved Two-Legged fiend in Karnezis_13 (who now is a Warrior co-founder and ambassador). However that wasn't the only significance in this game, as this game marked the return of boncer34 back to his spiritual home of Waverly Park. A lot of bitterness and resentment was let off in this game, which included the Southern Dragons at the ugly situation RoaringUniLions put the club through, to Itsmyshow and his resentment of the boncer... Alas, amongst all of the bullshit, there was an underlying desire to play some Sweet FA Qooty! As the Hawks jumped out to a very impressive lead early in the game, it was all downhill from there on in, as the Dragons clawed their way back into the contest. The end result was in favour of the Dragons by 11 points, as they won in a tight and skillful contest. The final scoreline read... ESH: 13.9.87 lose to SDR: 15.8.98.

Geelong Gumbies at The ColosseumIn battle between a potential top team and the inevitable wooden spooners, it was to be the West Coast Wonders going toe-to-toe with the Geelong Gumbies! Some headlines that were up and about during this thread were ones containing the excitement for Wonders' sensation in PVF, who was to line-up in his Milestone 50th game! It also marked BoshtrichBurger's first game as a starting ruckman. Going head-to-head against Marklar_33 wasn't going to be an easy feat, so that match-up was going to be one to salivate over! After another very see-sawing affair where both teams went score for score, it was the Wonders who came home with the chocolates, winning by a solitary goal. The scoreline read after the final siren as... WON: 13.13.91 def. GUM: 12.13.85.

Roys FFC V. Baghdad Bombers at Brunswick Junction Oval
The top team in the league had to venture into enemy territory, as the Roys FFC were hosting the Baghdad Bombers! The highly spammable team in the Roys were in for a battle, in hope to disgruntle the Bombers preparation going into finals. Young pantskyle, the elderly statesman in Mobbenfuhrer and the freakish Freakie provided plenty of driving force throughout the thread, and ditto was that for the Baghdadians, with the A*mazing beez, kinky ThePuppetMaster and the Mark Robinson like okeydoke7 trying their best to fornicate the **** out of the Roys! The game itself was one for the ages! It was going to be on from the get-go, with the Roys smashing the reigning premiers from pillar to post! It all ended in misery for the Bombers, as they ran out losing by a thumping 91 points! Final scorecard was ROYS: 23.15.153 def. BOM: 9.8.62.

The Wonders moved into top spot, with the Bombers slipping down to second. The Southern Dragons had stayed neutral in their third positioning, but the biggest mover was the Fighting Furies, who moved into fourth spot on the ladder. The Demons slipped from fourth to sixth in no time, which severely dented their finals hopes.

Overall, an intriguing round which saw plenty of movement in ladder rankings, posters dominating and so on and so forth!
