Would probably need to recruit Matthews from OC as coach to stiffen up defensive game plan. Both capable of leaking goals against the might of teams like Collegians and Old Xavs.
Heard he could take his flooding tactics to a whole new level next season . Not only will he have every player in his back half as we have seen this season but will also push his runner , three trainers , two water boys and will also encourage the second umpire to come down and stand in defence to limit the damage so as not to destroy OC's confidence .

No matter which 2 are promoted, and at the moment I prefer OEG and Marcellin, but the same applies to the snowies should they keep most of their lists intact they will be more than competitive next year in A section. Problems won't surface for 2 or 3 years, Marcellin have very good U/19s playing Premier whereas both OEG and StB u/19s are both struggling.
A bit like the OH situation at the moment, where their future is clouded, aging seniors, ordinary seconds and very ordinary u/19s, they will probably struggle to remain in B section for 2010 without a huge recruiting drive

One of the Sunday papers had Mr. Robert Harvey playing at OH next year to continue the youth push.

not sure about the others but the future looks pretty strong at bernards
the 19's struggled the first half of the year as most of the better players were in the 1's. some of the better and more consistent performers such as caven, overman, jolley still 19's while about 10 of their best 22 are still u/23.
2nd's lost their first game of the year on the weekend so depth is there and i know its a long way off but the juniors have always been strong with the 16 yr olds won the premiership again this yr

Are Bernards ready to go up yet?
Obviously it's good for the club to be in A Grade but surely it is better to develop an experienced team that is ready to play at the level instead of going up and having a season like Uni Blacks.

UB will return to B Grade as a shadow of the team that went up in '07.

HBW, Surely they are ready to go up more so than marcellin or OH?

sounds horribly like mid 2006 to me - about 2 months before we went on an undefeated run and took out A grade you NUFTY ;)

Nothing personal Ammo, I just call 'em like I see 'em.
Anymore old Saints at OH and you'll have to change the team name to St Kilda Old Boys, but St Kev's won't let you use the acronym SKOB's
BTW wasn't that the year you blokes breached the salary cap by handing out $1 million worth of scholarships for the school?
And how can I take a bloke seriously when he gave Marcellin absolutely no chance of beating you 2 weeks ago
Good luck in the finals and in 2009 :thumbsu::D

Excellent post Mixfish, if ever there has been a more meaningless, hollow A Section Premiership handed out it was 2006. Its a bit like Marion Jones, it should be wiped from the VAFA records.
Next year looks a good year in B, with a Rambo less Old Trinity dropping back along with Uni Blacks led by ageing veteran Matt Kempton, who will be around 30 years of age.
It would be great to see Hampton and Oakleigh push through, although I suspect Powells mob will make it back.
SKOB, OC x2 and OMs have an enormous amount of work to do, 7 wins in B Section is a pretty poor season, unless they are content with being mediocre which Im sure they are not.

Our 2006 Flag must really have got up your noses if you are still sooking about it now. If there were players paid then prove it or shut up and move on. Let me assure you there was nothing hollow and meaningless about beating a full strength Old Xavs team four times in a row in one season and getting an A section medal alongside 21 of your mates.:thumbsu:

Brian I don't think I would put Old Carey in the same boat as the other 3 mentioned there??? Finished 5th in first year in B grade in 30 years, won 7 of last 10 games (2nd best form behind OEG), and have 80% of senior players aged 23 and under. would have though that it is fairly decent platform to build in on 2009...

Some awards nominations

Nice Post Arch!

Player of the year; Brown my tip as well.

Young Player of the year; Will agree with the dashing number 3 from the Panthers.

Coach of the year: I am staring to be a copy cat (or monkey) here. Thought Browne has done a huge job. Gone 4 weeks ago. Have seen them a few times and have looked very average. To finish with there W/L ratio has been amazing.

Disappointment of the year: Skevs. Just a disappointing club full stop (Apart from glory years of dominating A when Brian was on board a decade back) Caulfield are just a bunch of kids. Can't play footy, but still just kids.

Tips next year

Caulfield to jump straight back up (Under 19's are very good!)
Camberwell or OMs to drop with Ajax/Ormond/oakleigh - OK!
Hampton to surprise everyone - Wont suprise Jase
St Kevs and Old Carey to play finals - Why not.

Am going to sound like a parrot as well here.
BS i agree with thekid, and handles find yourself a new Boyfriend if matthews snubbed you.

Player of the year; Maclaren
Young Player of the year; Will agree with the dashing number 3 from the Panthers. me too , kid can play

Coach of the year: I will go for Madden who has certenly silenced some doubters
Disappointment of the year: nah, i am back to Caulfield, narrowly ahead of Old Camberwell and Skevs

Tips next year

Bulleen Temp to make the double jump (kids are very good!)
Camberwell or OMs to drop with Ajax/Ormond/oakleigh - yup
Hampton to surprise everyone - Wont suprise Jase- yeah Jase, this is gogin to give you a boost= you can quote it in your tips next year
St Kevs and Old Carey to play finals - Maybe

Why is that? At least Marcellin have the ability to contain a teams score. Collegians/ Xav's/ STBM vs St Bernards in a shootout would be très ugly.

Fergus might just kick 20.

Bernards beat Marc on their ground by 10 goals... they beat OH a few weeks back by 35 points and had about 45 shots at goal. Would've been 10 gls if we kicked half straight....

I've said it since round 5.... two horse race. OEG (ahead at this stage) and Bernies (dont write us off yet).

As for being competitive in A-Grade... OEG would definately be more than competetive in a-grade... they do have One more game to win to get there....

Agree with FK- bernies list is young and developing. Will be better again next year regardless of what happens in the next few weeks.

My tips for the weekend
1's- Marcellin by 20 points- purely based on the bigger ground and injury cloud of Brown.
2's- SKOB's by the length of the flemington straight, 97 points.

Rounding up a bit there Murphys!;)

Problem is if they go up they won't be playing against Marcellin and OH (maybe one but not both of them) they will be playing against teams that kept them to 3 wins only 12 months ago. Have they improved since they came down? The backline certainly hasn't, they have rarely kept a team under 13 goals. St Kevins defence has only had 4 more points against it and they are 6th.

And we have kicked 65.833333333333 recurring more gls than SKOBS....
Mabye it has to do with playing on a large ground in good condition...have u seen rhegetti lately....? Its a wonder that SKOBs can field half a team each week after training/playing on that.... mabye it has to do with global warming....? I dont know.

As an OEG man, I am sure u are acutely aware that (other than the fact of being there in september) what has happened during the season all fades into insignificance from this weekend onwards.

It also seems as though the OEG BF ban has been lifted.... welcome back boys.

Am I missing something?? I thought the 2nd semi was in 2 weeks time?
Lets see who gets to A grade first before seeing if they will be up to it.

Only been partially lifted, they are quite happy to discuss the other 11 clubs or next year, but as soon as someone mentions the condition of JC's spray on tan and whether it will keep him out of the 2nd semi the Adam Edwards cone of silence is rigourously enforced :)

I find it increasingly difficult to fathom how you can be such an expert on A grade. Personally (and i would like to think i can talk on A Grade historically) both teams would be competitive in the big league if they played there this year. There is no doubt that OEG are a more rounded side than other years (but there are some chinks), and St Bernards are a more talented side than last year (who if we remembered were only % out of the 4 with 4 games to go last year and was relegated with 6 games- this year you needed 4 to be safe). I would have been surprised if both teams wouldnt have pushed the top 4.

As for the next few weeks i cant see the other teams challenging without any catastophes...but then again...

probably worth 1 but the vafa have their ways and everyone knows the rules lik them or not. either way it was a very silly act that was meant to show intimidation but just showed stupidity. would be really regretting it right about now
