Just wondering who's gonna come out of the side from the backline when Hudghton and Maguire are both ready to play in the seniors again. The obvious one is Dawson but the way hes been playing it would be wrong of Ross to take him out the team.

i think as long as our backline eeps playing the way it is right atm hudgton, maguire might not get bak but theres also dempster as a half back flanker but im not sure if he can play this year anyway

If we're using back pocket & HBF to come back in is also Raph, Begley, Dempster, Maxie and Goose which in a way is saying a fair bit about the current players since there is some talent there to come back in and if they can hold them off (you'd expect Max to come right back in when he's right) some decent depth in the back half. However, I wouldn't shake it up since as far as I'm concerned only max would be an auto inclusion at that'd be simply because Dawson is a rookie.

Anybody would be unlucky IMO
Gwilt could make way, then Gilbert can be used further up the ground and basically cover Gwilt's current spot (which seems kind of everywhere)

That or it then means we can shift Fisher's role closer to the midfield, though we seem to like him as backline "general" at the mo

Maybe we don't want Max, Goose and Fisher all in the same lineup anymore?

If Max , Goose and Fisher are better than the alternatives they all should be in the same lineup. The selectors will try to mould the best team. Just because the alternatives are still good does not mean that they should play before the older players.

Who comes out though? Taking rotations out of play for a sec, I see our back 6 as currently being:

Dawson Fisher Blake
Baker Gilbert Gram

Not necessarily in position

If both Max and Maguire are fit, are Blake and Dawson the unlucky two?

Or Gram moves to midfield, or Gilbert moves forward.

There is no reason to change the current backline. The group of players have not yet let down, therefore they have given no reason to force change. I know Max Hudghton is an absolutely gun and one of the best stoppers in the game, but it would be wrong to drop a performing Dawson or Blake who have with great success completed their tasks so far this year. However, I do agree we could make way for Gwilt and bring Gram in the mid. therefore allowing Hudghton to play back.

Sorry to barge in but i was wondering how Sean Dempster was going with hi ACL injury?

I don't think he has had any particular setbacks, but would be surprised to see him play this season. Last I saw / read he was just moving through his re-hab at the typical pace (the non-Malceski pace that is)

I wouldn't mind seeing grammy rollling about the midfield

What's up with Gram's kicking though? Is he trying to kick it too far all the time? Seems he is having some howlers lately, which I think is letting him down

I don't see us dropping Blake, far too versatile. Dawson would probably be unlucky, Gram into midfield

So then who comes out? Gwilt? Eddy? McQualter? Someone else?

Gwilt and Zac have done some jobs, and are great value as back up players, but I don't think they are in our best 22.

I wouldn't want to see Blake dropped either
Who do you think would be the other unlucky bloke then? I'd be leaning towards Gwilt, though I think he had a good game on Friday night

How did Maguire go on the weekend go anyway, does anybody know?

I didn't see any real problem with his kicking last year, so not sure why he's been looking to change his action this year. It is clearly causing problems which will hopefully get sorted out soon (as he's getting plenty of the ball and is one of the few in the team who can kick 50m+).

So you think he's changed his action?

He's trying to kick the cover off the Sherrin. Look at the pass he hits Rooey with in the 1st quarter......he just pokes it and it's a beautiful 40m kick to advantage.

Gram is number 1 in the AFL for Inside 50's. If only we had someone inside to get the ball.
If we are able to win the majority of contests or even regain possessions easily there is really nothing wrong with bombing the ball forward, its only if we are not winning the contests it all goes terribly wrong. For that reason we have been looking good, even when we turn the ball over to some of the teams we have been playing. But will it work against the Cats I wonder.

It's not much good if that inside 50 is a wobbly shank with the projected flight path of a drunk blowfly

You don't think we have some pretty good contested markers with Rooey and Kosi? It's helpful to them if they have some idea where the ball is going to end up ;)

It's all part of the plan to confuse the opposition. :D
Then Kosi runs through and knocks everyone over,
then Milney scoops it up.

Milney dribbles one through from the outside of his boot even though he's 5m dead in front, and Kosi knocks everyone over again attempting a high five. Lake loses an eye

I see where the plan is heading now :thumbsu:
